It's a small-ish school (as most elementary schools are) in Fremont, near the Woodland Park Zoo. BF Day is rather diverse in all meanings of the word, and does a good job of teaching kids that everyone is important and loved. The parents are generally lovely, as are the teachers, though many of my favorite staff members have retired. It can be a bit of a hippy school, but that is far from a negative, it just encourages kids to explore their creative sides and embrace themselves. I haven't heard a single negative thing about BF Day, though I do know that due to some zoning issues, a lot of kids have lost their transportation, which is a majorly sucky, but I don't believe that the school is at fault there. tl;dr BF Day is pretty much the best and everyone who went there loved it

When I moved my boys and me…read morenorthward from Portland to Seattle, I had researched the "cluster" school system (never was a name more appropriate for a system or situation), though my research was clearly insufficient. Because I made certain that I moved into what I thought would be the perfect cluster for my kids' schooling needs and profile...I just failed to realize that would make no difference whatsoever to where they went to school. My boys are half hispanic, and I wanted very much to continue with the Spanish language education I only sporadically inflict on them at home. So I moved into the Laurelhurst-ish "cluster." What Seattle did not advertise is that its school zoning situation is not just a cluster, but the mother of all godforsaken clusters. They found no availability in any ONE school for both my boys. That's because clusters at the time were only "suggestions" of where kids could attend schools. Suggestions that were largely completely ignored, and no matter where you lived in Seattle, your kid could be bussed into nearly any zone at all. So you can basically move your family onto a tent settlement ATOP a particular school, and not be allowed to enroll in it until the 300-child wait list of kids from a school 15 miles away takes their priority. W, as the kids say, TF. So the last years have been a constant cluster indeed, with my boys in two different schools and and in and out of several. Having tried or toured quite a few schools in the area now, I can say, this one is my favorite elementary school in Seattle so far. My son has a wonderful teacher, Miss Jackson (and yes, it is so punishingly hard not to say, or at least think, "If you're nasty!" every time I say her name) who despite being forced, as all teachers are, to teach to a strict test curriculum imposed by the lowest-common-denominator-encouraging "No Child Left Behind" legislation, is still highly dynamic, wildly flexible, and very encouraging of creativity in all its manifestations. I absolutely love her, and I love the diversity of the students and the parents--a graceful blend of the privileged and the struggling, chaotic and the orderly, the uber-hippies and the uber-hipsters who all somehow manage to be very empathic and very likable. It also sits at just the right notch on the spectrum of academic rigor. We tried John Stanford International with Nico, and he called them "The Von Trapp Family Singers." Whistles to encourage hallway lineups? No talking in the corridors? Boys' and Girls' lines for 5th graders? No dark sarcasm? In the CLASSROOM?! Yikes. Plus every mom I met there without a single exception kind of gave me the impression that the only hard decision she has to make in any three-week period is whether to give her cook, nanny and housekeeper massages or Lush bars as holiday gifts. I'm extremely grateful for this school and for how happy Maximo is to attend it. Teaching excellence here is clearly valued, as is parental involvement. If you're in the area AND in the market for an elementary school, stop in and say hi. They're great people.

One of the things she helped me do was regain my sexual confidence after a romantic rejection I took hard. Devi also guided me to regain my inner footing around sexuality. Rather than tell me to just go out and get lucky she supported me in developing my own inner sexual confidence without associating validation from another person. When the student is ready the teacher appears. After I cried out all the tears of feeling rejected as a woman, of rejecting my own femininity, but no thoughts of joining a convent entered my mind. Serendipity stepped in a month later when a friend of mine forwarded a newsletter to me via facebook. It was written by Devi Ward about Tibetan Tantra. Even though she is based in Seattle, Devi is able to teach the practices virtually via Skype. I just knew what healing remedy was that needed and wanted to do. My intuition compelled me to respond. The path was clear and glad I followed my intuition to start the steps towards Tantrika training.

Very knowledgeable and we both learned a lot more than we thought we would have. Things that we didn't know were even a possibility. We learned how to connect in a completely different way, physically and spiritually. It was an awesome life changing experience! It will be a journey, for my husband and I, to get the best out of what she taught us and it will take a lot of practice but we for sure got more than we needed to succeed and achieve more than we can even imagine. We are so so grateful for her! She is currently located in Bellingham, WA but is looking to move to Seattle,WA, which is a lot closer to where we live. So we look forward in the possibility to attend any seminar or teachings she offer. Don't be afraid or too self conscious, just go for it. Devi is awesome!

Their sessions were centered on strategy and learning how to organize and develop good study habits and while content teaching was a part of it, our son's growth into a confident student was the most important benefit. The last session with Jason is next week. Our son will be graduating from Ballard High School next Wednesday (with straight As) and in fall he is starting at UW Engineering - majoring in MechEng and Industrial Design. My husband and I are very grateful to Greg and Jason for all the support in last 4+ years. It was really great to know that even though our sone would not really listen to us, Jason will likely get through him and point him in the right direction. It was wonderful to work with NWES. finding them was one of the luckiest accidents!

Traditional school + tutoring was unable to teach him to read, especially because he was stubbornly against learning to read. Homeschooling with him was frankly a disaster. I'm very tenacious and resilient normally, but his stubbornness just kept defeating my efforts. Morningside is pricy, but in our extreme case we needed real help. My son is now reading and the relief is hard to convey. He's still behind his grade level, but showing truly amazing progress. Thank you Morningside!

A teacher named Brien would get upset at her, even slamming the clip boards right near her on the table. She has PTSD so it really upset her when he did that. Also let's talk about Shiloh. They are pure evil, having a coffee mug that says "tears of my students." Aren't teachers supposed to be helpful to the new generations? They yelled at my daughter for apparently laughing during class when she didn't even do such thing. After school one day my child was in tears saying how Shiloh made them have an anxiety attack. And apparently I wasn't the only parent who complained/reported them. Another thing, they said they don't accept students with behavioral issues yet it seems quite the opposite. Another girl hit my child on the back really hard and hurt her. She told me that one did anything. The teachers here love to make children cry. Also forcing their political beliefs on minors who can't even drive yet! That's up to the parents to decide they should talk to their kids about political stuff, not the teachers. And no before any of you come at me it wasn't part of a lesson. The teachers just liked to have an audience to vent about controversial crap. They put the students in somewhat dangerous situations by exposing them to homeless people in the area and other strange things. One teacher got mad at some students who didn't want to participate in a protest. Are you serious?? That's not their decision to make. They can make their own choices. You don't know why they don't want to participate. Could be personal reasons right? For math and the speedy math problem worksheets like cum 34. Are you serious?? That just sounds very inappropriate. They wouldn't let anyone count on their fingers. Um... doesn't Howard Stern count on his? If it's not hurting anyone let them do it. It's fine. The timers were terrible. Brien blamed my daughter's entire class for supposedly hiding a timer and making it go off to be funny. Not only was that mean but it was a very bad assumption. My daughter said none of them did it. This is the most woke school I've encountered and that's coming from a Democrat. Don't take your child here, you'll regret it. However, I'm most angry with Shiloh. My daughter's friend said how they were talking to them about demonic crap and ghosts. Why?? Why are you talking to students about these kinds of things in a school setting? I tried to tell the principal this but she didn't seem to care about my concerns. The teachers act like immature students rather than the actual students themselves! One refused to let another student go to the restroom when she was menstruating. She ended up going home early due to embarrassment. I'm glad I took my daughter out of here before it got any worse.
