I took my son in to get a prescription update and when it was updated we bought new lenses for his glasses. He also got a new contact prescription and i asked optical dept to print off his new prescription. They refused and said they had to order a trial pair before they would print prescription. I waited 5 days for that trial to come in and then asked for the prescription to be printed off and they again refused to print his prescription because he had to wear the trial pair for a week before they would print it off. In the meantime i am still waiting weeks for lenses and my son got into an accident where he both broke his frames and lost them. I explained this to the optical dept and they assured me the warranty would cover the frames. A month later i still do not have the full glasses set and when i called the optical dept said they were in back order and it will be another 2- 4 weeks from the manufacturer. I talk with the supervisor and find out they ordered the wrong frames. New frames are ordered now (1 month later) and i am told the warranty would cover them. This started in April and i come now in June to pick up the warranty covered pair and the optical dept asks for glasses frames that were broken. I previously explained multiple times that they were lost in the mtn bike accident that landed my son in the ER. They now tell me i have to pay for the frames. Worst service ever and my son is -4 in one eye and -8 in the other. I barely get both his contact prescription (they also printed the wrong one) and set of new glasses (they assured me warranty would cover) in June when the initial appointment was in April. Completely incompetent staff who never listened to the situation that was explained to them multiple times. I have come here 11 years with my son and was told by one of the staff members "i have been here 2 years and it's always been this way". Well i have come here 11 years and used the warranty and never had to bring back the broken frames. I was barely able to order contacts from another store because they held my son's prescription hostage and refused to print it off when asked multiple times. If you want your prescription 1+ months later then this optical dept is the place for you. read more

I recently moved to Bountiful and was looking for an ophthalmologist for an ongoing, life long, condition that involves my eyes. I told the doctor at UEC that I have had adverse reactions to a medication. He stated, his procedure is text book, implying the other doctor I had gone to for years in Provo did not use text book procedures. Since the injection I have been off work for over three weeks and was referred to a corneal specialist at UEC. When my daughter went with me to a follow up appointment, before being referred to the corneal specialist, the initial doctor, that injected the medication, said, "I have never seen a reaction this bad." I told him, "Maybe not all patients are text book." Yesterday the corneal specialist removed a protective contact lens that had partially adhered to my eye with forceps. It hurt. I didn't over react, just said ouch twice. The doctor said, "I put a numbing drop in your eye, so" So, what? I imagined the pain? A new lens was put in place and I was told to come back in two weeks. So far I have had seven visits because of this incident. I will finish the follow up treatment elsewhere. There is a culture of arrogance and lack of respect that starts at the top and goes down to the staff, at least at the Bountiful location. The staff at the Ogden location is great. If you miss a doctor's appointment or are late, most doctor's will drop you as a patient, but in return most doctor's offices are also respectful of the patient's time. UEC clinics are poorly managed. Plan on waiting along time and getting a dose of eye rolling and attitude. That might be tolerable if the care was excellent, even good. These are your EYES! The take away here, "You know yourself better than anyone, don't hesitate to walk, sooner rather than later. Your health and welfare depends on advocating for yourself." So back in 2021 I decided to make an appointment at Utah Eye Centers. Everyone in my family goes there and they had all had great experiences. My family sees Dr. Hansen and loves him. I ended up seeing Dr. Bullard and all these years later I am STILL devastated about what happened. I know it's been 3 years but I feel like I need to speak up. So I want to start off by saying I have surfers eye and at the time I went in to see Dr. Bullard I was squinting a lot and having a hard time seeing lights when I drove at night. I was constantly getting headaches because I couldn't see words far away and had to squint and I assumed it was connected to the surfers eye. So I saw Dr. Bullard in October 2021. I had just lost my job due to the pandemic and I was about to lose my vision insurance. I made sure Dr. Bullard knew this and knew that if I needed surgery or glasses I needed them in the next 2 months before I lost my insurance. This was it, I didn't know when I would have vision insurance again and so I needed help right then and there. He examined my eyes with a little lens and said they looked fine to him and that at this stage we couldn't do anything about my surfers eye so I should be on my way. I told him that I felt like I needed an eye exam because the lights were hurting my eyes and I was squinting. He straight up wouldn't give me one. He kept asking if things were blurry. I told him they weren't necessarily blurry, but I was having a hard time seeing details and the light really hurt my eyes. After going back and forth like this for about 5 minutes he just refused to give me a vision exam, even though he knew I was about to lose insurance. Fast forward to now. I still don't have vision insurance and going to the eye doctor is very expensive. But after having lights hurt my eyes all of these years I finally decided to see the Costco eye doctor this past week. Turns out I have an astigmatism of -3 in both eyes. You read that right, and I've probably had it for YEARS. It's probably gotten worse over the past year or so, but had Dr. Bullard just given me a regular vision exam like I was asking him to we would have caught this YEARS ago. So I spent $350 on the eye doctor and getting my first pair of prescription glasses. And now I just spent another $200 on prescription sunglasses. All this time I couldn't see and I had no idea. When I told this to the doctor at Costco this past week she said that I needed to speak up and tell Utah Eye Centers because any competent Doctor would have known that it's not normal to have to squint to see everything. She told me that the secretary already suspected I had an astigmatism just based on my symptoms, and here was a qualified doctor who went to medical school who wouldn't even give me a basic eye exam because things were't "blurry". I really hope someone at Utah Eye Centers reads this and has a sit down with Dr. Bullard. When I put on my glasses and could see I couldn't help but cry because I hadn't realized everything I was missing out on. Dr. Bullard should have diagnosed me years ago, but instead he refused because I was his last appointment of the day and he wanted to get home. Dr. Bullard, please feel free to send an apology card or a check in the mail. Absolutely horrible service they put you on internal hold plays music and they don't give a s*** about their customers they need investigated by DOGE, I was told they would contact me a few days ahead of my appointment for an exact and precise time of an operation not only did they not call me but now I spent 9 minutes on the phone one time 6 min another time and five on another time waiting on hold .. avoid this facility at any cost if they're this horrible about answering their damn phone imagine what kind of surgical help you're going to receive they just don't give a damn. I was referred to see Dr Wilcox regarding my cataracts. The staff were very professional. The person doing the eye exam was outstanding, and I was scheduled for surgery. I have been wearing glasses since I was 15. I knew there was a necessary gap between surgeries on each eye, and I had one of the lenses on my backup pair of glasses replaced with plain glass. Surgery was completed, and after a couple of weeks, I could actually read with my left eye, which I had not been able to do for some time. After the right eye surgery was completed, I am glasses-free and see 20/15. Dr Wilcox and staff were very attentive and very pleasant to deal with. No pain at any time and I received several phone follow-ups from the surgical center as well as the Utah Eye Centers as well. read more

I was here for over 3 hours, and much of that was just sitting and waiting. I was seen by Dr Wilkins for some eye pain/strain I was having. I had a lot of tests done and the whole time he didn't act confident. He kept shrugging his shoulders when I'd ask him things. Then he said he needed to do some close up testing but he couldn't because they already dilated my pupils. So, he said come back tomorrow. I was like, seriously? Can you not be organized enough to know not to dilate till the end? Instead making me pay for 2 visits? Was not happy about that. So I came back the next day. He did more tests and it was still uncomfortable talking to him. He ended up telling me to go pick up some glasses I could supposedly find at the store. And then he said maybe I just would need to change my dream job and not look at a computer so much... I was extremely frustrated that he would say something like that to make me feel no hope, when he hadn't even tried anything to fix the problem yet! So unimpressive to me and it bothered me so much. Anyway, I went to the store to get the glasses he said I could find. Come to find out he didn't even know what he was talking about and no stores carried what he said...At this point I was done with him... I ended up going to a doctor in a different practice to get a second opinion and my experience was world's better! He tested me for the stuff Dr. Wilkins had prescribed for me and found the lenses would've been way too blurry and not at all what I needed (why he didn't test them on me in his office before suggesting it? No clue.) My new doctor quickly found that I have astigmatism.. He said it was very clear to him and he prescribed me some glasses to help (Dr. Wilkins never said anything about that). All in all, I do not recommend Dr. Wilkins. Save yourself time and money and go a different route with someone better. read more

Do not go here unless you have a lot of extra time in your day because you will be waiting around. I'm disappointed that I didn't read the other reviews before I made an appointment here. My daughter and I arrived early for her appointment, filled out all of the required paperwork and waited in the waiting area for roughly 30 minutes before they took us back to the exam room where we waited for an additional 50 minutes. I finally walked out of the room and asked one of the staff how much longer we should anticipate since my daughter was going to be late for work. She indicated that we still had another 20 minutes or longer to wait. We ended up leaving and I didn't even bother to request a refund on my copay (which probably would've taken another 30 minutes). It appears, based on my experience and other reviews, that this office has a pattern of overbooking without having adequate resources to cover. Obviously, this leaves patients with a horrible experience and no desire to return. We recently moved here from out of state and were looking for a new family Optometrist. If that's you too - a bit of advice: keep looking! read more

I had cataract surgery on both eyes. Dr. Wilcox and his staff were wonderful! They were very professional and friendly, as well. Dr. Wilcox was very patient with me when I had "crazy" questions or concerns. On surgery day(s), the staff made me feel comfortable amidst my nervousness. They billed medical insurance instead vision service plan VSP when eye exam should be free, then next 2 months they started to harrass me with weekly sending text to pay medical bill - that was wrong because of their employee missed info on my insurance card that I have VSP. I physically visited them again to remind that I have VSP but later I got mail from collector to pay medical services which I did NOT get!!! Collector charged interest, fees etc. Fraud. This place has no idea of what an appointment means. I had three appointments and waited over 45 minutes each time for the doctor. Very disappointed. Dr. Wilkins is fine, but his front office and especially his billing team misrepresented the insurance plans they accepted, billed for services that were far in excess of what other optometrists charge, and then sent my account to collections. When contacted they refused to work with me. This kind of practice is exactly why health care costs in America are spiraling out of control. BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT BUY GLASSES FROM THIS CLINIC. Nicole who is the manager of the eyewear department is not the friendly sort with a complete lack of customer service. I purchased a pair of 800.00 glasses and was told emphatically there was a 2-year warranty. In fact, Nicole and I put the warranty expiration date in my phone calendar as I finished the purchase. Turns out the pair I purchased has a one-year warranty, the glasses are chipped and need to be replaced and they refused the request. I believe a company should stand by what they say, even when they make a mistake. They offered me an at-cost replacement, but I declined and instead opted to write a review of my experience. The aggressive rude attitude from Nicole was exactly how you never want to be treated especially when your family has been buying eyewear at high dollar costs from one place for many years. I went in to have a regular eye exam. Dr Paul ordered an eye test and when we went in for the test they said the machine was not working and it would be working shortly. While waiting I was looking at frames, they came out and said that the machine would not be up and running for awhile. The assistant said that Dr Paul said that I really didn't need the test. I picked out frames for sunglasses. After getting home and looking at my bill, I was not told that each lens would cost me $300 and that the tinting was another $300 plus the frames. I called the next morning to cancel my glasses. I was told there was no refund (all sales final). I will never go back, they are a rip off. read more

I was very frustrated with my visit today. I typically see Dr. Wilcox who used to operate in the building across the street. He was booked up for a few weeks so I decided to see a different doctor for a regular eye exam, as well as to address some minor vision issues I've been having for the past year. I am a type one diabetic, and have been repeated to by multiple doctors that my diabetes will affect my vision. I have known this for 15 years. I keep it in check. I know how my body works and when things go wrong, it's not always attributed to my diabetes. Today I was examined, no signs of diabetic toll on my eyes (shown in the blood vessels, mine were in perfect shape) and a stigmatism was found on my left eye (eye is more egg shaped than round, which usually means a prescription can be utilized). Instead of offering me a prescription or even another solution, I was sat down and "explained" how diabetes works in affecting my eyes... like I've known for years. I was told my problems were due to me not handling my diabetes, and if just tried harder, my eye problems would go away. Hmmm that's funny, I don't remember booking an appointment to a diabetic doctor, I wanted relief for my eyes. I felt I wasn't taken seriously and now I have to go through the process again to either see Dr. Wilcox again or find another center altogether. I think it's unprofessional to be medically disregarded as soon as staff finds out I'm a diabetic, instead of offering me the same relief solutions they'd offer anyone else. read more
