The little Vietnamese girl who did my nails and brow waxing here was very polite and did a fantastic job. I was a little irked when I first arrived because the owner (manager?) was standing outside smoking and turned to go back in just as I approached the door. He walked in first and didn't hold the door for me, allowing it to slam in my face. After I was finished and was paying the girl, I gave her a tip which she placed in her pocket. I was shocked when the owner/manager came storming up, screaming at her in Vietnamese. He reached into her pocket and took the tip away from her! After he left, I asked the girl why he had done that and she seemed afraid to say anything. I wouldn't go back... I just got the worst pedicure ever. They were short-staffed due to the holiday, which I understand. But don't compromise on quality. I would have preferred to wait longer. The woman painted my nails standing up, as fast as possible. Nail polish is all over my toes. I paid $25 and I will take the polish off and re-do it myself. I won't be going back. read more

Wellllllllll it's clean and bright and the owner is the sweetest! Unfortunately, she's not that great at painting nails. Work is sloppy and they're constantly trying to upsell you. The tatted white girl is the only one worth paying for. Sometimes if they're slammed you'll get Grandma doing your pedi and gramma doesn't know what she's doing. I've had waxing done there and that turned out fine every time. I just really wish they weren't so sloppy with the nail painting! Three times now I've left dissatisfied. read more

I made a mani/pedi appointment two weeks in advance to come in with my mom before my senior prom. We arrived 5 minutes early and after selecting our colors we were ushered back to soak our feet. 40 minutes later our feet were like prunes and the water was cold. No one should wait that long for service, especially since we had an appointment. A girl finally came over and was clearly in a bad mood. She rushed through my pedicure but my nails turned out decently. Then I was given the fastest manicure of my life. My nails are rough on the edges and poorly shaped and my cuticles are ripped because she skipped the soaking part completely. I asked for French so she did the white tips and then cleaned them up with nail polish remover as per usual. Then as she was doing the top coat, she bumped one of my nails and smudged it. She went back to fix it but made it worse and I pointed it out to her. She seemed annoyed and finished in a hurry and I went to dry my nails at which point I was able to examine them. They were horrible! I came home and immediately took them off. I can do better myself. I will never come here again and I highly recommend skipping the appointment part completely because walk-ins were given more attention than us. Maybe another person would've been better but I am very disappointed. read more

They were busy, so we came back in 30 minutes like they had asked, no problem. My daughter's nailpolish had the manicurist's hair in them when it was complete. We asked for them to fix it, but they just added another coat to cover it up... gross. My cuticles were not groomed, my nails were filed unevenly and were ragged, plus there was nail polish all over the edges of my fingers. What they did was a polish change, not a manicure. I went there with my best friend and they were rude and kept rushing us. I told them they could help someone else because I was assisting my friend with finding a color. The lady sat in front of me with her elbows on the table huffing and puffing and she told me to give her my my hands just so she could see. and she started anyway I was getting Shellac removal and re paint, but between the rushing, the mocking of my friend, and the jerking and pulling my hands I only got removal which was sloppy and caused my nails to break. And they still ended up charging me for my entire service even tho I only got polish removed. read more

I've been here a few times before and while it's a little more expensive than most places it is generally worth it. I can not say the same about today. Today I got the cucumber pedicure and while the cucumber and massage were nice the towels that they wrapped around my legs were so hot they left red splotches where it burnt my skin. I asked for a design on my toes and she took it upon herself to do flowers, I realize that some people like a flower design, I'm not one of those people. I could've dealt with it if there was at least time and effort put into it but it wasn't. It took her about 1 minute on each toe and the flowers are nothing more than 5 dots. If I was 10 years old I would probably be ecstatic. But it was definitely not worth $50. read more

Unfortunately I can only give a 3 star rating. While I know there are huge dog fans in Cville, I am not. The dog in the shop does not set a relaxing atmosphere.The dog is more annoying than anything. He tends to bark at greeting each customer and as they exit. Honestly, I can say that if Candy wasn't my amazing nail girl, I would not choose this salon. I'm sure he's harmless however a young child may feel differently as his demeanor appears aggressive which is why I'm hesitant to bring my daughters along. I am really not happy about this place. I went in today because it was close to home. I just moved here from NJ so I haven't had the chance to shop around and boy oh boy I will never go back to this place again ALL BECAUSE OF YOUNG or YUN . Today I went in as a walk in and the two ladies that worked there seemed to be very helpful. I told them I wanted a manicure and full set with gel. When I sat for my pedicure I was handed a menu to choose which kind of pedicure I wanted so I choose the one that was $35 ( ten dollars more ) because I know the lady was trying to up sell me anyway.Honestly it was one well needed and best pedicure I ever had. The reason I gave this place one star is because When it came time for me to get my nails done, The guy doing them was the most nasty man I ever met. He didn't smile once. He ignored all of my questions. He was constantly making noises of dissapointment like he hated his job and clients. Its true that one bad apple can spoil the bunch. My nail experience was the worse in my life. He made me feel uncomfortable and like it was a burden for him to do my nails. After the horrible experience of him doing my nails,I then went to get my eyebrows done. After All of the work was done my bill came to $84. I am so upset and my nails are already chipping. Never again. I should have never gone in there because when I first moved to Charlottesville I remember going inside the salon to ask for prices and I remember leaving out upset because Young was nasty like he didn't want me in there.. I have never had a worse eyebrow wax in my life. The woman who did it jerked my face around, was not the least bit gentle, and ripped off half of my left eyebrow. I left in tears. I shouldn't have even paid, but I did. Plus, despite asking her to not use any oil on my face, she immediately slathered my skin with baby oil. I will never go back. read more

Stay away from this place. I got an acrylic full set (35$) and it looks awful. Instead of using a brush to put the acrylic gel on, she put liquid on my finger nails and dipped it into powder. When I brought up the fact that I could still see the powder after it was finished, she argued it was supposed to look like that. I am furious I paid so much for awful nails. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. I asked for a traditional acrylic set but was given SNS which is more expensive and out of my price range. But I didn't say anything because At first the SNS looked okay but after the second dip they started becoming lumpy. I asked for a simple coffin shape but most of the nails are very noticeably uneven not to mention they didn't look anything like the picture I showed him. And even after asking for him to paint all the way down to the cuticle I walked out of there already looking like I needed a fill in. I was also cut multiple times with the drill and after he put oil on one of my hands he set it down in a different place and then picked up a bottle called "dry sealer" and poured that all over my other hand and after he realized what he had done he just said "whoops wrong bottle" and poured a bunch of oil over the dry sealer. Overall, I like going to VA nails and have never left unhappy with the way my nails look. Everyone here does good work and the massage chairs are fantastic. I like the location and the wait times for walk-ins are reasonable. However, I see a lot of reviews on here praising Candy, which is confusing to me. I find her to be condescending and abrasive. Nearly every time I've visited this place she seems as though she is in a foul mood. She makes it very apparent she does not want to speak with you throughout the entire pedicure, which is incredibly uncomfortable. IF she does decide to carry conversation, it's rather patronizing. It's really disappointing to go somewhere to unwind and instead feel tense because the technician has a chip on her shoulder. I get that sometimes people just have a bad day. But she has been having a bad day for about a year now. I'm not a confrontational person, so it's much easier for me to put this here. If she happens to read this, I'm hoping that she can be more considerate of her clients going forward. read more

Went back to have it fixed 30 minutes before they closed (had a professional meeting the next day so needed to get done) and a man there said come back tomorrow that they were closed. Not very friendly people but took a chance because I was on my lunch break and it was close. NEVER again the pedicure was terrible. I had to ask him to clean the extra paint from around my toes, i had to ask for them to be filed evenly and the whole toe isn't painted and it was just all around a terrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone DON"T waste your time. read more

This is a very bad nail store, I have been to a few but this was the worst out of all of them. The service is bad, and the workers are very rude. The manager Mia is very bad at doing nails I went there a few days ago and after she was done with me 2 days later my nails had fungus because some of the stuff she used went underneath my nails. I went back to get a fill.... after it was done... i was charge 40.00 for the fill (more than I was charged for the full set). This place used to be awesome, the best place in Charlottesville. I used to like each person there and felt like they always took their time to give me a great experience. I don't know if management changed, or ownership changed, or word got out that they WERE fantastic and now they don't feel like they need to be fantastic anymore. And they are expensive, so they SHOULD be fantastic. The last several times I have gone, they have quickly gotten me into a chair, but then I have to wait, with my feet in water, for 45 minutes before someone begins my pedicure. By that time, the water is cold. And the person who starts my pedicure is never the person who finishes my pedicure (I don't like that). There is an older lady that does the massage portion of the pedicures. I believe she is the mother of one of the younger employees. More than once I have felt that she's not entirely sure what she is doing and she doesn't appear to speak any English at all, so you cannot correct her or explain to her what you need or want. They take too many clients, so they are always rushed now and the service has REALLY suffered because of that. I will probably find a new place for future pedicures. read more

It's a hit or miss, depending on who you get. Definitely ask for Ryan if you do decide to go here. He does great work and is very professional. I unfortunately cannot say the same of some of the other employees - specifically the female technician who works at the second station back when you first walk in. I wish that I knew her name so that you could ensure that you stay FAR AWAY FROM HER. Her work is poor and she was unbelievably unprofessional and rude on my last visit. She took 2 hours to do a half-assed basic manicure on me. When one of my nails got smudged, she went to repair it. However, I noticed that she had grabbed the wrong polish. I told her that it was not the right one and grabbed the one that I had picked. She tells me that I don't know what I am talking about and she knows what she is doing. She puts the wrong color polish on, and I show her how it does NOT match the same color as the other 9 nails. She proceeds to start yelling at me in her native language and throws away the correct polish. Of course, she does all of this AFTER I had already paid and tipped her. Needless to say, I will not be returning, even though I do like Ryan's work. I will now be going to Holly Nails across the street near Kohl's. read more
