My child began the summer program at VPS before entering preschool. She attended PS, Pre-K, and Kindergarten before we had to move away. Since then, I've toured many school campuses to enroll her, and I can confidently say that VPS offers an exceptional academic program along with outstanding after-school options. One thing that really stood out to me was the weekly presentations my daughter did. I believe they were based on alphabet items, though I may be mistaken. Regardless, these presentations were wonderful for building confidence and public-speaking skills at an early age. The homework reinforced what the children learned in class, and the at-home projects helped them feel proud and capable just like the "big kids." The after-school programs are excellent. My daughter did imagination station, sprout and blossom, violin lessons, and homework club. It provides strong academic structure while also teaching manners, confidence, and responsibility. The staff is wonderful and truly knows every child. The only downside I experienced was when I requested a transcript for my child while applying to a new schools. I was told that transcripts were not available for those grades. I had asked if they could write a letter indicating they don't have transcripts or to create in for me but neither was done. After that, communication seemed to drop off, and it felt as though we were no longer a priority once we had left the school. Overall, I would still recommend VPS without hesitation. The tuition is also very reasonable for an IB and private school. I truly wish we could return to VPS or find another school just like it. read more

My daughter just finished her first year here, and she has grown so much! The teachers are excellent communicators whenever there are things to work on, or issues arise. They really want her to succeed. There are many afterschool offerings that she's been able to take part in. We're very happy with the quality of the education at the school. read more

Initially, my wife wanted to investigate private school due to safety concerns and I was impartial if the academics were solid. We landed on Valley Prep as it was the only private school that was not religiously driven or affiliated. At the first meeting the discussion was about things such as the culture day and after school programs but skirted around any meaningful data regarding academics, which seemed weird as they do state testing. The other big selling point was that they are a IB school, but this was less crucial as IB programs are not hard to implement, and many public schools have the same program. They did mention that the school is accelerated in language arts by one grade level, but math was at the student's grade level (this will become a major issue throughout the school year), but we felt it was acceptable for our daughter. They also assured us that the kindergarten class was their biggest yet (24 kiddos), but there would be 2 teachers and a TA to support the kids. After we started though, things went south very quickly. There were two teachers and a TA, but the most experienced teacher quit 2 months in. As someone with a family history in teaching elementary school, this is a huge red flag to depart after 2 months. No replacement came in either, so we were down to 1 teacher and 1 TA. The homework went through the roof as we were given 10-20 copied pages a week to complete. Their communication was nonexistent in terms of how things were being addressed in the class, so we were actual guessing and working against the grain at home instead of supporting. This led us to falling behind and seeking outside support through Sylvan Learning, where we found that many of the other kids were also seeking out tutoring support. What is the point of having an accelerated academic program if everyone needs a tutor just to pass? It became apparent that their teachers are not credentialed, not trained and inexperienced. They crammed K and first grade curriculum together with no strategy to progress despite having a curriculum coordinator. Their advanced program was just cramming K in before Christmas and then moving on to first grade in January. This was made even more frustrating when we discovered that recent research shows that pushing kids ahead and pouring on homework does nothing to develop their academic abilities. To top it all off, before Christmas, we were recommended to get our daughter "tested" for learning disabilities and to determine if she was on the spectrum, which we later found was recommended to a number of children in her class. Our family physician and teacher friends all confirmed this isn't usually discussed until end of first or beginning of second grade. When these issues were addressed in a meeting with the administration, the teacher and the admin disagreed on almost all fronts and there was zero support from the admin for us or the teacher, surprisingly. There was also an instance where we had questions about the reading level our child was at and after giving us very limited information we were told to address any other questions regarding our daughter's reading curriculum to the principle and not discuss them with her teacher in the future. All of this, plus constantly being asked to donate more money and supply more items for gift baskets that are just later auctioned back to us while paying for tutoring just to stay afloat. It was maddening. We had bigger breakthroughs and support at home and from Sylvan Learning (which required tutors to be credentialed) then we ever did at VP. The calendar we were given on the first day was wrong, and we were constantly surprised by day care closings and half days that we had to constantly stay nimble with our work schedules. Overall, we ended up exhausted and defeated with nothing to show for money we had sunk into this place. I would not recommend this place, which focuses on fearmongering public schools with zero advantages over them. This school should have a warning label *WARNING: stay-at-home parent, extra outside tutoring, and constant donations required to work properly*. read more

My daughter has been attending this school for 3 years and we absolutely love it. With small class sizes the teachers can really make sure everyone is on the same level and no one left behind. My daughter is above academically compare to other private schools and public schools. The teachers and staff are great always friendly. read more

We are in the pre-school program and we absolutely LOVE it! We believe that using your imagination and play is the first step in education. Ms. Schmidt and the Pre-school program does just that. She incorporates EVERY bit of learning into play and instruction and as they age, she challenges them with age appropriate standards and projects. Unfortunately, my experience with my son at Valley Preparatory School was not a good one. My son was not safe attending this school. He attended from Preschool to PK. While attending Pre-K he had 2 head injuries and he had to remove him after he suffered a severe concussion in the middle of the year when he was 4 years old. This school was cited by the state for neglect (look it up). Additionally, the curriculum was still "in transition" as they tried to bring on this "IB program". When I would ask questions about what my child was learning to his teacher Zepeda she was rude and acted like it was an inconvenience for me to ask her questions or inquire about anything going on. My son also complained about the mistreatment by this same teacher. I had no confidence in the administration from this school. Don't waste your money or time by sending your child here. read more

It's an amazing school that continues to evolve and get better. Our oldest son (now in college) attended and around 3rd grade decided he wanted to try public school so we moved him for two and half years before he told us that he would like to go back for middle school. We said okay but if he was serious he would need to transfer in the middle of 5th in order to catch up...and he had a lot of catching up to do. He finished middle school and it truly prepared him for high school and beyond. They taught organizational skills from early on (thank you Mrs. Boyle ). Our daughter was a different story, she attended from PreSchool until middle school when we moved her because the school was just too small for her large personality. She learned a lot and was a step ahead because of her science and technology learnings from VPS. All kids are different and you have to know how yours operates so you know if they will thrive in an environment. You definitely don't want to set them up for failure either. However, if you are looking for a school that embraces technology then this is your school! The technology is second to none. Mrs. Willis is a rockstar. It was made apparent, not only by her recent Spirit of the Den (Discovery Educator Network)award, but by the seem less transition from in person teaching to a distant learning approach due to Covid19. Back to the award---it's dedicated to an educator who is committed to learning, sharing, and connecting with other educators. That's what she does...she learns and shares, not only with the kids but with other educators. She made sure everyone could transition. This wasn't done overnight...it's been over several years in the making. During the darkness of the Covid closures, Valley Prep was a shinning example of what distance education should look like. You see, our third child also attends Valley Prep! When all of the schools transitioned to online and when I looked at my college, high schooler, and Valley Prep kids---Valley Prep by far had their act together when it came to resources offered, education provided, technology used, and so much more. The staff has been great. Physical Education with "Ms. Broccoli" makes you tired just thinking about it. Library time with Mrs. Bolanos was a highlight of the day! Spanish, French, Art, and Music....so many teachers on top of the everyday learning that takes place. Was it perfect, no. Was it good, yes! It was last minute and very little prep time but they pulled it together. They regrouped after they took a survey and continued to evolve over the two month period. Given more time, they could probably transition the model and offer online course instruction to those interested in distance learning full-time. I appreciated the teachers and their commitment during this difficult time and hope to see them all in the Fall. Just waiting to see if that will be in person or via the computer. read more

Our son has been attending this school for the past 4 yrs - from Kindergarten. This is an excellent private school with a STEAM, IB education program. Small class sizes are the single factor that has proven to help kids learn. Valley prep has small class sizes, with an excellent curriculum. The teachers are very involved in the children - There are no kids who get "left behind". Our family highly recommends this school. After school programs, integrated day care after school, an excellent music program, art, PE, Spanish, French - the list of pros is endless. read more

Overall, small classes, dedicated teachers, a rigorous curriculum and an international student population teach lessons far beyond the three R's. Students from VPS succeed and lead at their respective high schools, they go on to top-notch universities across the nation, and they have become leaders in their chosen fields. One class can boast that 100% of its graduates went on to become doctors of medicine or dental surgery. Pretty amazing. From the first day at Valley Prep I felt as though there was an unspoken hierarchy at the school. There are the "haves" and "have nots". If you have lots of money, you're golden. If you're the average Joe trying your best to get your kid a good education, you'll see a difference in the way you're treated. Some families have their own parking spots. What message does this send? The school is expensive enough, and their hands are always in your pockets. This school is NOT for the "have nots". The first year my daughter attended kindergarten we truly felt invisible and that our needs and concerns were not heard by her teacher. We never had our emails answered in a timely manner and just generally felt pushed off to the side while other students and families were welcomed with open arms. My daughters birthday was completely ignored by her teacher when all other students were recognized. This hurt not only my daughters feelings, but our feelings as well. The only good thing I can say is that the class size at this grade was smaller and we liked that. That was about it. We had hoped for change in 1st grade. 1st grade came and we had a much better teacher....actually, she is fantastic. However, the class size was almost exactly the same as a public school (I believe there were about 20-25 students in one classroom). For the amount of money this school charges, I don't feel that this should have been an option. My daughter started to slip in some areas, and we had to print almost all of the homework pages ourselves. Truly a hassle. You pay for all your supplies and print almost all of the homework. Your out of pocket expenses seem to grow each year. It's just ridiculous. And don't kid yourself. My daughter was bullied the entire time she was at the school by a certain student and it was never dealt with. Bullying happens in both public and private schools. As soon as Keheller stepped in for Dr. C as head of school, we knew it was time to leave. Dr. C was a kind, gentle man who was understanding. He really cared. After he retired, the new head of school stepped into his place and he is beyond rude and just plain awful. We just can't deal with the problems this school has anymore. The education your child gets is not worth what you pay. You'd be better off hiring a private tutor and enrolling them in a public school. read more

My husband and numerous friends have attended Valley Preparatory School, and now my 3 boys attend there (5th, 2nd, and Pre-K), and we absolutely love the school. This is our 6th year there, and I am a very active parent, volunteering for fundraisers and classroom events all the time, so I am able to see all the facets of the school. You can't beat the impact of structured, small-student classrooms when it comes to education, not to mention the languages (French and Spanish), music class, art class, P.E. three times a week, computer/technology class and the incredible field trips they go on. All of my boys are thriving, and there is such a community within the parent/teacher system that is dear to me! I wouldn't go anywhere else in this area! read more

My children both attnede Valley Preparatory School from preschool to 8th Grade. It is a wonderful school with individual attention to each child, very well prepaed to High School. During the summer sessions, kids from other private school would attend and it was very clear that the Valley Prep students were very well ahead in all subjects with supposedly othe excellent school. The is a large cultural diveristy at the school with kids from many ethnic backgrounds. My kids benefited from learning from others They had French and spansih since preschool, trips to Rrance and Spain were arrranged for Middle School kids. Valley Prep is an excellent school for parents who are looking for small class sizes that enables a student to get individual attention, technology advances such as there laptop program, and variety of programs they offer like art, music, and foreign language (french and spanish). The teachers are extremely attentive to your student's education and teach in a creative way so the students are able to grasp the concept of the subject. They are also very friendly and easy to talk to.
