Donna and I took possession of our 27-year-old home knowing it had been vacant for 2 years and needed some major upgrades. We did our research and one contractor we spoke with recommended My House Design (MHD). We had heard of MHD as they had an exceptional reputation for their quality of work. We made contact with them and met with their team led by Graeme. Their team was very professional and experts in what we wanted to accomplish. They soon developed a timely precise design and plan, within our budget. The sub trades were so professional, thoughtful and experts in their field. Steve, the project manager, was very accommodating and ensured the work was done to the highest standard. Further, MHD was great at communicating with us in relation to our budget progression, so we always knew where we stood. We highly recommend MHD and would not hesitate to use them again. We are pleased to provide a letter of reference for the My House team, as we highly recommend them. My wife and I just completed a major repair renovation of the downstairs of our townhouse, which was just originally built in the early 90s. Graeme Huguet leads this company. The professionalism of My House was well known to us prior to the commencement of our project as we were lucky enough to witness their work on renovations they performed on a house belonging to our close friends. Our friends had hired My House to conduct various renovations, both inside and outside, on three occasions over the past 20 years. The work completed was outstanding and transformed their home. In fact, the original renovations still stand out for their quality. Regarding our townhouse, we purchased it two years ago with knowledge that we wanted to redo the kitchen and open it up to the main living area to provide more light and to have an open concept. Once we were ready to commence our renovations, we did not think about contacting other firms but went directly to My House. We were not disappointed. The project manager led us thru the various planning stages and thru the cumbersome but necessary process of obtaining a building permit thru the City. All was explained in advance and was completed within time and within budget. There were no surprises. Our construction manager, Bruno, was fantastic and was quick to see an opportunity to install a beam that would open up our living area more than we thought possible. Bruno and his team were experienced, knowledgeable and professional throughout the project. He supervised the various trades that performed work and ensured any concerns were addressed quickly. We are extremely happy with the results of the renovation project. read more

We recently had the pleasure of working with My House Design/Build Team on a full-scale main floor renovation of our longtime family home, and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. From start to finish, the MHDB Team displayed a genuine commitment to bringing our vision to life. They took the time to understand not only our needs but also our style preferences and long-term goals for our home. Our main goal and reason for the renovation was to stay in our house and "age in place". The building crew were courteous, punctual, and maintained a tidy workspace, which was very much appreciated by us and our neighbours. Many of the team members took pride in their work, and it showed in their attention to detail, especially with the finishing touches. They provided a detailed estimate, and there were minimal hidden fees and very few unexpected expenses. Overall, my experience with MHDB Team was very good. They really do it all! From start to finish. Their expertise, commitment to quality, and dedication to customer satisfaction made the renovation process relatively smooth and enjoyable. We are pleased to provide a reference letter for the My House Design Build Team. We chose this company because they provided a team that included architecture, design and construction. As a busy couple with teenagers, we needed a team approach to ensure our house was renovated beautifully by a company that provided complete project management. We were very impressed with the staff at My House Design Build Team. They were all very professional and listened to our ideas for the house. The addition that was constructed for our home does not look like an addition at all. Ignatio did a wonderful job incorporating the great room to our kitchen and eating area. Morgan, the designer, spent time with us choosing colours, tiles, flooring, lighting, and even appliances. She had a knack for taking our design themes and ideas and then bringing them together in a very cohesive and appealing style. Karl, the construction manager in the latter half of the job worked very hard to manage the project to meet our deadline to be in the house before school started. There were some drawbacks as the five month planned renovation turned into 13 months. Some of it was due to the pandemic and some of it was due to the first contractor on the job not having time to focus solely on our project. Graeme Huguet, owner of My House Design Build Team, stepped in proactively and changed construction managers. When Karl became the new construction manager, the project moved forward in an expedited manner that did not sacrifice any of the quality or workmanship. We moved back into our home and are very pleased with the renovation. The house is 42 years old and it was rejuvenated. It is a new house! The kitchen is wonderful to cook in and we have enjoyed having guests over. The heat pump and insulation has made being in the house very comfortable. Overall, we are very pleased with the result and our friends and family respond with high compliments when they see it. read more

Bringing Our Vision to Reality After being in our home for 32 years with relatively few updates it was definitely time for a major change. Selecting My House Design/Build/Team to take us through our home redesign journey was an easy choice because of how they presented themselves on their website, all of their positive reviews, their great reputation and professionalism, and their many accolades. Doing a major renovation can be quite daunting, and even more so with the added challenges of a pandemic, but from our initial consultation, where everything was well presented and explained to us, we felt confident and at ease putting our complete trust in the My House Design/Build/Team. We were expertly guided through the entire process from building our wish list, coming up with a manageable budget and staying within that budget, design, construction, all the way through to completion. We did not have to worry about any aspects of our entire renovation as My House took care of absolutely everything; organizing permits, design meetings, hazmat testing, trades and contractors, etc. My House was completely transparent at all times, with no hidden surprises, throughout our entire project. We bought our home brand new 32 years ago and now, 32 years later, our home feels brand new once again! Thank you so much to our wonderful My House Team, Graeme, Kelly, Cameron, Corley, Piers, Kristen, Sarah, as well as all of the trades and contractors involved (sorry if we have missed anyone!) for helping us create a beautiful space and bringing our vision to reality! The My House team did an amazing job to improve our home! We absolutely love the end result - it's beautiful, comfortable and easy to maintain. As our house was built in the early 90s, all signs of ageing were becoming more obvious. The house felt dark and cramped. Now it feels bright, spacious and refreshed. Special thanks to Morgan for her design recommendations. We love the mixture of modern yet timeless look. We've been back in the house for about 9 months now and thoroughly enjoying the house. The renovation gave us what we wanted, down to the details. Renovating both the main floor and the upstairs is a big job, so we were nervous. We are glad we ended up going with the My House team. The team is professional, knowledgeable, manages all aspects of the project and guides us through every step of the way, leaving us with no headaches. We are visual people, hence we particularly appreciate the drawings and video. Construction lasted about 7 months and there were a couple of surprises once the wall was opened up but the MyHouse team had solutions so we were all good. The quality of work / the end result speaks for itself. Thanks again My House team! Derella & Jason read more

In 2016, I contracted MyHouse Design Build to renovate my downtown Vancouver condo from floor-to-ceiling. The results are spectacular! I am thrilled beyond words and can't thank Graeme Huguet and the entire MyHouse team enough for their uncompromising integrity and brilliantly executed design and construction. Like mighty renovation superheroes, they transformed my ugly duckling, cookie-cutter, 1980s-era strata lot into an ultra-modern, luxury residence worthy of Architectural Digest and Dwell magazines. Without exception, everyone on the reno crew were five-star professionals -- from the project manager (Wayne) to the interior designer (Helen) to the general contractor (Fred) to all the trades (electrical, plumbing, tiling, painting, flooring, fireplace, drywall, taping). All were extraordinarily skilled, experienced, trustworthy, knowledgeable, congenial and cooperative. Everyone took great pride in their work. All delivered meticulous workmanship -- on time and on budget. Working together, they successfully completed a reno that exceeded my highest expectations and turned out better than I ever hoped. Don't just take my word for it. In November, 2016 the project was officially recognized by the Canadian Home Builder's Association of British Columbia (CHBA BC) as a top-five finalist for a 2017 Georgie Award® -- a premier housing prize program that highlights excellence in BC home building and renovation. This acclaim alone speaks (shouts!) for itself. Looking forward, I plan to renovate additional properties within the next year or so and MyHouse will definitely be my go-to contractors. Ultimately, MyHouse Design Build makes dreams come true -- literally. They created a timeless space of elegance, beauty and simplicity that calms my mind, ignites my spirit, invigorates my work and energizes my play. At the end of our first meeting, Graeme Huguet offered the advice of "going with people you can trust". Our ensuite was redesigned and constructed to include a large glass enclosed shower with bench and rain shower, large soaker tub, and heated floor. Our master bedroom included a dressing room with vanity and enclosed cabinetry in addition to a fireplace at the foot of the bed (TV above), sand-on-sight oak floors throughout and French doors to a future planned outside deck overlooking the backyard. The choices of paint and tile colours, stone and cabinet design were all expertly suggested by Linda Jones. Linda soon became our confidant due to her vision and professionalism. It remains one of our favourite parts of the home. In 2012, we once again contacted Graeme and his Team; this time to focus on the exterior envelope of the home. At 23 years in, our house had a tired roof, weather stained vinyl siding and (well) 23 year old windows. It is during this phase of remodel that we became familiar with Bruno Hoglund; Project Manager and absolute master at virtually every aspect of construction and design. Bruno's accessibility, open ears and open mind, along with his intuitiveness for what the client wants (both husband and wife) are extremely appreciated. Bruno exemplified the trust that Graeme spoke of at our first meeting. Many times we found ourselves trusting Bruno's suggestions for construction and/or design when faced with a decision - we were never disappointed. With the help of Linda, Bruno led his team through a phase which included a new roof with redesigned front gables, soffit, fascia, hardy board siding, stonework and windows. We must also call out the attention to detail that Norm provided as he installed the siding and Jason when he installed the doors and windows. We continue to have passersby compliment us on our beautiful home. The project also included a backyard composite deck, built-in barbeque and pergola with an adjoining shed which matches the house. An upper deck was also constructed off the master bedroom with an ulterior purpose of sheltering the barbeque and black granite countertop below. With our existing landscaping incorporated, this space is truly an outdoor oasis for us. In 2015, we contacted Graeme and asked once more for the assistance of Bruno and Linda. This time, we were ready to transform our kitchen and family room into a Great Room running along the back of the home. The overall project included raising floors, moving walls, hiding beams and then redesigning the entire space. Bruno "found" space underneath our stairs to allow for the addition of a beverage centre. We now have a six-burner gas cook top at one end of the space and a floor to ceiling cast concrete sculptured fireplace at the opposite end. The kitchen area includes white flat-paneled cabinetry with dark grey quartz countertops and a burgundy painted glass backsplash. A nine foot island is also topped with a light marbled quartz counter with espresso shaker-style cabinetry. A 60" TV was mounted in the sitting area with the fireplace; in-ceiling speakers were installed and all other media components hidden controlled via Control-4 integration. The powder room was gutted and redesigned. The laundry room was also repurposed to include a countertop and built-in gated dog crate below, mud room sink and drop zone. We also took the opportunity to upgrade the furnace and introduced hot water on-demand. Save for the front living room, this project included all of the lower floor of the home. For the flooring, we chose a long wide plank tile guised as hardwood. Visitors continually compliment us on the hardwood floors - a testament to Linda for selecting and Oleg (the Tile Artist) for his installation prowess. Although we had already met Jeff (The Finishing Guy), it was in this phase that he really showed his talents in detail. And our dog Chili became quite enamored with Jeff. This year, we decided to complete the home by renovating the main upstairs bathroom, trimming out both bedrooms (including a redesigned closet), new stair railing and metal spindles, and new carpeting. The front living room received a new vaulted ceiling with lights and speakers and a feature wall clad in repurposed barn wood. Jeff once again performed much of the work and Chili awaited his arrival daily. Our home has since been named as a Finalist in both the Ovation Awards and the upcoming Georgies. From start to finish, the My House Design / Build Team worked with us to determine our vision and provided guidance along the way. There was always an appreciation for cost and attempts made where possible to save us money and finish under budget. On a daily basis, work was planned with an appreciation of our personal schedule. We were never concerned about the security of our home during any of the work; nor about the outcome of the craftsmanship. We were, after all, in the hands of people we trusted. read more

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for My House Design / Build Ltd. which has completed a wonderful renovation of my house. The project involves a complete renovation of the 24-year old house and an addition of floor area to bring the total living space to about 6,000 sf. The project started with a meeting with Mr. Graeme Huguet who inspired confidence in us with the company's track record and his in-depth knowledge on home renovation. He shared with us many innovative ideas which we have never thought of to improve our house. The first big challenge of obtaining approval from the City for floor area addition was handled extremely well by Graeme and his staff. Thorough understanding of City By-laws, detailed preparation of documents, and impressive presentation at the hearing earned us the approval to proceed with the construction of our dream home. The construction phase lasted for ten months and I am impressed with their efficiency. Though there were hiccups during the process, the construction team always came up with solutions and kept us well informed of everything. The kind of dedication to quality by the crew was second to none. They are all willing to take extra steps to ensure that all works are done to excel normal standards. When I moved back after completion, I was commended by my neighbors for hiring a team that was always courteous and mindful of reducing disturbance to the minimum. The end result is a beautiful and quality home that makes us proud to show it to everyone. It is so functional that all members in my family of three generations find their particular needs fully satisfied. The new home also contributes to the environment by having its EnerGuide rating improved from a dissatisfactory level of 56 in the old house to an excellent 84! Excellence in workmanship is only part of the success story. Creative interior and exterior design is the other integral component. The exterior of the house was given a face uplifting with new materials and color to significantly increase curb appeal. The internal layouts were heavily re-designed to open up space and enhance our view to the outdoor. Before we contacted My House, we would never have imagined that our house could be transformed into what we have now. This experience with My House leaves me with no hesitation to recommend them for any renovation and new home project. The company has the expertise, the experience, and most importantly, a team of dedicated staff who are friendly, skillful, and passionate in achieving the best for clients. Graeme is hands-on, responsive, and genuine in guarding clients' interests. His leadership assures complete ease of mind. read more

I am pleased to provide a letter of recommendation for the My House team following the completion of a major rebuild on our home which was originally built in early 1961. For a project of this scope and scale, we interviewed a number of firms we felt would be able to provide quality design and build for the entire project . Right from the initial planning meetings, Graeme and his team impressed us with their skills in translating our many desires into concrete design ideas, with their attention to detail and knowledge of local bylaws, and with their financial tracking and budgeting systems. We selected the My House team feeling fully confident that our project would be handled well and we would be pleased with both the results and the process. I can honestly say we have never regretted the choice. Graeme and his team not only provided a custom, well-built home with all the features we wanted, but they provided what Graeme had promised up-front - that "Wow" factor. After two years in the house, we still look around and can't quite believe what we have. Our construction phase lasted 10 months, and involved the complete rebuild of the property. We did make a scope change just after beginning but only after consultation and with costs fully explained. We were confident the additional costs would provide superior results, and were happy that the team took the time to bring the scope change suggestion forward and give us the choice to keep to the original scope or to increase scope. The many trades who worked on our property during this phase were all skilled and the quality of the result is a testament to that. While there were some inevitable project hiccups, Graeme's team always dealt with any issues promptly, professionally and to our satisfaction. Kudo's here to our Construction Manager, Karl Penner. As someone who always came up with a way to get the job done in the best way possible, Karl was outstanding. He had a relentless focus on detail and quality, and with him on the job we always felt confident that he would deal in our best interest when working with sub trades or other contractors. Our final result is simply stunning. The open concept design and the redesigned layout, coupled with the new integrated covered outdoor living space makes the space ideal for family gatherings and entertaining. The updated finishes and colours, plus all the new features we ever wanted in a dream home make us proud to show the house off. The use of natural light is amazing and the vaulting in the great room pulls the whole space together. Our design provided all the items we knew we wanted - open concept, great room, gourmet kitchen, covered deck, walk in master closet, deluxe ensuite , but My House also came up with innovative touches that provide the Wow - two way fireplaces to the deck and in the ensuite bath, and a glass vaulted roof in the nook. Kudo's here to our design team of Morgan Weldrick and Ignacio Lara Faure - it is no surprise to us that this project won both an Ovation award and a Georgie award! While our design and build exceeded our expectations, I think it also important to call out the team for their follow-up care after the project completes. While our project has only had a couple of minor items needing attention, any item raised has been dealt with promptly, courteously, and professionally. Our experiences with Graeme and his team during this entire journey of planning, design, build and post-project have been very positive. He and his team are skilled, professional and dedicated to the customer. At one of our very early meetings, Graeme indicated that our journey with him would be a partnership - and he has been true to his word. While renovation work can by nature be stressful, the My House team made the journey so much more enjoyable. We are very confident in recommending this firm to anyone contemplating a renovation or build, and we would absolutely hire them again. Rob Aird and Melanie Watt read more
