We Hired Simar and Save More roofing to put a new roof on our reno in North Vancouver. The roof was…read morecompleted in May 2017. We had a leak almost immediately. We have been trying to contact Simar for over two months and he refuses to answer or return our calls. Since then we have had an envelope inspector do a report on the roof. He found that the workmanship was very poor, and that standard roofing practices had not been followed, causing major issues with the roof. We have a very long list of all the mistakes that were made. We have had several reputable roofing companies look at the roof, and they all believe that it should be replaced entirely. This will be more expensive than starting with a new roof as the old roof will need to be removed. This repair has majorly delayed the rest of the renovation. It has also added costs in terms of drywalling, general delay and also extended rental at our current home. Additionally, due to a bank error, Simar was overpaid $3200, which he acknowledged and promised to return to us. It is many months later and he has not returned the money, nor has he contacted us. We have a signed contract offering a five year warranty. Dealing with Simar and Save More Roofing has not only been very stressful, but in the end it will have cost us additional tens of thousands. We have been nothing but polite and have tried to resolve this peacefully, but there is no response form Simar.

Not only did he complete the work to spec, but he even reached out to the county inspector to make sure we were properly addressing permit-related work that had not been completed or disclosed by prior owner. He'll definitely get my business in the future.

If I could give them a negative 5 star review I would…read more Don't hire him unless you want to lose your money. We paid him $1400, half of his quote to do tile work. Rhys is nearly impossible to get in touch with. He doesn't answer his phone, his VM box is always full so you can 't leave a message. Doesn't respond to text and might email you back eventually. We had to keep scheduling with him to come out and start the removal of tile. Didn't show the first time. Rescheduled, didn't show the second time. Then showed up 2 later with no phone call. Took a hammer to our backsplash to remove the tiles and left the sheetrock ragged at the counter tops and below the cabinets that I had to clean up in order to put in new sheet rock. Tried to get him to come out to at least do the fireplace tile while we were waiting for the new countertops to be installed. It's then that he informs us he doesn't want to have to rent a tile saw twice to do the work. So now we find out he doesn't even have a tile saw to do this kind of work in the first place. So we say fine, whatever. Counter tops get installed, we try again to schedule him to come out to install the tile. No response. So we reach out again. He gets back to us 2 days later and says he can come out on Thursday. That Thursday was Thanksgiving. So I suggested Friday would be better. No response, didn't show up on Friday. At this point I'm fed up with his lack of response bought a tile saw and did the work myself. Then emailed and informed him his services are no longer needed and I would like to discuss getting our money back from him. . He actually got back to me the next day and said he understood and was willing to give up $700 and keep the other $700 to cover materials he purchased, time and disposal feel. So I told him if he purchased materials then I would like to have them for future tile projects since we paid for them, and asked for an itemized bill for the materials, time and disposal fee. He tells me he never purchased any materials for the job. So now it's $700 for 2 hours of work and a disposal fee???? Even at $100/hr, which is high for that labor rate. So I have repeated asked for an itemized bill and that I thought $700 was high. No response from him. Calling, texting, emailing, no response. We are now at 16 days and nothing. I normally don't hire contractors to do things I can handle myself, but with a new job, new house and several other projects going on, we hired him to save me some time. Now I not only had to take up my time to do the work we hired him to do, but I have to waste my time trying to schedule and just get in touch with him. If anyone knows a good lawyer that can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. At this point its the principle. Contractors already have a bad name. This guy isn't helping with that. I have all of the records of phone calls and emails we have received, I would be happy to post the timeline of everything and still might just so everyone can see what kind of business this guy is running.

I went to A1 because they were an established builder in the area. When I first contacted them I…read moretold them what I wanted for a bathroom remodel and that my budget was around $50,000 for what I wanted. I was told $1000 would get me a place in line as they were rather busy and it would be applied to my job. The next step was talk to the designer when my turn came up. Again, I told the designer what I wanted and my budget. He listened and a few days later came back with a plan. His total for the remodel was over $72,000. Needless to say, I told him that it was over budget and wasn't going to work. So he redid the plans leaving off all the high dollar granite, etc., that no one had asked for in the first place. The second estimate was $60,000. I told them that wasn't going to work either and paid them over $1500 for the work they had done supposedly for design. I thought we were done until they called me today, a year later, informing me that I had an outstanding bill of $1700. I would definitely classify this place as a ripoff. I guess I can chalk this up as an expensive lesson well learned. I have paid over $3000 for absolutely nothing. I would suggest going to a more reputable builder if you want something remodeled.
