I originally planned to use my GI Bill for the Dental Hygiene program at SJVC in California. My…read moreexperience with SJVC was wonderful from the beginning. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and made the application process clear and easy to understand and I was excited to start the program. Unfortunately due to my husband's military obligations, I realized I would have been about halfway through the program when we would need to relocate and he would begin a deployment so I reached out to SJVC to explain my situation and they were incredibly helpful. They told me about their sister school Carrington in my home state and explained that it might be a better option because I already had a strong support system there, especially with having small children. They made it clear that I was still welcome to continue with SJVC but provided me with information about Carrington so I could decide which option worked best for my family and timeline. Because of that positive experience with SJVC, I felt really confident exploring Carrington. After attending the information session I decided to take the leap and switch my focus to Carrington. In the beginning, everything felt promising and my communication with Donna was great, and I was able to submit my recommendation letters, fingerprint card, CPR certification, vaccine records, and other required documents. I don't think the Wonderlic exam I had taken in California transferred, so I retook it as requested. At that point, I was told that I was a strong candidate, that my score was good, and that everything looked promising. I was excited and felt that I was on the right path. Unfortunately, the communication changed shortly afterward. A couple of days before the application deadline, I was asked to retake the test again and after that I stopped receiving communication. I called multiple times, left voicemails, and sent emails but received no response. After waiting and trying again, I eventually received a voicemail shortly before the start date informing me that I had not been selected and should try again for the next start date. The voicemail felt off as if she didn't remember who I was despite previous conversations or maybe my application just fell through the cracks. I was still determined to pursue the program and moved to Arizona to apply again. When I asked for feedback about how I could become a stronger candidate, I did not receive any guidance. I called multiple times, left voicemails, sent text messages asking what I needed to improve, and emailed questions regarding getting a higher score on the Wonderlic, but again received no response. Donna eventually contacted me about a week before the next application deadline asking me to resubmit my letter of intent, but once again, communication stopped afterward. At this point, I realized that switching my focus from SJVC to Carrington may not have been the right decision for me. I understand that applying to a competitive program can be stressful and that admissions staff may have many applicants to manage. Still I am very disappointed by the lack of communication and guidance throughout the process, especially after having such a positive experience with SJVC. Because the two schools are connected, I honestly expected a similar level of professionalism and support. The final communication was even more disappointing because applicants were notified that they had not been selected through a mass email in which all recipients could see one another's email addresses. Applicants began responding to the email, meaning we could see each other's responses as well. Receiving a rejection in what is essentially a mass text felt very impersonal and, in my opinion unprofessional. I understand that not every applicant can be accepted, and I completely respect how competitive it is. My disappointment is not being denied but the lack of communication, feedback, and guidance throughout the process. I repeatedly asked what I could do to improve my application and was unable to get an answer. Ultimately I'll take this experience as a sign that Carrington may simply not be the right school for me. I am disappointed because I had such a positive experience with SJVC and genuinely expected a similar experience with its sister school. I have loved working in the dental field since leaving the military, and I am determined to continue pursuing a career in dental hygiene. I apologize for such a long review but I sincerely hope that other applicants have a more positive experience with the admissions process, and I wish everyone applying the best of luck.

When it comes to the Jewish students at ASU, Hillel is one of a very few places that they go to for support whether it be a talented group of staff, a building that feels like home, and plenty of intentional programming and activities that take place both within the building and across the four ASU campuses. As an ASU staff member and a Hillel board member, I have found myself staying in touch with Hillel staff members and student leaders on a regular basis and making it over to the Hillel Jewish Student Center whenever I get a chance. This year, being based at the West Valley Campus has made it more challenging to do so, but when I plan the drive out accordingly, I can make it to special events on the Tempe Campus or at the Hillel Jewish Student Center. After having worked at three universities each with a Hillel center, I have been impressed with the work put in by the staff, volunteers, and student leaders to create such a meaningful experience for the students and community members who find themselves at Hillel. Hillel offers programming to celebrate the many Jewish holidays throughout the year including weekly Shabbat services and even the High Holidays when classes are in session. Their website (https://www.hillelasu.org) highlights many of these events in a calendar. They also have communities within the community at Hillel including groups for students involved with Greek Life, engineering, business, journalism, the Downtown Campus, the Polytechnic campus, and those interested in social justice. There are also Birthright Israel trips sponsored by Hillel bringing students on 10-day trips to Israel. For many of the programs and events, even non-Jewish students are welcome to join. They also offer Kosher food onsite, scholarships, employment and internships, travel opportunities, and an opportunity for families to connect. In fact, there are events during Move-In, Family Weekend, Jewish holidays including the High Holidays, and other times throughout the year when families are welcome to join their students (though they technically are never turned away). There are also opportunities for the community and alumni to make donations to support such programming. From the annual fundraiser L'dor V'dor to the new capital campaign to get a new building built, there are many ways to contribute. I certainly recommend anyone knowing a current or future ASU student who has Jewish ties to continue reaching out to the ASU Hillel to connect with them.

She's a proud…read morealum who still supports the school, so she was definitely on a mission to convince my teenage daughter that ASU should be on her college list. Unfortunately, it was over 100° that day, so she had a pretty tough sales pitch! She started by showing us her old dorm, which happened to be very close to the school where she was studying. That was actually really nostalgic for me because I still remember sending snail mail to her dorm back in the early 2000s. It was fun to see where she had lived all those years ago. One of the things I really liked about the campus was all the little spaces tucked away throughout it. There were secret courtyards where students could sit outside and study, tons of seating, volleyball courts, and plenty of areas that seemed designed to encourage students to actually spend time together and build a community. I was also impressed by how secure everything felt. Most of the buildings were locked, with the library and the Memorial Union being among the places we could actually go inside. The library was huge, quiet, and had tons of breakout rooms, making it look like a really comfortable place to study whether you wanted to work alone or with a group. The Memorial Union was another highlight. Instead of feeling like a traditional college cafeteria, it had all kinds of chain restaurants and food options. There was even a barbershop on campus, which I thought was a great convenience for students who might not have a car or simply don't want to leave campus for basic services. Transportation also seems to be a big part of campus life. We saw everything from bikes and skateboards to scooters, and there were plenty of places to lock them up. Between the different transportation options, walkability, and security measures, it seemed like students could get around without needing a car. And the buildings themselves are really unique. The "Wedding Cake" building definitely caught my attention, and I was especially excited to see the building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright because I'm a fan of his work. There's a lot of interesting architecture throughout the campus, so even just walking around felt like sightseeing. Even though it was brutally hot, I liked that there were places where you could duck inside and get some air conditioning. The campus also seemed very walkable, which I imagine would make a big difference during normal Arizona weather--not necessarily during our 100°+ tour day! We didn't really get to experience the academic side of ASU, so I can't speak much to the actual education or specific programs. This was more of a general campus tour where we got to see the larger spaces, student areas, transportation options, and overall layout. From what I saw, ASU looks like a fun place for college students to create their own community while getting an education. Our friend may not have completely convinced my daughter--especially while she was melting in the Arizona heat--but it was definitely an interesting campus to explore! Forks up!

You will likely lose both your money and your energy here. Many of the instructors are RNs but lack the proper qualifications to teach effectively, and they provide little to no useful instruction. It's hard to understand how the nursing board even grants them credentials. The administration seems to care more about collecting tuition than ensuring students actually learn. If your goal is to complete a nursing program smoothly and become a competent, proficient nurse, I recommend choosing a different school.
