I first used Utrilla's when I wanted to install a drip system to my front and backyard several years ago. I bid out the project and JP was the most fair and detailed bid I received. He and his team did a wonderful job with the installation and I have been using his company for my irrigation and landscaping needs ever since. When I added an ADU to our backyard, the contractors really tore up our planters. He helped to relocate as many plants as possible to another area and install a temporary barrel system until a new drip system could be installed. We are now moving forward with reinstalling the new system and adding pathway and landscape lighting. For peace of mind, he warranty's his work. In addition to the big projects, he has helped with smaller repairs as well. He is thoughtful in how he approaches the projects so they are completed efficiently while being cost effective. This is a repost and an update to a previous post. JP started a job for me in February, and I terminated the relationship in March. His communication was terrible, his team did not show up when he said he would, he had me spend money on materials that were not correct, and he hid demo from other projects into mine, so I would pay for the disposal. When I confronted him, and after a lot of excuses, he did remove the demo materials from the other job (at least some of it). What little work he did for me was incredibly poor quality and I need to have it all redone. I took him to small claims court in August, we settled in mediation, but he did not pay me back any of the money we agreed upon, and then disappeared. In October 8, 2024 JP and his crew completed the installation of new Hunter irrigation sprinklers in the front and backyard of my home. The crew was focused on the job and completed in 3 days. JP is professional, explained the details of the job on the contract . The system is digital so the app on our iPhones helped us monitor or change schedules real time, on line. The sprinklers are functioning and amazing. The newly seeded lawn is looking forward to a healthy well watered grass. I can always call on JP for any questions and assistance . JP and his team are great. We hired them to install French drains on the side of our property, because our existing drainage system was not sufficient to deal with the amount of rain we have received this season. JP quickly responded to our request on Yelp and came out to provide us with a drainage plan and estimate, which was very competitive. The team showed up on time and did a fabulous job. During the construction of the new drainage, he found some damaged pipes and came up with a way to bypass our air conditioning unit and connect the new drainage to the old system without trenching underneath the unit. read more

I had hired JP and his team to complete some tree trimming and general landscape and lawn cleanup work for me a couple of weeks ago, but the rain storm came, and we decided to push those projects off for sometime. I reached out to JP after the storm, because I needed an even bigger project to get completed - a complete install of a French drain system, and re-grading of a huge area of my property and backyard. Even though I wasn't technically an existing client already, JP made time to come over and complete this project Within an accelerated timeframe, making sure that my drains would be in place before any more rain came. A hefty price for this kind of work is to be expected. It's not cheap work. But the drains that they installed are functional and very high-quality work, and JP made sure every step of the way that I knew what was going on, and even suggested some additional ways in which I might be able to manage heavy rainwater on my property going forward. Bought a new construction home that has a sideyard that came with just a concrete slab in front of the patio doors and all dirt. Total bait and switch. Came out and gave an estimate for work and set dates. Jose came out a total of 3 times, only once did they come when they were supposed to. This is a huge pain as I have a dog and a locked gate so I need to make arrangements each time they say they're going to come out. Here are the excuses he had for not coming when scheduled. 1. Family emergency 2. Hit by a car 3. Forgot to bring their tools 4. Stuck at another job site 5.Thinks they have Covid 6. Forgot about appointment. When they did actually make it out to do the trimming they did not do what was previously agreed to do. To their credit they would eventually come back out and trim the vines but I had to consistently check their work and schedule times for them to return. Then we were having a pool built so they didn't want their guys to come for safety reasons which of course is understandable. The pool is just being completed and I needed an estimate to level the lawn and put in sprinklers so we made an appointment for 4. 4:10 arrives I text him and it's obvious he forgot so I cancelled the appointment as I had to leave and couldn't wait indefinitely for him to arrive. I tell him just give me an estimate when you come out for the regular work. He says ok but just to let you know the work we already agreed upon has gone up in price. I ask how much and HE RAISED THE PRICE 50%. It's pretty obvious they came in with a low price and I get the job with the intentions of raising the price once they had an agreement. I wanted to share my experience so people know when hiring this company not only is it going to be a huge headache but that they will not honor their price once they think they have you. JP is a nice guy, but he lacks follow through and customer service after the job is "done". I wasn't satisfied with the end job. I hired JP and his assistant to fill in an old planter box with concrete. I have attached before and after photos for a point of reference. The new concrete pour isn't level with the existing concrete; therefore making it a tripping hazard and creates water build up. I have asked JP multiple times to come back and fix this issue, but he keeps putting it off or doesn't commit to setting a date and time. After speaking with other concrete specialists, they said the new pour would need to be removed and poured again to make sure it's level with the existing concrete..... which is costing me more money in the end. read more

I have been having issues with my sprinkler system so replaced my control unit based on the advice of my gardener - which still didn't fix the problem. I set out to get a quote on Yelp and JP from Utrilla's responded within 5 minutes of my writing up the project. JP was extremely prompt, and came by within 30 minutes to do a walkthrough and see what the initial diagnosis could be- he patiently worked through each of my zones manually first to see whether the water was on/off, pressure high/low, etc. In the end he determined it was likely a wiring issue and diligently tried re-wiring the existing harness zone by zone. Boom! Turns out the control wire was at fault and it was a quick fix. 15 minutes later, the system was back online. JP was gracious in saying this was meant to be a diagnosis so he didn't want to dictate payment- I tried to be mindful of the fact that I had taken his time during the holidays and gave him a fair tip as a show of appreciation. More importantly, if I ever have any other issues with my landscaping, Utrilla's will be my first call- fair, personable, knowledgeable and methodical- everything you want from a lawn care professional! On 2/9/22 (Wed.), after providing job/work needs here on Yelp, Mr. Utrilla answered quickly by scheduling an appmt. for free estimate on 2/14/22 (Mon.) @ 12:30 pm. I agreed. But since no one show up (or contacted me earlier), I immediately called Mr. Utrilla who said he "forgot" as he was very busy that morning, and apologized. Okay, I understand this can happen. So, he re-scheduled for same week on 2/16/22 (Wed.) @ 10:00 am. Again, no show but this time I didn't bother to call him back (i.e. two strikes). Instead, on next day, I sent him a Yelp message asking what happened and so far no response as of today. read more
