With El Niño coming, it was time to deal with the drainage issues near our house. We needed a French drain/sump pump installed. After getting a number of bids, we opted to use Utrilla's Landscaping. Their bid was the most reasonable and some of the companies didn't even respond. The work done by JP was fantastic. He and crew worked thru some awful conditions--4 days over 100 degrees--without complaint. The area looks immensely better before we even get the first rain! If Utrilla's can handle complex job like ours with ease,, then you can hire them with confidence for all your landscaping needs! Thanks JP! read more

I first used Utrilla's when I wanted to install a drip system to my front and backyard several years ago. I bid out the project and JP was the most fair and detailed bid I received. He and his team did a wonderful job with the installation and I have been using his company for my irrigation and landscaping needs ever since. When I added an ADU to our backyard, the contractors really tore up our planters. He helped to relocate as many plants as possible to another area and install a temporary barrel system until a new drip system could be installed. We are now moving forward with reinstalling the new system and adding pathway and landscape lighting. For peace of mind, he warranty's his work. In addition to the big projects, he has helped with smaller repairs as well. He is thoughtful in how he approaches the projects so they are completed efficiently while being cost effective. JP is extremely trustworthy, honest and fair. It's nice to have your go to guy you can trust. I highly recommend JP and Utrillas Landscaping. read more

This is a repost and an update to a previous post. JP started a job for me in February, and I terminated the relationship in March. His communication was terrible, his team did not show up when he said he would, he had me spend money on materials that were not correct, and he hid demo from other projects into mine, so I would pay for the disposal. When I confronted him, and after a lot of excuses, he did remove the demo materials from the other job (at least some of it). What little work he did for me was incredibly poor quality and I need to have it all redone. I took him to small claims court in August, we settled in mediation, but he did not pay me back any of the money we agreed upon, and then disappeared. We go back to court in the beginning of December. read more

JP and his team are truly the best around, I keep hiring them for projects of all capacities, and I am never left anything short of impressed. I recently hired them to install a new outdoor concrete paver patio, which involved ripping the old stonework up beforehand. They did a gorgeous job and made sure that all of my specifications were addressed, and really made me feel like I was part of the process the whole time. Anything from a lawn service to tree trimming to full installs like this patio, they are definitely the guys to call. read more

JP did an excellent job removing an old deck that was becoming a safety hazard in our backyard and replaced it with some stabilized DG. He and his team worked quickly and efficiently and he made sure to communicate with me through out the whole process. He also moved some irrigation and added two concrete steps for us. He was very reasonable with his pricing and took care of everything we asked for. Our next step is to do some landscaping which we plan to call JP for. Highly recommend! read more

JP and his team are great. We hired them to install French drains on the side of our property, because our existing drainage system was not sufficient to deal with the amount of rain we have received this season. JP quickly responded to our request on Yelp and came out to provide us with a drainage plan and estimate, which was very competitive. The team showed up on time and did a fabulous job. During the construction of the new drainage, he found some damaged pipes and came up with a way to bypass our air conditioning unit and connect the new drainage to the old system without trenching underneath the unit. read more

In October 8, 2024 JP and his crew completed the installation of new Hunter irrigation sprinklers in the front and backyard of my home. The crew was focused on the job and completed in 3 days. JP is professional, explained the details of the job on the contract . The system is digital so the app on our iPhones helped us monitor or change schedules real time, on line. The sprinklers are functioning and amazing. The newly seeded lawn is looking forward to a healthy well watered grass. I can always call on JP for any questions and assistance . He and his crew are helpful, hardworking and experienced landscape team that I highly recommend. The price of the job was right. Thank you JP and crew. Also on Nov. 15, 2024 JP and his crew cut and trimmed 3 trees and bushes in the backyard. I am very pleased with the work. JP and his crew left the property clean . The trees looked better and hopefully will grow healthier. The price was reasonable, highly recommend. Thank you JP and crew. read more

We want to be sure to add to the excellent comments as well. JP was outstanding, highly efficient and did such an amazing and detailed job. JP did an update to our sprinkler system, which was in dire need of change and totally understood very quickly our needs and was extremely detailed in explaining the process. If I could give this company a hirer rating I would! Thanks so much, I would use them again and again..and highly recommend them to anyone who is seeking this service! read more

This service is just trash. Says he going to come but flakes. Weak ass entrepreneur . Pick this place if you want your garbage picked up. You should be out of business. Have some pride in your work. Edit: your snarky comment ain't going to help you. Plus your service is expensive and weak. Go way. Stop stealing people's money read more

I had hired JP and his team to complete some tree trimming and general landscape and lawn cleanup work for me a couple of weeks ago, but the rain storm came, and we decided to push those projects off for sometime. I reached out to JP after the storm, because I needed an even bigger project to get completed - a complete install of a French drain system, and re-grading of a huge area of my property and backyard. Even though I wasn't technically an existing client already, JP made time to come over and complete this project Within an accelerated timeframe, making sure that my drains would be in place before any more rain came. A hefty price for this kind of work is to be expected. It's not cheap work. But the drains that they installed are functional and very high-quality work, and JP made sure every step of the way that I knew what was going on, and even suggested some additional ways in which I might be able to manage heavy rainwater on my property going forward. I look forward to using their services for all sorts of landscaping and lawn work in the weeks and months to come. This company really makes their customers feel like their wishes are being heard and respected, and I would highly suggest hiring them for any of your landscape or install needs. read more

Jose of Utrilla's Landscape provided us with excellent service in the design and implementation of a front and back lawn renovation. He listened to our concerns and ideas, gave us very knowledgeable feedback and reasonable costs, then helped manifest a manageable plan. An especially nice element of working with him has been his suggestion of other helpful ideas, beyond what we knew about. For instance, he installed pest sprinklers to ward off animals that like to munch in our yard. He and his crew have showed up on time for each visit with proper tools and supplies. They worked solidly until completion of the task at hand. I'd recommend Utrilla's with no hesitation. read more

I have used Utrilla Landscaping for many projects and they always come through with great work and a great price! Thank you!

Jose jumped on this simple but crucial repair -- on a day I was overwhelmed with other emergencies. He responded swiftly, came by with all needed tools in hand, and had that irrigation leak fixed in a flash -- for the right price too. Fast, reliable, responsive -- is there more you could ask? I'm definitely going to work with these folks on a major system overhaul that's been pending for too long. I trust this man. He has a good heart and he knows how to get 'ur done! read more

In short: Helpful recommendations, great communication, transparent, friendly, and fast work! Bought a new construction home that has a sideyard that came with just a concrete slab in front of the patio doors and all dirt. We used Utrilla's Landscape to install a paver walkway from the slab to the gate. JP was able to work with our availability to make this installation happen within a quick timeline we needed. JP was able to schedule an on site consultation on the weekend of the same week we connected. The consult was done by JP and Tony who provided helpful recommendations on materials, low maintenance upkeep, and worked with our budget. After the consult, JP sent over an online quote that listed the pricing and exact work to be done. The installation was completed in one day that fit our schedule perfectly. JP was very quick to respond to text messages and phone calls to keep me updated and answer any questions I had. We will be reaching out for any future landscape work. read more

Great work! On time. Very professional. Will be referring contractor to friends and family for sure

I couldn't be happier with the work Jose and his crew have done for us. It is so great to find a reliable and honest company that is versatile enough to do several different types of work. They transformed our backyard by adding gravel beds, removing the old lawn, completely redoing the sprinkler system (including adding new valves) and installing sod. Jose is extremely responsive to any questions and concerns and gets right back to you by phone or in person and that is a great quality for a business owner. - Andrea W read more

Jose and his crew did a great job repairing my sprinkler system. They were extremely efficient and knowledgeable. Jose patiently answered all of my questions and addressed all of my concerns in a very professional, courteous manner. Their prices were very reasonable and the work was performed in a very timely manner. Now it is approximately 6 months after they repaired my sprinkler system, and it is still working absolutely perfectly. I highly recommend Utrillas Landscape & Irrigation. Total bait and switch. Came out and gave an estimate for work and set dates. Jose came out a total of 3 times, only once did they come when they were supposed to. This is a huge pain as I have a dog and a locked gate so I need to make arrangements each time they say they're going to come out. Here are the excuses he had for not coming when scheduled. 1. Family emergency 2. Hit by a car 3. Forgot to bring their tools 4. Stuck at another job site 5.Thinks they have Covid 6. Forgot about appointment. When they did actually make it out to do the trimming they did not do what was previously agreed to do. To their credit they would eventually come back out and trim the vines but I had to consistently check their work and schedule times for them to return. Then we were having a pool built so they didn't want their guys to come for safety reasons which of course is understandable. The pool is just being completed and I needed an estimate to level the lawn and put in sprinklers so we made an appointment for 4. 4:10 arrives I text him and it's obvious he forgot so I cancelled the appointment as I had to leave and couldn't wait indefinitely for him to arrive. I tell him just give me an estimate when you come out for the regular work. He says ok but just to let you know the work we already agreed upon has gone up in price. I ask how much and HE RAISED THE PRICE 50%. It's pretty obvious they came in with a low price and I get the job with the intentions of raising the price once they had an agreement. I wanted to share my experience so people know when hiring this company not only is it going to be a huge headache but that they will not honor their price once they think they have you. Needless to say I cancelled with them and will be looking elsewhere. read more

JP is a nice guy, but he lacks follow through and customer service after the job is "done". I wasn't satisfied with the end job. I hired JP and his assistant to fill in an old planter box with concrete. I have attached before and after photos for a point of reference. The new concrete pour isn't level with the existing concrete; therefore making it a tripping hazard and creates water build up. I have asked JP multiple times to come back and fix this issue, but he keeps putting it off or doesn't commit to setting a date and time. After speaking with other concrete specialists, they said the new pour would need to be removed and poured again to make sure it's level with the existing concrete..... which is costing me more money in the end. read more

I have been having issues with my sprinkler system so replaced my control unit based on the advice of my gardener - which still didn't fix the problem. I set out to get a quote on Yelp and JP from Utrilla's responded within 5 minutes of my writing up the project. JP was extremely prompt, and came by within 30 minutes to do a walkthrough and see what the initial diagnosis could be- he patiently worked through each of my zones manually first to see whether the water was on/off, pressure high/low, etc. In the end he determined it was likely a wiring issue and diligently tried re-wiring the existing harness zone by zone. Boom! Turns out the control wire was at fault and it was a quick fix. 15 minutes later, the system was back online. JP was gracious in saying this was meant to be a diagnosis so he didn't want to dictate payment- I tried to be mindful of the fact that I had taken his time during the holidays and gave him a fair tip as a show of appreciation. More importantly, if I ever have any other issues with my landscaping, Utrilla's will be my first call- fair, personable, knowledgeable and methodical- everything you want from a lawn care professional! Would highly recommend! read more

JP was great. He responded quickly and came by to give me an estimate on some underground plumbing work for my pool filler. It is worth noting, that I tried getting quotes from a handful of other landscaping companies and none were up for the job. JP showed up right at our scheduled time and gave me a fair estimate for the work. He came back a few days later (right on time, again!) and performed the work, exactly how I wanted it. He was very communicative easy to work with. I'll be using him again in the future. read more

I'm very disappointed with the professionalism of this service company, especially after reading all these 15 positive 5-star Yelp reviews. Let me explain...... On 2/9/22 (Wed.), after providing job/work needs here on Yelp, Mr. Utrilla answered quickly by scheduling an appmt. for free estimate on 2/14/22 (Mon.) @ 12:30 pm. I agreed. But since no one show up (or contacted me earlier), I immediately called Mr. Utrilla who said he "forgot" as he was very busy that morning, and apologized. Okay, I understand this can happen. So, he re-scheduled for same week on 2/16/22 (Wed.) @ 10:00 am. Again, no show but this time I didn't bother to call him back (i.e. two strikes). Instead, on next day, I sent him a Yelp message asking what happened and so far no response as of today. read more

I am very happy with the work JP did in fixing the leak in my old irrigation pipe. He arrived promptly, surveyed the job and gave me a price which was reasonable. We had 25-year old landscaping with a terrible lawn and a large olive tree in our back yard. After interviewing 10+ landscapers (who all disappeared after sometimes giving us an estimate) we found Jose at Utrilla's. He gave us a reasonable estimate and we hired him. We could not have done better. He did everything we agreed including concrete work, demo'ing a brick bbq, removing the olive tree and replacing our lawn and sprinkler system. What makes Jose different is that he takes PRIDE in his work and RESPONSIBILITY for the outcome. His crew was equally dedicated. He keeps you updated as to the progress and regularly asks questions to ensure you're getting what you want. We are so impressed with him that we've hired him to be our regular gardener and have asked him for estimates on additional work. read more
