For 3 years, we have used this practice & my husband & I recommended them to everyone. After our last experience, never again. We had to make to the decision to put our dog, Leo to sleep & scheduled his appointment. Due to his size (185 lbs) & him being unable to use his back legs, we needed assistance bringing him in to the exam room. We had two vet techs come to our car to help carry him in & both were great. They placed us in a small room with a cold, concrete floor, but we had brought a dog bed & blankets for him to lay on. After sitting in the room for 20 min past our appointment time, a woman came in & with not an ounce of compassion asked us what kind of cremation we wanted & if we wanted to pay now or after his appointment. Her abruptness was shocking to both of us & my husband told her we would pay after his appointment. Due to the reason of our visit & her rudeness, I was very upset & asked if the vet would be coming in soon. She said she will be in shortly to which I thanked her & said "i'm sorry, this is just torture for us". She left without saying a word. About 10 min later, she came back in to inform us the tech would be coming in to start his IV & we would have to step out of the room. My husband asked why & informed her we are both in the medical field & assured her the site of blood doesn't bother us plus we wanted to be with him as reassurance for him. She said it was up to the tech because he may not be comfortable with us watching & left again. My husband & I couldn't figure out why we would have to leave & thought perhaps the tech was new & uncomfortable starting his IV with us watching. Shortly after this, the same two techs who came to help carry him into the clinic came to start his IV. I asked the male if he had a lot of experience with IVs & he was immediately hostile & informed me he was certified & why would I ask this. I told him we were just curious because of what the previous woman had said & tried to assure him we weren't trying to doubt him. He said he wanted to start the IV in one of his front paws, but due to the fact he was laying on them & because both back legs were exposed (not to mention he couldn't really feel them) I asked if it would be easier for him to try one of his back legs. He agreed & proceeded with starting it without saying anything else on the subject. While he was doing it, I attempted to make conversation about anything to try to sooth whatever I had done to offend him by talking about everything from Leo's past leg surgeries to the new clinic. Despite the IV initially working, when he tried to flush the catheter, it appeared to have blown so he had to place a new one. For this attempt, he decided to use one of his front legs. He didn't even look for the vein & dug around searching for one. After realizing it wasn't going to work, he stood up, said he needed more supplies, told the other tech to come with him & left. 5 min later, the vet, Dr. McCrone came in & her first words to my husband & I were "You are upsetting my staff". We were confused & asked if she was in the correct room because we honestly had no idea what she was talking about. Apparently, the first woman who was more concerned with payment told the staff I said they were torturing our dog & saying they didn't know what they were doing. NOT A SINGLE WORD OF THIS IS TRUE. After talking to the vet, we opted to do a "field injection" (?) which amounted to him receiving an injection in his muscle to sedate him & using a butterfly catheter to administer the medication to put him to sleep. After it was over, Dr. McCrone was making a paw print for us & all I could focus on was how we were there to say goodbye & instead were accused of upsetting her staff. She mentioned the IV insertion in the back paw not being preferred because it's further from his heart. Why didn't the tech explain this? When we mentioned the woman asking about payment, she agreed & said she can be rude. We should have received an apology from everyone we had contact with, but instead not one word was said. read more
