I drove in to drop off my mail and when I went to check in on Yelp the location didn't even exist. Now I know why no one was here because if its not on Yelp, then it doesn't exist. So look out US Postal workers because you've been listed and the Yelpers are coming. We're also gonna ask you to weigh packages. Ha! This place was completely empty. I can't stand going to Chicago post offices anymore because it usually takes 45 minutes to get in and out. So it would be worth it for me to drive here and back to Chicago in order to mail my packages. I found it funny that it closes at 4:30pm on Mon to Fri but my mail is picked up at 5pm inside. Is there a party going on for that half hour? How do I get in to the locked building to drop off my mail, after 4:30? Why wouldn't they just list mail pick up at 4:30pm? See these are questions Yelpers need the answer to. Well welcome to the world of social media US Post Office location. Then we moved to Winthrop Harbor. The postal workers at the Winthrop Harbor Post Office are the friendliest you will find. They welcome you with a smile, actually talk to you and provide exceptional service. The postal carriers talk to you if you're out in your yard and will even bring your mail to the door if it is bad weather. I have never had a bad experience in the 4 years we live here. This post office should be used as a model for other post offices.

The man scanned my return QR code and said it needed to be in a shipping bag and said "I could sell you some bags" when I asked why I can't use the clear polybags he said they don't have them. I then gestured at the woman using the self service station where the poly bags are free and asked why not those he said he's going to turn that off because they are not free? Every ups store I've been to you just scan your code it prompts you to pick out of the two sizes of poly bags and you drop your items in the box with the tag on it. He also said no store does that with the bags. So confused. Sorry you're not going to "sell me some bags" for free UPS returns. What a joke! UPDATE: I just went to the round lake location and processed my returns FOR FREE! Perhaps this guy just wanted to make a quick buck lol

The line, if there ever is one, is rarely more than two. Things move quickly, but you don't feel rushed. The postal people offer advice on best package rates, and arrival dates. They are very accommodating when I can't decide which new stamp style I want to buy, and show me everyone i ask about. The downtown post office is a little bit closer to my location, but I really do prefer Somers Post Office.

I went in person to see if someone could resolve my issue and got told that the "boss" was "in a meeting" and would call me back; I have yet to receive any call back. Incompetent and absolutely lazy barely describes the staff there. Surely, the USPS can fine tune how postal services are conducted.

I had a pleasant experience with obtaining a passport here as well. The process seems lengthy but the associates give you everything you need to successfully obtain a passport. I didn't rush mine and received it in about 2 weeks. They even return your original birth certificate that you have to send them for review. I also appreciate the convenience of a 24hr self service shipping center. Send misc packages, maybe something you sold on ebay 24 hrs a day!

There's always only one person working even though they have three registers available. Unlike every other post office in the US that has a designated space for pre-postage drop offs. This one has a sign on the counter that stating that you cannot. I'm a small business owner, I don't need to stand in line for 45 minutes during my lunch just to drop off a package that I already did all of the work on.
