Alex was so knowledge about what was CA legal for the catalytic converters on my van. I spent 2.5 hrs at some other smog check place and the guy failed it because he said they were tampered. I don't recall every changing those catalytic converters and if I did, it would have been more than 10 years. So how did it pass through all these smog check before. The mechanic just didn't know or didn't even mention about what part numbers were legal or not for those converters. So I went to Alex and he did say that those converters were CA legal. He did some pre-checks to ensure that I'm not going to the same ordeal with the previous clueless mechanic. Alex was so helpful and knowledgeable. Valley Smog Test is a "Smog Test only" Center where you can both have your car checked and registered (including getting the tags right away) while passing time in their waiting room area. *Make sure to print out a coupon from their website (saved $20). +Reasonable prices. +Free WiFi +Friendly Staff. -Additional $20 charge for the option to have your car registered in-house. Then again, at least they have that option! This is a relatively small location (I think it's run by perhaps 2-3 people) that really has a friendly atmosphere and pleasant waiting room area. They were quick (my car was checked in under 15 Min) and I was also able to register my car and get my tags all under the same roof. Renewal registration required a smog certificate from a Star rated station. I called and was given an estimate and a link for a $20 discount coupon. I live relatively close by so went there with no one in front of me. They took my SV in right away, after some 15 minutes or so, I received my Pass Smog Cert and was on my way. I believe this station is honest and with the coupon, pricing was competitive. The shop was clean and the wait not long at all. In the future, if one of my vehicles requires a Star Cert, this it the shop I will go to and recommend it for others as well. read more

This place was as good as any and better than most smog shops. Personally I don't expect a lot when I go to auto service/repair type shops. In a bigger facility that employs a receptionist type person at the front desk I would hope for a great customer service type experience. In this case there was only one person working so he did everything. His customer service was fine. He was respectful and helpful. I had a unique situation with some exhaust repairs and he listened and help me make sure my vehicle was OK. In a small shop like this competency is more important that a cheerful demeanor. As others noted the waiting room is better that most. Again, i don't expect a lot here as a fancy waiting room with complimentary refreshments serves to drive up prices. It was clean, they had cold water and a place to sit so I was fine. I didn't look for the free wi-fi but did see the TV, games, books, etc. that others have mentioned. My smog check was done in about 15 minutes. There was no one there or waiting when I went on a Monday afternoon. You can easily get this done on a lunch break. With 2000 and newer vehicles they don't even put them on the dyno or measure emissions any more. Just a visual inspection and computer check. As a tip for finding a smog check station in general, ASK QUESTIONS!! Their job is to check your vehicle, not interview you about the 50 possible reasons you may not pass. If you have had any repairs or any problems with you vehicle in the past few weeks or months let them know and ask if it will impact your inspection. Key items are if the check engine light has been on, even if it went off or you just had it clear from a repair. A recent code can still fail you. Also, if you have had the battery replaced or disconnected in the past few days/weeks. This can reset counters that will cause you to fail. Smoke out of the tail pipe. If you have other items ask them about them. Pass or don't pay is not an automatic, so if they don't advertise it, don't be surprised if you have to pay for a failed test. One final tip. If you go here, check their website for coupons. I did and got out the door for $49.00. read more

Just gave this place a call to ask a question and the man who answered had no phone etiquette at all. He was rude and sounded annoyed that I called. Which I am sure he probably was. But you've got to realize that you are working customer service. Being friendly is part of the job even when you're having a bad day. Try to get my car smog by this place for two weeks now and every time i go or call its a 2 hr wait . they dont make appointments and all they say is your out of luck.. I was lucky enough to walk in with no one else waiting. The entire process took about 20-25 minutes. The staff is very friendly an they even offer free coffee and tea. It's hard to get overly excited about a Smog test, but I did. Decided to go here based on what fellow Yelpers said. I was able to get it all done during my lunch break. I walked in with no one else being serviced. The tester came right in, got my keys, and started immediately. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Friendly staff, no hassle service! First location I had tried willingly, however i was not certain how this location fared against the competition in the area. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff. It was half an hour before closing time and asked if they were willing to smog my car even though it was close to closing time. Surprised to say they were glad to do so! The staff were friendly, which sometimes you don't get. Upon initiating smog check paper filing, I was asked some quick questions regarding information that was needed. The whole process took about 30 minutes due to my car being a little older, fortunately everything went without a hitch. In the mean time I had sat in the air conditioned lobby with some chilled water that they had available from a water cooler at no cost. The only gripe i have is at the time they did not inform me about the free wi-fi or how to access it. Would go again and recommend this location! read more
