Usually I love this place, but today I was served drink that tasted expired and had chunks floating around in it. I questioned it and the staff got mad. I loved this place. Equal parts dive bar and coffee shop, Vagabond Cafe offers the best of both worlds. I stopped by at night not quite knowing what to expect. There's a full bar, tables, and booths. It very much feels like this has long been a bar before a coffee shop. Still, there were baked goods and other light bites available, much like you'd see at any coffee shop. Plus a full menu of all your caffeinated favorites to enjoy alongside books, board games and more. As far as patrons there at midnight on a Wednesday night, the were both those enjoying libations alongside a few sober folks enjoying late night coffee and surfing the internet/working. I fell in love with this place as soon as I took my fantastic house martini from the bar to a booth in the corner to read some Calvin & Hobbes, a book provided at the table. This would be a great spot to work from in the afternoon. You could start off with coffee and end your day with a stiff drink as soon as you're ready to put your laptop away. The Vagabond is one of the only coffee shops I have known that is also a full service bar! It's a great spot to bring your laptop and study or do whatever. There's a great patio out back and in front. It's fun to sit out front and enjoy all the fun and activity happening on Douglas in Delano. They offer a small amount of snacks, like bagels and cookies. My go to drink is an Irish coffee. Gotta love the taste of baileys and Jameson in a coffee. This place has been a great local hangout for years and it will continue to thrive for years to come. read more

Heard some people have loved it so stopped by with the fiance. Definetely a mixed crowd with hipsters and town drunks. Bar staff seemed friendly enough but we didn't enjoy our double espressos at all. Coffee itself was pretty weak. We tried one of their bagels and it was tasty as we sipped on the disappointing espressos. We might come back and sip on some wine or try out a new beer but don't recommend the coffee. Great place to hang out and chill with wifi or board games to keep you entertained but the booths and seating are otherwise limited due to number of customers. Decor is vintage and fun. That's the same price as coffee!" Don't come in the back if you like to use the term "hipsters" to refer to atmosphere, because sorry my dude, you ain't a cool kid. Or maybe you are. Hipsters call other hipsters "hipsters" sometimes. I like their hummus, I hear it's from N&J's (or used to be anyway) and I THINK I got a review for them. It's probably five stars. Stopped by and found it to be a very relaxing place. It had several students using the WiFi and studing. They have the full bar so if in the mood, or a couple of drinks and it can change your mood. There are a couple tables outside also for nice days like today. Ordered a coffee today and wasn't impressed with it, didn't taste fresh but it was 4pm. I love any where that will serve a good cup of coffee or hot tea AND offers a full bar. Is is it a bar? Is it a coffee shop? I guess that all depends on what you order. I always wish more coffee places sold drinks and vice versa so you could truly post up at one place all day and have the libations you need. We came here around 11 in the morning to work for a while in the comfy booths with free WiFi. We were able to work without interruption for a few hours, and we got a couple of refills while we were at it. It was the perfect answer to being a little burned out on straight up coffee shops. I loved the vibe. The guy running the bar seemed owner-ish - let me put it this way: if he is not the owner, the owner should be very thankful to have this guy manning the ship. He took good care of us, checking on us a few times. The music was great; I'm not sure if it was their own mix or some internet deal, but they played two different tracks off the Modest Mouse record that had been released only the day before, so I was clearly in love. read more

Classic coffee shop and bar, very much like my favorite Lawrence spots. In fact, I think it was modeled after the Bourgeois Pig in Lawrence. I enjoy the cozy atmosphere (no longer as smoky as it used to be!), although it can be hard to find seating sometimes. The selection is good for the coffee, better for the bar. Good for a first date, conversation with friends, or just a quick drink out on the patio (in the summer). They have a great radio feed through XM Radio, which gives the place a funky retro vibe which I enjoy. The people who frequent the place are pretty interesting and fun as well. I often see students studying or people playing chess or cards on any given night. Parking can be an issue, but that's nothing new in the 'Ta. Definitely check it out! read more

Good coffee place. I swear this is a staple of Wichita, but it also serves as a hub for online First dates. I have been here a couple of times and watched people meet for the first time. The drinks are cheap, coffee will wake you up, and they have a collection of board games that you can waste away your time with. Kind of a hipster joint. I think one time I was there a guy was on the patio with an old school underwood typewriter going at it. Good music and a great environment. read more

This place is suffering from identity crisis. It's a full fledged bar that tries to act like a full fledged cafe. The mix usually doesn't work too well, bar crowds are rowdy, people frequenting cafes are rather sophisticated :) at least I like to think that way, cause I love hanging out at the cafes. This place is great for coffee - they know their latte's and espresso. The wifi is fast and it's generally quiet- if you are a student you can study there. They are open from 7am to 2am, so it's nice to be able to drop in whenever. Drawbacks: Biker's, Alcoholics, Smokers, Low-life's and meth-heads from the local neighborhood. If you don't mind the retro-cafe/sport-bar feeling, then it's an ok place. My #1 complaint is that I am not a smoker, and they leave the front door wide open so that the smoke from the smokers outside comes drifting in. I'm not a big fan of smoking other people's cigarettes. I've even asked the bartenders to close the front door so I don't have to breath the smoke - but most of the bartenders are smokers too. The only redeeming factor here compared to going to the library is that I can drink a latte at the same time as doing my work or getting on the net. But when the smoke starts billowing in the front door, I leave. read more

I usually have received great service here .Last nights service was horrible there was no excuse for it. Yes it was Riverfest but a friend and I arrived when it was winding down and there were only 15 customers inside the building. When I sat down at the bar when the bartender went to take my order he said"What do you want Im busy". He never gave me a chance to fully order and my friend and I drank a few sips and left because he was so negative and hormonal acting. I myself have waited tables and bartended for over 10 yrs in the past. There is never an excuse to act that way.I left feeling cheated. I had hoped to enjoy an old favoriote spot as I have been a customer there for over 12 yrs. I can't convey enough how deeply dissaponited I was at this experience. I love Vagabond, it has a full coffee menu as well as fully stocked bar. I do wish they served more food however. But the hummus is yummy, although not enough and it comes from N and J's... which is fab. And they recently have given themselves a face lift complete with new booths/tables and even smoke eaters. Before I would refrain from going there too much because it was indeed too smoky... but they have since fixed this problem. I've gone to this place for years. -I enjoy the different artwork on the wall, most of the bartenders, the scenery, etc. -The patrons are a mix breed of friend and foe... mostly friendly. -Parking has always been awful, but it's within walking distance to most shit going on down town. -My wife hates going here, but I love to take my kiddo every once in a while to get him into different scenes too (during the morning). -Coffee is fantastic (hazelnut especially) -Drinks taste the same as anywhere else in Wichita. sometimes stronger (thumbs up). -Wish they had food; obviously space is limited. -You can get barbarically shit-faced and mix right in with the evening crowd -Generally, there's good conversation Not a place to get dressed up to go (Several hipsters/hippies/near-homeless and/or questionable looking patrons - nearly all of which are seemingly friendly), but definitely a place to relax or work on homework/work during the day. I would probably frequent Vagabond much more often if the workers were a bit more pleasant. They think they're just too cool I guess.
