I took my 1992 Thunderbird for a smog test, the technician walked back and forth around the engine compartment several times looking for something he apparently couldn't find since he didn't touch anything. He then told me the car failed the test, charged me $58.00, and I need to check the EGR system that is "hard to get to because it is buried in the fender area." (some of the cars specific information entered into the computer was not correct either). The EGR system is actually located on the top rear of the engine, not the "fender area." I took the car to a different shop in Murrieta where the car passed with no problems. They did a pre-test, test, and received a certificate for the same price as Valley Smog charged me just for failing a test. I would not recommend Valley Smog. read more

Had minor issue with pricing and owner called me promptly to discuss and then took care of my concern, which is great customer service. Most importantly, they did a great job smogging the vehicle and they are also convienently located directly across the street from the DMV (which helps if you are registering the vehicle right afterward). Not a good experience. This guy went nuts because he failed my car and I got it to pass at the station across the street at the DMV. The car had been sitting and so it didn't pass. I took it across the street and it passed no problem. I asked him for a refund and he has since been a nutcase. He has threatened to report me and my car to the BAR. He is trying to put a question mark over my head and scare me from writing a review. The idea of my car being taken away is supposed to stop me. Ummmmm... Nope. I actually did delete my review but I found another message from him and so I'm posting it again. This is my experience. I'm sure it's a rare one but this is my experience. For many years i have used Valley Smog without a problem. This is my latest experience. 98 dodge caravan went to them in September and failed. Replaced the cat and retested... passed with flying colors. now on a return because of van being sold its being tested again emissions passed no problem, but it failed because they could not read the numbers on the cat. Took it back to shop that put the cat on and verified the numbers could be read. it was hard but they were there. Had the shop turn the cat to make them more visible. went back to Valley Smog and told them my findings, and they want to charge me again for something they should have done right the first time. I explained to them that the last time they tested it that they could read the numbers but this time they couldn't??? Didn't make sense to me. upon leaving (no test done) the owner comes out and trys to explain it away stating the cat could have been changed again and that it was my fault. First off... why would i want to spend another $300 changing a cat that had just been changed 3000 miles ago. Second... Why could they read it the first time but not now? (did they not do there job last time?) If they would have done their research like i asked them to do, they would have seen everything checked out, but they didn't and have now lost a customer. With all the smog shops in town (most have lower prices) i would think you would want to keep customers who are loyal. read more

I DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. BETTER OFF GOING ELSEWHERE I brought my vehicle into have smog test done. per the tech who was doing the test stated to me that i have the wrong catalytic converters installed so he failed my vehicle and charged me the fee .Then it was going to be an additional $40-50 for the retest. After doing my own homework and having to waste my time away from work and lose money, I confronting the muffler shop who installed them ( Advanced Muffler in hemet ) , who also double checked to make sure they were the correct ones ( and yes all 3 are correct ). the service tech at Valley Smog had to be educated as to how to do his job, and what info to look for and use before telling customers they have the wrong parts installed. I found all info needed on the ca.gov website about the converters and the executive order that stated the correct parts were installed. This tech was the rudest person i have had to deal with in a long time. I hope his boss lectures him about calling customers rude to there face when they are the one who needs to learn how to do there job Unfortunatly I have to wait to speak to the owner in about 1-2 weeks when he gets back. after a week or so i goit a call from the owner who is not concerned about this. the most frustrating thing about this according to the owner the worker that failed my van for having Miller cats ( x 3 ) installed ( after market and better than original ) stated they are for a toyota. after a couple of hours and research the MILLER cats installed are correc WHEN IN FACT IT CAN BE USED ON ALOT OF DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS ACCORDING TO THE CA.GOV WEB SITE\ and per the co. i used to have them installed. the most disturbing part about this Whole ordeal is that the owner tells me his tech has been working there 14 years. While my experience at this place was over all fine, the out come was not. All the employees it had contact with were pleasant and courteous, the results were not and left a bad taste in my mouth. I took my 92 Honda Civic in with all expectations that it would fail. It's over 20 years old after all. The place was empty and service was fast. Now this poor car as a slight idling problem, she idles at 1000rpm instead if the normal 750rpm. When the lady at the front desk told me the car failed, I assumed it was due to being an old car with a lot of use. Turns out, the tech couldn't get a reading on the timing due to high RPMs. Fair enough. So I took my car to my local mechanic and asked him to look at the results. Before even looking at the paper, he asked "Your took it to the place across from the DMV didn't you?" He said the car was putting out less emissions than some newer cars, and said there is no reason the timing couldn't be read. He gave me the name of another test facility. After getting the car to the other test station, they hooked it up, got a timing read and passed my car. I was informed that this wasn't the first time they had done a second "opinion" on a car that had just come from this test station. I don't know if it's shady business or incompetent techs, but I won't be bringing my car back here and anyone I know won't be going there either. read more

I cruised right into this place due to the proximity to the DMV and it looked nice. I brought my new truck in to get it smogged right before getting it registered. hoping to get these two errands done in a timely manner on my only day off. I drop my keys off, being told it would be $66 and a 40 minute wait. I know there is nothing at all wrong with my vehicle and was very confident in coming back to a problem free "Pass." As soon as I return I am welcomed by a woman that informs me I FAILED. I was really confused and asked why? She told me my air intake was not carb legal or something along those lines. Now, first of all let me explain my truck. I have a very nice 2003 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 with a total of 9 inches of lift. It's a beast. The intake in question is a K&N Cold Air Intake, which is 50 state legal, any emissions establishment should know this first hand. When I tried to explain this I was immediately given attitude by this older gentleman and the receptionist that all cold air intakes are illegal without a sticker. I then proceeded to tell them that there IS in fact a sticker near the filter, just where it is supposed to be. They didn't believe me and said they didn't see one. I told the guy to follow me outside to go see. He told me to show the tech, not him (still giving me attitude). I went outside the tech was busy so I told the old man who followed me anyway to grab a step stool or ladder to go check, as this is a lifted truck, one can't simply look down into my engine from the ground unless you are like 7 feet tall. It became immediately clear that the workers just stood on their tippy toes to check for a sticker, didn't see one, and failed me. Even with a nice step stool readily available. Even my wife who is much shorter than me could see it visibly though on her tippy toes. I pointed it out to them, then they began to accuse me of hiding it and not making it visible when it clearly was, just not from your tippy toes, what are they, children?? I have a picture to share with anyone interested. They began to get irritated that they would have to run the test again, as if it was ME that was inconveniencing THEM, when I am the one off the clock on my day off trying to get things done. It was their own laziness, not wanting to step on a stool to check for a sticker on a big lifted truck. I told them to run the test again and that I am not paying for it twice. With the stool now available, they refused to use it and claimed they couldn't see the carb number. I used my iPhone to snap a pic and they used that as their reference to look up on the computer. Then conveniently they ran the truck again and it only took like 3-4 minutes this time. All the way to the end I was getting these insulting comments about how I should let them know where the sticker is next time, and to make it more visible. I even overheard the old man telling another customer he runs a website that gives tips on how to pass emissions. Maybe he should add, "Tell the workers to do what they are supposed to do anyway, just in case they get lazy and don't want to use a stool to check for your sticker then sass you out the door." Please use the place across the street, or any other place, especially if you have a lifted truck. This entire review is %100 factual. I am a very nice guy, the fact that I was treated like scum made me livid, but I did my best to keep my calm. Also, when I hoped back in my truck, there was a random broken plastic piece from my truck sitting on the floor that I did not recognize, I jumped back out to ask about it, when I walked up they all silenced, obviously talking about me as I was leaving, the guy just said " oh, that was already there."I know my truck inside and out, and there are no random busted parts laying on my floor. read more

Went in with check engine light on and didn't think about it not passing. It is an automatic FAIL with the light on. When the technician was questioned why test it when he knew it would fail he said, "you told me to test it." Shady way to make a buck. Approximately two weeks ago I brought my 2003 Hyundai Sonota in for a mandatory smog check. From the beginning, and until the end I was very satisfied. The receptionist was very courteous and prompt. I don't understand how people can complain about their car not passing, you know driving up whether it will pass or fail... It is not rocket science. They do their job and they do it well. I walked away from another smog place because they were discourteous, dirty, and overcrowded. No appointment necessary, and he's open till 4 PM on Saturday. A+ guys!!!!! -When it's time to get my car smogged, I always come to this place. Wait time is usually less than a half an hour, they have a nice little waiting room, and the front staff is extremely nice and friendly. They make you feel appreciated for being their customer. Which is such a great feeling and almost rare anymore, because a lot of businesses I seem to go to lately treat me like I'm an inconvenience! I was standing in the parking area watching the guy begin to test my vehicle when he suddenly turned to me and yelled, "You can't stand out here, go sit in the waiting area!" I wasn't anywhere near the shop bay. I mean he yelled and sounded like he was pissed-off at me. I just said, "wow, I'll take my truck somewhere else." Very unpleasant demeanor this guy had. A case of State controlled business! Operates like a Tijuana used car lot!! I asked, how much for the test. The man said $56.00 out the door! When the fat lady gave me the paper to sign it said $66. I told her the man said $56 she said, OH!!! and corrected the invoice! Then when they were through she presented me with the final bill and again it said $66. Once again I corrected her and she issued me a $10 credit!! My Debit card transaction statement shows the $66 but not the $10 credit!! This place is a scam, When I took my vehicle for smog it failed because I recently done 02sensor, they assumed I tried to reset engine light which was not the case and the heavy set older lady tried to pull my keys away like If she thought she was keeping my vehicle if I did not pay for their b.s. service. My car failed the smog test at another station, so I brought it to Valley Smog for retest and repair. The mechanic, Jonathan, was so knowledgeable and courteous. He accommodated my schedule even to the point of staying past closing so that I could get there. He worked with my car and corrected the engine light problem after the part was installed. So I have been here a month or so ago and had great service. Today they said last car at 440...I was there at 442 after driving 45min to get there. They denied me cause he wanted to go home! And mechanic guy was a total ass about it! Ran across the street at 450 to A+ smog he was getting ready to Go home but told him my story and he took and at the other guys coupon rate! this is the only place i have ever filed a formal complaint against with the BAR. let me give you some back story. i am an ASE master technician, a Toyota MDT (master diagnostic technician - the highest you can go with Toyota without being an engineer) and i have a California smog tech license. so why would i take my car (a 1997 Toyota Camry that runs perfect) to be smogged here when i can do it at work? because the state has set up two types of smog check facilities. test and repair, and test only. the name says it all, a test and repair facility can both test your can and do smog related repairs, as well. a test only facility can only test your car but make no repairs (the theory is this will keep mechanics "honest" and not fail cars on purpose to sell them repairs) my cars are all banished to test only facilities because they don't want me testing my own cars. so, i pretested my own car, it passes( with flying colors- surprise) , then had my wife drive it here to be tested because i heard they were reasonably priced and we had a coupon. well, they failed me. then tried to sell me repairs to fix it. AND did not honor the coupon and charged us 60bucks. i then checked it with my scan tool at work... there were no codes in the vehicle like they said. i drove it to another facility and it passes there... amazing. BAR opened a case but didnt really do anything because they could not prove anything. save your money and avoid this place like the plague. they are a rip off. read more

I highly recommend not going to this place. I recently got into a car wreck and am working on obtaining a salvage title. Upon walking in I tried making small talk about how difficult it is getting a salvage title. He mad no eye contact or reply. After the inspection he told me I failed due to the battery being unplugged. I told him, "Yes, the battery was unplugged because the car was in a wreck and how I was working on a salvage title." He replied, "Oh, I did not understand what you meant by that. I was then charged $46 and told it has to be driven 80 -100 miles after it has been unhooked. The guy was unapologetic and not sympathetic, but he wanted his money. I hope and recommend you do not get work done here unless you have money to waste and an uncaring mechanic. read more

Valley Smog will fail your vehicle even when it passes all emission tests, based on a visual only. They said they saw smoke from the tailpipe. I went to the mechanic and paid to have this fixed, but they found nothing wrong. Went to another smog check and passed with flying colors. I believe Valley smog does this so you have to pay twice and they then make more money. I will never go there again even though I have used them for the past 10 years. read more
