I love this place. Got the three taco combo with Asada meat. Rice & whole white beans. Tasty. La Cocina was on their game this afternoon. I left with a full belly. Service was quick. You know the saying, never shop while you're hungry so I ate first. Next stop at the Panderia for some pumpkin empanadas. They make them so soft, fluffy with plenty of pumpkin filling. I do shop at this store only once or twice a year. For specialty items such as tripe and pork fat to make traditional Mexican dishes. The store is clean. No one speaks English unless you speak English to them as far as the ambience feels like you're in a different country. I decided to give Vallarta Supermarket another chance since their upgrade. I am very sorry I did. I loved the clean layout and the variety of prepared foods. Deli, juice bar, bakery, meat market. tortillas and salsas. What I didn't like was after buying $250.00 worth of groceries, I was expected to not only purchase bags, but bag my own groceries. I am 66 years old and just going to the market is a challenge, but then to have to bag my own was more than I could handle. I threw everything back into my cart and then had to put everything in bags at my car. I am Hispanic and feel disappointed in what my race considers customer service. The meat counter tried charging me for a more expensive cut of meat than what I wanted or was given. I watched the attendant pack the meat I requested and knew I received what I asked for. Because of the large quantity of groceries/meat I purchased, I didn't notice the overcharge for a different, more expensive, cut of meat until I arrived home. The meat was more than double what I should've paid. I immediately went back to confront the person that packed the meat and he suddenly couldn't speak English. After arguing with the manager and proving the meat I had been given and what I was charged for were not the same he finally refunded what was owed. So I have a friend that lost his wallet at this super market and had over 2000.00 in cash in his wallet.... Not the smartest move, but the employees at this store recovered his wallet and returned to him the following day. Now with that kind of money I would think some would have been missing, but it was all recovered. Be careful with the meat products especially the meat that is marinated does not work anymore. It is rotten. That's why they marinate it. I know because my brother work at one of the stores in the meat department and told me what they make them do with the meat and chicken. That's why he no longer works there. I live out of town and visiting my parents for Mother's Day; so I never go in. I stopped in (Tulare store) to get some flowers and my change back ended up being $2.09. I asked the cashier to take my penny so that he could just hand me a dime back. Instead, he said he didn't have time for it because there was a line. Lol! There were two people in line and they were together....and it would've taken less time to just grab a dime! SMH.... I hate this place! Every time I go to the meat department to get a couple of pounds of meat. There is always about 20 to 25 people waiting to get meat and only 2 people helping in the meat department ! It takes about 30 mins for the 2 people to get 6 people's order. Tonight we odered a family Carnitas meal with grilled onions and peppers, red salsa, tortillas, beans and rice and paid extra for a small pico, green salsa and guacamole. Cost 32$. Meat had heat but absolutely no flavor just tasted like grease... Tiny container of guac cost $4.50 and all of the containers were so much smaller than we got before Covid. I was so disappointed. We had been buying this dinner for years before Covid. The tortillas and salsas were the best part of dinner. Tortillas were really good...salsa and tortillas are the 3 stars. This review is as a grocery store. They do have a deli and I would say that their deli food I would rate as 3 1/2 starts. The prices are about the same you'd pay at a Mexican restaurant. The taste has gone down a bit in quality but if your in a rush or need something fast it's not bad.. I've definitely had worse.. much worse. The aquas frescas (flavored water) are really good. As a grocery store I love this place. It has a variety of food from meats & cheeses, bakery, fruits and veggies. I know a couple people that don't like it bc "of the smell"... not sure what that means but I suppose if you have a hound nose the different smells may be overwhelming. They have a sale on their meats every Tuesday and on their fruits and veggies on Wednesday. The bakery is constantly making fresh bread. The rolls are sooo good when they just come out of the oven. Staff are always helpful. I would say the worst part is probably the restrooms. So tip: use the facilities elsewhere and than come shop. You'll thank me.. lol. This Is The worst Vallarta I have been to. A store full of employees and the women's restroom was the worst I have ever seen. How is it so hard to clean restrooms? Employees were issuing this restroom with no issue it was gross. The service is so slow, waited almost 10 min in line for a fruit water, there's workers everywhere and only 1 cashier at every station. Not sure why this store isn't more organized today is Wednesday and it was a horrible experience. read more

They have definitely vamped up the way the store looks. Over the years, the customer service and staff have gone downhill. Customer service is pretty shitty at checkout. I stood in express checkout as I had 7 items, and they placed the placard card and said closed. I thought seriously. And the guy cashier didn't even look up. There was a guy collecting carts...probably my favorite because he gave me a good laugh. He just didn't give a f. He collected four carts, stood in the middle of the parking lot and chatted on the phone. When I was out of the store, same spot, but he now collected 7 carts. Honestly, I can't say their fruits or meat are the freshest around, but unless you catch a good sale, not sure it ends up being worth it. I do enjoy the convenience of being able to get fresh green salsa and my conchas and baked goods in one spot. But something the shitty services makes me wonder why I don't just go to the panadería down the road and just make my own salsa. read more
