Large selection and assortment of almost anything you can think of. If you're looking for wax beans, go elsewhere. Anything else, even a wide variety of bulk items this place has it. Service appeared non existent unless you were checking out or at the deli. Most everything was well stocked and easy to find. Store was clean, well lit and easy to get around. The 5 start review is specifically for Lupe in the Deli. She is the kindest lady. I ask for my lunch meat to be cut very thin. Almost shredded. She does it every time with a smile and conversation. Always seems genuinely happy to help. The other gals back there though... they are so shitty & rude. They get pissed when I ask & typically have some slick comment. A lot of the times they will go & slice it and tell me "I can't do it any thinner" knowing damn well they can. Just behind the deli counter being rude for whatever reason. The Lady in Self Check Out is so Freaking Rude her name Tara, she was very prejudiced I am white, and my friend is Mexican. We both shared a basket. We both had less than 15 items but together it looked like we both had more she didn't say a word about me and I had 18 items my friend had 15 and she was on her every second saying you cannot bring out here you gotta go get in a different line, she didn't say it very nicely. My sister recently turned me on to WinCo Foods while shopping for the holiday. She knows how to sniff out a bargain and WinCo did not disappoint in the bargain category. This store is interesting. First off, it is huge. It's huge and has a very strange layout as compared to your more mainstream grocers. WinCo is a kind of mix between Costco and Walmart with a nod to Whole Foods with its bulk bins. The store is always very busy and staffed with plenty of helpful employees in each area. WinCo has great prices but is not the store to come to for a good selection of organic produce. There is a large selection of bulk food items, such as cereals, nuts, trail mixes, dried fruit, and candy. You will also find DIY honey and bulk spices at a fraction of its pre-packaged counterparts. At the checkouts, think Food 4 Less and get ready to bag your own groceries. Large parking lot. Open 24 Hours. Credit Cards are not accepted. Winco has always been great. The food is amazing. The prices are great. Everything is affordable. It reminds me of a mini Costco to be honest. What I love about winco is the deli. Much like save mart (which is another review in itself) the deli is ALWAYS on point. I go here almost every day before work to grab a sandwich. Now let me explain why. You pay 2.78$ for a giant sandwich that will last you the entire day, as to where you can go to a sandwich restaurant and pay three times the amount. I tried a croissant turkey, ham, combo type of deal this time around. The date says sell by the 5th, well, today I'm writing a review on the 6th. It's incredibly delicious to say the least, and enough to keep me full for probably the next few hours. I write this as I eat it, and as you can see, I'm taking bites between pictures. Once you get over the slight inconvenience of using cash, this place is awesome. Pizza counter in particular is a draw, you'll get a take and bake large for $12, or a full sized calzone for $6. Buck and a half for a fresh loaf of french bread, and the produce and meat is very cheap. Sushi isn't half bad, there are definitely spots in town that make worse rolls. Great value on all sorts of random stuff, candy, peanut butter, coffee, etc. Technically, they're open 24 hrs, but the store is only fully open (deli, fish, pizza, all displays etc.) from 9am - 8pm. read more

Ok, self checkout! My husband and I buy separate groceries and pay separately, but shop together. We share a basket because we generally don't buy much on each trip. It has come to our attention that if we want to use self checkout and are buying a combined amt of over 15 items ( two separate orders), we can only do it if we use two different grocery baskets. Today I had 13 items in bottom part of basket and husband had 7 items on seat part. We were not allowed to go through self checkout at that point. So I got out of line, retrieved an empty basket from front of store, moved my items from original basket to new basket and got back in line while hubby checked out with his items and then had to wait for me. I then put my purchased items back into the shared basket and we left the store. I understand some people take advantage and don't use self checkout according to "rules", but I would think that not allowing two people with small orders be forced to use multiple shopping baskets is silly. How does that cut labor costs or make it convenient for shoppers? It must be cost effective to have someone sit at the front of the line ( with 6 registers) monitor the make up of family units and police who has what. That is in addition to the person who actually has to help shoppers use the self checkout. I complained as this has now happened twice, but it is "policy" and apparently there is no common sense flexibility going to happen. By the way, when we do buy a significant amount of groceries, we go through the regular checkout. I've never been in any other store with self checkout employees that diligently make it difficult for us to make our purchases. read more

Hi! i have been shopping at Winco since i moved from L.A. to Three Rivers, CA., the "heartland" of CA. 12 years now. i love the store--super prices & well stocked... great bread! I HAVE NEVER written a review or a complaint, but after being ripped off with disgusting quality i just have to. i have had decent maguro & rolls from the little sushi bar for a few years... THIS CHRISTMAS we spent $70 on all the sushi we could put in our cart for a party.... GUESS WHAT?? it was disgusting! WHO EVER MADE THIS HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING---the fish was okay, but the rice was foul--squished tightly in a rock-hard ball--this person has NO TRAINING WHATSOEVER---then, 2 days ago, my husband forgot how bad it was & bought more.... Had I known, or had it been posted on entrances to the store, I would not have wasted my time nor have encountered a rude employee. Since was it okay to walk behind cars that are backing up. Society has lost their mind. Why do people try and walk behind a four thousand pound vehicle. I really like this store. The seafood section is going to kill someone. On September 1st, my boyfriend and I went to Winco to do our shopping for the first part of the month. He had just returned from being away working for a month so we decided to splurge a little and get lobster tails for dinner with my parents. We got 4 of the 4oz lobster tails. This was our first time getting them from the Visalia Winco. We never had any problems with lobster tails from Wincos in other cities - they were always great. So we expected them to be the same. We considered getting a few oysters as well, but after seeing that many were open, we knew they were no longer good and should be thrown out. They were like that every time we wanted to get some previously, so we never got any. An open oyster is a dead oyster, and they have a life expectancy of 4 days once they are harvested. Who knows how long these have been here. We steered clear of those - that should have been a red flag not to get the lobsters. We boiled them up shortly after we got home and let them cool. My boyfriend starts shelling them and notices a strong ammonia odor. Neither of us had smelled that before when cooking shellfish - this can't be safe. A quick internet search confirmed they were seriously spoiled. Like more than a little bit spoiled. It smelled like it was marinated in ammonia. We took them back to Winco, and they did give us a refund. We also informed them that their oysters and clams were all bad, they were all open. Customer service pretty much told us NO, that they are checked every hour and got us out of there as fast as they could. The following day, we returned to get a few more things and we stopped by the seafood counter to see if the spoiled oysters were removed and replaced with good, unopened ones or if they were just going to be out until the next shipment. To our surprise, we saw every oyster TAPED CLOSED with blue tape. There was no ice under them. ALL OF THEM WERE TAPED CLOSED INSTEAD OF BEING THROWN OUT! I took pictures of them. This really happened. I will never get anything from their seafood counter again. I will upload a photo showing the spoiled food for sale. They are going to kill someone with food poisoning. We returned yesterday, Sept. 8th, and took a peek at the seafood again, oysters still taped closed. Were these the same ones we saw on Sept. 1st and 2nd? Maybe? I still shop here because of the low prices on pantry stuff, dairy, and produce, but I am probably going to be getting my seafood elsewhere. I was also surprised to see so many reviews about rude employees, I have never had a problem with any of the employees. So Winco, 4 stars on the rest of the store because I'm happy with everything else, but you don't carry many items I am used to buying at Winco or it would be a 5. (no more crushed jar ginger, the tea section is really small, sometimes the checkstands are filthy, the restroom is always kind of gross) read more

Winco is literally my favorite grocery store chain to visit! I miss having regular access to them, and they're probably one of the few places I've been to where it seems that every person is familiar with service dog/ADA laws and they follow them. I love the fresh food they have made in front of you and you know it's fresh because half the time you have to wait a few minutes for them to bring out more. Finally the employees are generally pretty fast at ringing people up so there is no need to go to self-checkout. They're one of my favorite stores! read more

My favorite supermarket! I lived in Chicago, NorCal and SoCal and I like this gem in central valley more than anything. The only thing that beats it is a farmers market but for supermarkets this is the best. I love that they have a massive bulk food section, just bring your own cotton bags and they will weigh your bags. It is very eco-friendly! I love that. I have never once used a plastic bag at this grocery store! I love the seafood here - I got scallops, salmon, etc. The service is amazing and there is so much selection. I won't come back here!! Went in there 3-12 at around 1am. All the stockers were taking a break in the front so my girlfriend and I thought let's hurry and get out! So we went all the way to the back to get my deli meats then went to the other side to the dairy I noticed the boxes and carts were blocking the exit so I told my girlfriend to stay back while I was getting our yogurt. As soon as I got the yogurt a worker blocked me he was 3ft from me didn't even say anything?! As I started walking away I heard 'Chink' as I left the isle I heard "look at the chino" from the other employees!! No other shoppers just me I talked to the manager the next day Amy Gonzales she said she'll watch the video then follow up with me, to give her a week. A week later nothing I contact another manager a Hispanic guy that wouldn't give me his name. He said that he'll follow up?! Nothing another week of nothing!!! I won't go to this place anymore?! I would give a zero if I could!!! Nearly EVERY SINGLE MALE EMPLOYEE had either their mask off their nose OR HAD THEIR FACE FULLY SHOWING!!! The ONLY ONES WEARING THIER MASKS RIGHT WAS THE FEMALE EMPLOYEES!!! One guy was laughing and high fiveing other male employees AS WELL AS clearing his throat and doing lite coughs WITH HIS MASK TUCKED UNDER HIS CHIN!!! And he wasn't just uncovering real quick than recovering. NO THIS GUY WAS FULL ON JUST WEARING A BEARD NET!!! Worse of all he SERIOUSLY TRIED TO GET NEXT TO ME! The row was blocked so my husband went ahead as I stood there a separate employee asked if I needed help I said No I am just waiting for my husband I couldn't get by with the cart. So the uncovered employee starts to walk to me and says here I can move stuff for you. He was getting FAR TO CLOSE! So I say NO you are fine where you are. Thank you. A year ago I be praising the guy for wanting to help me but COVER YOUR MOUTH! Not only was there the employees problem but there was customers with no mask what so ever, and some had their nose showing. ONE GUY just had his coat over his mouth!! These customers even talked to employees and NO ONE said a word about correct ways to wear a mask!! And there was WAY MORE PEOPLE THAN THERE SHOULD BE!!! I don't mean to be a Karen but since this while thing started I have been keeping myself at home only going out when it is a MUST. I suffer from lung complications so I am at high risk. I wear my masks EXACTLY like they should be because I do not want to be sick. After going here today I came home and took a good long shower. I ADORE WinCo! I started shopping here when I lived in Folsom, CA and was ecstatic to find out there was one in Visalia. It's open 24 hrs. which is unheard of in small towns, and the prices are great. I absolutely love the self serve bins of different food. Everything from candy (including sugar free), to dry pasta, spices, snacks, nuts, dried fruits, dog/cat food and snacks and more. Their bakery is great, love the torta bread, and their pizza is mighty tasty and cheap. YES, they don't take credit cards, but if you were to read the LARGE SIGN, in PLAIN SIGHT, that wouldn't be a problem. How do you think they keep their costs down numb nuts?? : P read more
