Terrible service and my milkshake tasted like milk with a cherry on top with red dye. Will never come here again.

However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. FOOD - 5 stars..tasty, reasonably priced diner fare exceeded my expectations AMBIANCE - 4 stars...clean and spacious diner SERVICE - 5 stars...friendly server made a big difference TOTAL - 5 stars...if I'm ever in western Pennsylvania, I'd be back RELATED - Exploring the Pittsburgh area? Menu items include French toast, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, sandwiches, salads, soups, and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband and I ate breakfast here one time. An employee promptly and kindly greeted us, seated us, took our order, and brought out our foods and drinks. I ordered the 14-inch buttermilk pancake with triple berries on top, and my husband ordered the sausage gravy 'n biscuits with two sunnyside-up eggs. Both foods were significantly larger than what we could fit into our stomachs, and they tasted very good. The total price was $27 with cash or $28 with a credit card plus a tip. We had to pay up front at the cash register, not at our table. Note that a free parking lot is behind the building.

We were able to be seated without a wait however, and the service here is top notch. The wait staff hustles and takes care of everyone, regardless if you are at their table or not. Refilling coffee, water, asking if we needed anything, etc. I ordered the Popeye omelette (with spinach and feta) and I added on ham. I enjoyed it very much. Toast is extra, but the prices are reasonable for everything and portion sizes are sufficient. My daughter had a breakfast with hash browns and said they were cold, unfortunately. That is the only negative thing I can say. The restaurant and ladies room were both very clean. The walls are adorned with lots of funny farmhouse signs. the whole place is very country themed . You can tell it is a favorite local breakfast spot and if you live in Westmoreland County you should definitely have breakfast or lunch here!

We opted to do a late afternoon reservation at 4:30 and were very happy and sated after enjoying all the dishes we chose. Stand outs were the fried chicken and beef filet tenderloin. The carb loading was in full force with delicious stuffed shells, Mac and cheese and pierogis. All were worthy of second helpings, although I refrained! Actually all the hot entrees were very good. The salad bar was a bit disappointing and there was no one manning the pasta station. But there was more than enough other options to make up for that. Desserts were the only place there wasn't a huge offering. Most of my group opted for the Bananas Foster. They loved it! Our server was pleasant and regularly checked in to see if we needed water or to take away dirty dishes. And the atmosphere was pleasant with an industrial vibe. Now I'd like to return for a real meal, a dinner or lunch, not a buffet.
