You're going to find so many good things in here! If you come in from 5th & Weller you'll enter into the food court. Thai Place, Aloha plates, Saigon Streets, Jardin tea, Waji's Poke bar, Dochi, Beard Papa's! We walked into the market and checked out what they had premade. Once I saw takoyaki I had to have it! I went around the corner to where they have duck being freshly chopped up and ordered a duck combo plate for my husband and I. This was a lot of food! The duck entree is humongous, they don't skimp out on portions and at around $15 they really are being extremely generous! I loved the flavor of the duck and the meat was so tender and mouth watering it was tempting to suck on the pieces to really get the flavor experience. Duck isn't for everyone though. It's a boney one and normally I don't even like chicken wings, but we found this one easy to eat with our hands and we immersed ourselves in the delicious flavor of each bite. It's a delicacy and I highly recommend trying duck if you haven't and at this price, you wont find better! read more

This place has it all. It is a solid grocery store, done in the traditional Japanese mall style (so, there's a lot of retailers in the same space). All the Japanese foodstuffs that can be functionally imported are here. The place itself is as pricey as an American equivalent grocery store in Seattle. Even the imports are reasonably priced. Lots of hot and cold takeaway foodstuffs. If you miss Japan, come here to get your Japanese fix!!! I want to give it five stars, but the parking lot experience brings it down one star. I realize they have to control parking and possibly charge (it's right next to the stadiums), but that parking lot is so crammed in and confusing... definitely a departure from Japan in the parking lot and more a visit to the traffic nightmare of urban Hollywood. read more

No trip to Seattle is complete without a stop at Uwajimaya. The recent renovation seemed to make the aisles more spacious and the grocery store more organized. The produce section is much more appealing. I love Japanese dishes so always find a little plate or dish that calls out to me and spend at least an hour browsing in the bookstore Kinokuniya. I love this place because of its wide variety of produce. Plus the food court has a great selection of restaurants to choose from. But I tend to prefer to choose the stores hot meals. Last time I chose the wrong entry and the server was so nice she went back and fixed it for me. I wish there was more seating but what do you expect when the food is so good. read more

Sad on this visit as well as last year's visit. I was so looking forward to buying fresh fish like it use be loaded on ice but instead all u see is frozen. Even the food court has changed with less offerings. What happened to all those delicious bento boxes, nigiri boxes, etc. What is offered doesn't look appetizing as well for the high prices. To me, in my experience, Asian supermarkets, the good ones all hv a food court full of great food choices. Even the household section (chawan, hashi, cute stuff, etc) use to hv to-drool-over designs but now sell bland choices of every-Asian-store items . Ugh, where to start? There were so many great things to see here as an out-of-town visitor. I was already impressed with the small Uwajimaya out in Renton, but this venue blew my expectations. It's huge, very spacious, super clean, and I could've almost sworn I was back in Japan with how well stocked everything was. Granted, it wasn't very crowded (you can blame the snow), which made shopping much less stressful. But you can also blame the snow for the attached humongous Kinokuniya bookstore for staying closed. I was so looking forward to visiting it! At least the Royce' chocolate shop front looked open. If I hadn't already bought a few nama chocolate boxes at their Southcenter location, you betcha I'd have spent more time drooling in there. Access to the store is fairly straightforward if you came into Chinatown by car. Uwajimaya/Kinokuniya has garage parking, but you have to make your purchases in order to receive the parking voucher as it is for customer parking only. It is also easily accessible via elevators, in which you can see ads for their weekly specials. Ps. We were visiting Seattle and heard about this huge Asian supermarket. There were aisles and aisles of products. It's similar to Mitsuwa in NJ. There are snacks, household items, food, alcohol, and so much more. We purchased instant brown sugar milk tea packets for $11.69, fruit gummy candy for $2.99, and a card from Bright Spot Design for $5.50. Bright spot design is a local artist and she has some really cute artwork. There were some items on clearance as well. If you're in the area or want some Asian goodies, definitely worth checking out! read more

Just be careful, if you drive a bit of a distance to get here don't leave it u til 10 mins before closing to use the restroom. They close them 15 minutes before closing. Everyone needs to make time to come here when visiting Seattle! It has an Asian grocery, bookstore, and food court all in one building. I ended up spending most of my money on anime merch at Kunokuniya, which had 2 levels and a lot of fun things to look at. Whatever little money I had left went towards lunch at the Vietnamese stall Saigon Streets, which had delicious coffee as well. The other restaurants looked good as well, I can't wait to return to try them all. The facilities were clean and they have a water refill station if you bring your own bottle. read more

Uwajimaya is a huge Japanese supermarket located in Seattle's Chinatown. The selection here is amazing with actual products imported from Japan. You can find anything you want here. It is like a smaller version of the Mitsuwa Marketplace in New Jersey (New Yorkers would be familiar with that one). Wow what a great Japanese supermarket. They have damn everything. Super clean place and very organized. Everything is easy to find I feel and the variety is huge. Also has lots of pre-made foods for a grab and go. For what I have tried so far, I would have to say it will really hit the spot. Now remember it's not a restaurant so don't expect the best food in the world but for sure better then any regular food. Also they sell a lot of just around the home goods and some cosmetics. Also some nice little spots inside. A drink spot and a pretty large book and Japanese goods store for some little things to look and buy. I almost wished I was staying a couple extra days so I had some more time to shop and buy things. Would be great to try some of the other foods they had to offer. For Seattle, this and the Bellevue location are the best option. Compared to SoCal, the Bay or Honolulu a 3.5 because it's over priced, the people making much of the food are not focused on top quality because I suspect the leadership has a challenge hiring good authentic Japanese people to make the food. Not being racist but hiring any kind of Asian to fill these positions doesn't mean they'll take the same pride in making the food. It has EVERYTHING!!! Everything you expect from Taiwan, Japan and some from Korea. Of course, those foods imported from Japan are kinda pricey but still acceptable for some people I guess. For example, sweet potato from Okinawa Japan are almost $5 per lb. Beside those imports products, I think others are pretty affordable including food curt. We got fried rice $6 and Vietnamese bun $8 from ready to eat food section and poke bowl $9 from food curt. All tastes good and cheap. They also carry a lot of Asia cookies and snacks! One of the standout features of Uwajimaya was the fresh sushi and seafood available at a decent price. Additionally, the store houses several small food shops offering an array of delicious treats and snacks. I personally enjoyed the fresh poke on top of a salad for a very reasonable price - it was delicious, fresh and satisfying. OK Japanese grocery store. GOOD: lots of produce and meat. lots of japanese cooking ingredients like sauces, flours, rice. OKAY: decent selection of Japanese foods and snacks. I was able to find all the basics such as strawberry pocky, shrimp chips, and imuraya taiyaki. BAD: mediocre selection of Japanese specialty items. I was hoping to find some of the Japan exclusive flavors of pocky and kitkats since all the reviews were raving about how this store has rare ones. Turns out that's a lie. Kitkats available: white chocolate, matcha, yam. Pocky available: 5-6 of the standard US flavors. Everything had English packaging, no real Japanese imported goods. This trend followed for most other stuff -- this shows that this store is just an outlet for American branded Japanese products, not true imports. You won't find that hard to find true Japan exclusive stuff here very much. Disappointed. read more

I've been coming to this Uwajimaya for over 15 years now, whenever I am in Seattle, and I know that they are at the tail end of, or have just completed a major renovation. And I hate to say it, but I'm not digging it. Again, I might be prejudging things because it might not be the final finished product, but the entire space seems too open, kind of cold, and I don't know...bland somehow. The food court is a pale shadow of what it used to be, with several vacancies, so I'm hoping this will fill itself out in the next few months or years. However, saying anything else disapprovingly would be doing a great disservice to this amazing grocery chain. Their produce and meat sections are still among the best you'll find anywhere...and I mean -- anywhere --. Not to mention the huge variety of Japanese and pan-Asian Foods, condiments, treats, alcoholic beverages, pastries, deli items, and so many things I can't even remember them all. I don't think I have ever left and Uwajimaya without spending at least $50, and I don't feel guilty about it. Even in this new and somewhat off-putting configuration, there is absolutely no doubt that Uwajimaya is the best of the best when it comes to grocery stores. Don't let the pronunciation scare you away ... Took me seven years living in Seattle to finally make the trek down to the International District to visit this grocery fantasy and I was agog walking through the produce, meat, and fish departments. Then I rounded a corner and the world of Asian cuisine and ingredients opened up like a mouthwatering cornucopia of ramen, Anime, and gummies. Uwajimaya (pronounced oo·waa·juh·mai·uh) is GLORIOUS!! Such a fantastic assortment and it's clean and spacious. I mean they even carry the peanut butter mochi from Fugetsu-Do in Little Tokyo, CA!!! I almost cried tears of happiness. I KNOW PB mochi sounds sacrilegious but trust me, it's legit. I was also shopping for some Chinese ingredients/spices/sauces & they had those as well! Out of the corner of my eye, I also saw Korean and Indian items! They have a good selection of prepared grab & go foods as well from sushi rolls to buns to baos to basque cheesecake slices to sashimi (got me some hotate sashimi which was fantastic!). Uwajimaya is an all in one Japan town. With a wide assortment of Japanese groceries and produce, ready made sushi, bento boxes, donburi, etc., they also have a big Japanese Sake alcohol and snacks. A section dedicated to various Japanese household item. They have a food court, but was expecting more variety and Japanese food (i.e., squid balls, fresh sushi, Udon, poke bowls, etc.) Location also has a Japanese version of Barnes and Noble store with everything a anime fan wish for. This Asian market has it all. There are groceries of every variety and lots of different cuisines available, along with pretty reasonable prices. I haven't been here in years an it is hard to imagine an Asian grocery store could get this much better. There are entrances on both sides of the store, but the main, larger lot is on the south side. 1 hour parking is free with $10 purchase, and 2 hours are free with a $20 purchase. You will not have a problem hitting $20 here. They have so much good stuff. In addition to your normal grocery items, their prepared foods are top notch. They offer a variety of Asian foods, not just Japanese items. The poke by the pound is amazing and they also have spring rolls, BBQ pork, and of course sushi. Everything was great and items that were supposed to be served hot were hot. The sushirito had too much mayo and the hot and sour soup was just okay, but everything we got was restaurant quality at a grocery price. What's not to love! read more

I wish every Asian grocery store was as stocked and as clean as this one! They offer so much variety in brands! Just the matcha section alone offered more than 2-3 brands and kinds of matcha. They have a plethora of Asian treats and breads from Japanese mochi to Filipino bitso bitso and kakanin to Hawaiian rainbow cake. There are pastries I didn't even know existed til I saw them here! I had to add Uwajimaya to my Seattle itinerary and see what I am missing out on. I wish Uwajimaya was in Florida! As a Japanese American in Florida, finding certain Japanese items can be difficult. This place had everything that I would need for all of my Japanese dishes (especially when cooking for Japanese New Year). The place is spacious and clean. They have hot and cold food readily available. Fresh sashimi, bento boxes, produce, variety of alcohol, and aisles of Japanese snacks! Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated when you are checking out. There is also a food court and a Kinokuniya connected. As well as a Daiso across the street and other restaurants nearby since it is in Chinatown. Definitely come give this place a visit. read more

It's got lots of stuff - snacks, household goods, there's a Kinokuniya store inside the market, just like at the last location. Since we were visiting, I didn't have any need for prepared foods but if you're in the area and have a microwave or even a fridge to store prepared foods, this is a good place to stop by. I "discovered" Uwajimaya 17 years ago. I was looking for an Asian grocery store in the area and asked someone if there was one nearby. They directed me to Uwajimaya. I had no idea how wonderful it was. I have been to Asian Markets all up and down the west coast and Uwajimaya Seattle is by far the best. It has everything and then some. It is really an attraction as well as a market. I always tell visitors to Seattle that they have to go to Uwajimaya to experience it. I never miss an opportunity to go when I'm in Seattle. When I stepped inside, I was excited to see shelves full of snacks I can't find in Jacksonville. After the dry items, we made my way to the fruit and produce section. That was where the disappointment began to set in. Mangosteen so old, they were hard as rocks, passion fruit beyond ripe dried and wrinkled, blood oranges that were so soft, they felt more like stress balls. Our next stop was the seafood department. Things looked even worse here. The live fish tank was full of dead fish. The fish that were still alive were feeding on the dead ones laying at the bottom of the tank. It wasn't one fish that had died that morning or right before we got there. They had been dead for a while. The employee behind the counter saw me pointing to all the fish in the tank while I was trying to see if there were any that were still actually alive. It was so disgusting, we didn't want to trust any of their prepared sushi or other any other meals. We paid for our dry groceries and left feeling disgusted and disappointed. While we sat down for a cup of boba tea, we decided that we needed to document the quality so turned around walked back in. It was apparent they knew they had dead fish in the live tank because by the time we got back (20 minutes) the majority of the fish were removed, and so were the three king crab they had in that tank (which were still alive because I actually saw them breathing). In short, great selection of imported foods, be wary of everything else. read more
