Worst Repair Experience of My Life…read more I paid Alvarez $1,100 for a rack and pinion repair. When I picked up my car, the steering wheel was tilted 45 degrees off-center, and the steering had noticeable play. Two different professional alignment shops confirmed the rack was installed incorrectly and unsafely. I had to pay a second shop $394 to correct Alvarez's faulty installation (re-center the rack and tighten several loose bolts/lines). A week later, the rack failed completely while driving. The second shop found that Alvarez had installed a hose improperly, which rubbed and caused a catastrophic leak, requiring an entirely new rack and pinion replacement at a cost of $1,421.62. They also confirmed Alvarez had used a cheap, likely junkyard part. The receipt showed they had installed a new part so they lied about that. Alvarez denied all responsibility and refused a refund. I took them to court and won a $1,200 judgment, which they have now ignored and refused to pay for over a year. This business is dishonest, incompetent, and disregards legal rulings. Avoid at all costs.

Which is some bs. Never go here honestly

They sent the engine to A & I. So initially when I decided to do this little adventure with Rick and Kevin all was well. I mean there were some red flags, like not getting back to me ever, everything taking FOREVER, and a bit of the mansplaining but I let it slide. When we started the rebuild Rick wanted to replace the clutch. He had a certain one in mind which was higher performance. We also assumed new alternator and starter as both were failing. So I called every few weeks and it was taking a while and then the day finally comes and we go get her. Rick shows us some stuff and off we go. We are supposed to put 500 miles on and come back. We get home and park. There is oil dripping out everywhere. I call and they tell me that they started it without an oil plug in and it blew clean new oil all over the engine. No, they didn't clean it up but I can bring it back and they will. Next day I try to start it to do that...won't start. When it finally starts it is making a horrible squeal. Shut it off immediately. Call Kevin and he says I should have it towed in. I should. They came and got it after I was like nope dont think so. So before they come get it we are looking under the hood...they didn't replace the old ass starter, the alternator ( original 1991) or the clutch. I ask Rick about clutch and he says to me, i couldn't find the one I (he) wanted. Im like wtf. I ask about the other things and he says if we did all that it would be too expensive. So I want these parts replaced. I think asking the customer WHILE YOU HAVE THE ENGINE OUT might be your play but Rick didnt think so I guess. So my partner goes down to shop and says hey...we want the new parts but we dont think we should pay shop time just pay parts. This is because, again, they had the engine out, they could have called us to ok parts or not but chose not too. The next week I talk with Rick about a time line, he says has to order parts. I call the next week he says parts will be in Tuesday. So I call back (parts should have arrived Tuesday I call wednesday). Kevin says it will be three more weeks. I ask why and he talks about getting it back on the lift etc. I mention to Kevin what Rick said about parts in by Tuesday so why 3 more weeks and Kevin gets upset says he can have Rick call me but I noped out of that because at this point Rick is being a dick about the whole thing. So Kevin calls my partner the next day to say car is ready. No idea what happened to 3 weeks because he didnt call ME about MY vehicle even though I am the only one who has signed anything or paid anything. Whatever. I call Kevin back to get the total.... $960...wtf? Partner calls Rick and he literally has a little tantrum on the phone (it was on speaker phone):and says fine you dont owe anything. I would have left it there but my partner went down and paid for the parts that they jacked up (doubled) the price on. So my take on the whole thing is that Rick and Kevin are nice if you never challenge them or ask them to take responsibility for anything they fucked up. What a shame. Hard pass on this place.

I bought very expensive aftermarket bulbs but discovered the front bumper must be removed to change the light housing which I also wanted to replace. I saw this body shop had high stars on Yelp so I called to ask if they would perform the work. Their immediate response was "no" and "we don't do that kind of work and only install OEM components." I kindly asked " do you recommend anyone else that will do this work for me?". Immediate "nope, you'll just have to call around" They were about as helpful as a broken fence post and could care less in my opinion. My next phone call was to Underhood Automotive. Immediately helpful and professional. Chris said they do this kind of work all the time and install DOT legal headlights on older Shasta County Search and Rescue vehicles. Every single question I asked was answered. I live 4 hours away from Redding so coordinating this was somewhat of a Challenge. Chris even told me my mom's car had loud squeeking brakes and he would inspect those as well. Strong Automotive has high stars so I'm guessing their body work is pretty good but customer service is also very important and in this department, they have a long way to go.

I experienced damage to a wheel hub on my dual axle trailer in Ashland OR. Had a shop there install brakes all around while they were repairing it. Heading back home to the Bay Area, by the time I got to Mt. Shasta another hub was heating up. I spoke to Troy, a mobile mechanic in Weed. He was booked and, lacking other options in the area, I decided to limp down to civilization (Redding) where my odds of finding help would increase. Troy referred me to All Wheel. Four hours and 65 miles later, I limped into their lot, hoping against hope for an appointment sometime in the next week. I spoke to Rizzy, an outstanding gentleman with a heart of gold. Much to my surprise, within a short time he had Brian inspecting all of my axles. As it was late in the day, we decided it would be best to finish in the morning. As others have mentioned, I was graciously offered the option to spend the night, which I gladly accepted. Throughout the process they kept me in the loop as to what they were doing to diagnose and eventually fix the problem. They found two issues that the previous shop was responsible for, and by noon the next day I was heading back home to the Bay Area. I could not have asked for better service. The level of professionalism was outstanding. I highly recommend these folks for your repair and maintenance needs. Thanks Rizz!
