I looked far and wide for any service to be able to assist with quite a complicated query - basically can you dump an image of my NVRAM and flip the value I edited back to stock? Almost no place was able to do this I mostly got (we do not service this kind of request as an answer) while some places did in fact respond and wanted to look at my machine, I had a good gut feeling about MicroSoldering Lab - Tech Defense and went with it! Man was I happy I did! This guy is one of the best I've ever seen his ability to diagnose an issue and provide a solution that is above and beyond is truly insane, he was able to not just fix my laptop but RESTORE my NVRAM variables I had worked on diligently for over a year and a half! After taking my then 3 year old MAC BOOK PRO (bought new for $2,300) to Direct Tech I thought it was strange that 2 of the screws were left out of the bottom panel, but I let it go. A little over a year went by and the computer began giving me a lot of trouble, so a son said he'd go to the Apple store and have it fixed....nirvana! Dan left the computer with Apple at 3:00 in the afternoon and was told to pick it up at 8pm. When he came back that evening he was told Apple couldn't touch it as it has an aftermarket hard drive........good-bye warranty! Shock!!!! Looking over old bills, I found that they had taken out my Apple hard drive and replaced it with a REFURBISHED (meaning USED) hard drive. We went to see Direct Tech and of course they claimed that they asked me first. I know myself and I NEVER, EVER WOULD HAVE APPROVED A REFURBISHED PART for my lovely, relatively new computer. Of course the used part failed after a year and another hard drive had to be put in. (another 200+ bill) In all my 20 plus years of dealing with computers, I have ALWAYS been offered the used part. When we asked Direct Tech where my Apple Hard Drive was they claimed it was so bad they had to destroy it......! As a writer, I use my computer mainly as a word processor and for emails. It doesn't get hard use at all. I went to their "office" and it was disappointment from start to finish. I walked into a room with 2 guys, a desk, and pure awkwardness. I told him that I was the one who inquired about the new iPhone camera on yelp. He looked through his messy desk and determined he couldn't find my part and I would have to wait til Monday. So I left. Just downstairs in the same building, was San Diego Jailbreak. I went into a nicer "office" where the owner, Jeff, was very polite and helpful. He quoted me the same price as his competitor, but he actually had the iPhone part I needed. What's cool about Jeff's business is that he has a waiting room, so you don't have to deal with the awkwardness of watching someone fix your phone. Part of the time I was waiting, I sat near his desk to watch some college football on TV and he was even social enough to have some good conversation while he worked. He was able to replace my iPhone camera within 15 minutes and it was as painless as it could possibly be. He did it quick at a fair price of $50. I guess the only thing the other guys had a leg up on, was that they offered me a 6 month warranty on the new camera and San Diego Jailbreak only offered 60 days. So, my piece of mind is a little questionable. Despite that, Jeff seems like the type of guy who would take care of his customers. Also, he's a self proclaimed perfectionist and I can totally see that watching him work. I'll be back here for any phone repairs in the future! 5 stars!
