Lucky's has a recently renovated patio out back which is great when the weather is nice. It will soon include quartz heaters for the cooler months. The staff is friendly. Off the beaten path just a bit means that it's a bit quieter than other "Old Town" bars right after work and in the early evenings. It does pick up after 10pm most evenings and occasionally has a band, but not too often. A decent selection of premium liquors like bourbon if that is your thing, 6 draft beers and plenty of bottle selection. Standards like PBR, Highlife and Coors Orig. are $2.25 everyday. No need to look for a special. Lucky's just hits all the right notes for me. Sitting there with the old-timers around the bar and watching the trains underscores this realization, too, though the Modelo on tap and the salsa being offered are small capitulations into the changed makeup of the neighborhood. It's more than just a out-of-date dive bar that caters to bikers and the fairly old, or at least they care about serving them a decent meal, because the collection of sandwiches they have on offer are nice and simple: salami, ham, cheese, whatever, but the cold cuts are improved thanks to the Delano bread and a good bit of toasting under the panini press. Add a serviceable potato salad, a couple of beers, and some popcorn from Kernel's Popcorn Express, and it's a bar that might not be looking for customers like me, but welcoming all the same.

We try to check out a new place during each trip and wound up back at river city brewery. However! There was great live music coming from across the parking lot. Taking a closer look, we thought... cigar bar? Let's check it out. And I am glad we did! Mort's has such a great atmosphere! The girls working here are so cute, friendly and helpful! My partner is a cigar smoker but it was my first time. We opted for the Havana Honey, which was a smaller cigar. Our server got us all set up and that choice was pretty good! I now see the hype. They have a large drink menu but I stuck with a Michelob Ultra. We came back the next day and Sundays was $1 off drafts so we did the same thing again. The live music was great. Mort's has live music EVERY DAY! I love bars with live music and the fact that they have it every day is a reason we went back the next day. It was actually warmer on the patio than it was inside the location. The live music was enjoyable and the singer played a lot of 60s and 70s easy listening.
