Hey Yelp, it's a Postal EMPORIUM, not a Post Office. I'm not sure why they call it an emporium, but…read moreit may have to do with the fact that it closed for lunch between 12:45 and 2:00 and unlike most normal locations, they don't open at all on Saturdays. As far as I can tell one woman runs the whole show here. Because of that there's almost always a line, but she's great as her job so it moves fairly quickly. Despite the lack of manpower this is a full service retail location, not merely a pickup/dropoff point. You can ship packages anywhere in the world, buy money orders and stamps etc. The line can get long, especially right before the 12:45 shutdown. If all you're doing is dropping off a pre-labeled package, you might want to consider the 21st and Leavenworth location.

Ah the post office. A place few people get excited to go, but a common stop for many. I don't know…read moreabout you, but most of my thoughts about post offices aren't exactly bright and cheery - long lines, grumpy employees, and frustratingly confusing shipping options spring to mind. Thankfully, the Post Office at 16th and Farnam is a refreshing change from these stereotypes! The two regular employees are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they get to know their regulars, which I really appreciate. Tammy in particular is always super cheerful. They also move the line along as quickly as possible, and are always apologetic if things drag (not necessary, but appreciated!). Furthermore, any time I've had questions or been uncertain about they best way to ship something, they've always cheerfully offered helpful suggestions. My only criticism is that they have relatively short hours, and are not open on Saturdays. This means I either need to slip out of work or go to to a different post office when I want to ship something. Personally, I'd rather play hooky from work than go somewhere else.

Getting in and out of the post office is always a breeze. The line always moves at a decent speed, as well. This is the closest Omaha post office to me and I don't have any issues going back.

My needs were met - I needed to mail a document, but I didn't have a stamp or even an envelope at hand. So I went and got that taken care of. There was a bit of a wait, as there were only two people working at the counter, and one of them was busy helping people with passports and things like that. One of those customers was irritated (understandably) as she had come in at her appointed time to get a passport. And was informed here that the machine to take the pictures (a camera?) was broken, so she would have to go to Walgreens or somewhere to get one. There is not a Walgreens or anything for miles around here. The customer said that she had specifically come to this particular post office because it is the one that offers this service. As I went outside, I did notice that the banner in front indeed says that that service is offered here. Also outside, I observed a lady walk over to the drive-up mailboxes to put a letter in. I had seen her inside trying to do that. There is a slot to drop letters in inside. But I think it's not labeled clearly; I recall coming outside like that to mail a letter. On this visit, though, since I got the envelope and the stamp, I was able to take care of all this at the counter.

I was in and out within less than half an hour. It's a good idea to ask questions about what you need before you plan to start the process. William gave me the forms I needed the day before so I filled them out at home. Some people do the process online, but I wasn't able to figure out where the forms were online. I already had my picture so I didn't need to do that. Add in some expertise at the process on the part of William, and the papers are in the mail.

And to be clear, I am rating the experience at the post office building at 2609 Victoria Avenue, not the delivery service to my home (which has also varied greatly over the years). Since my last several visits over the last year have all have all resulted in good to excellent service experience, I'm putting more weight on the recent trips than some of the horrible experiences I've had in the past. The difference is some of the obviously burnt out/stressed out clerks that worked at this location are gone, and new employees who are a lot more customer friendly are now working with customers. On my latest visit, I was amazed to see that there was absolutely nobody in line, which I have never experience before at any post office. The employee who served me was friendly and efficient. I appreciate that the USPS now accepts contactless payments and have worked out most of the bugs with their online tracking system. I do as much of my correspondence digitally as possible, but some things I still need to do at the USPS, so it's nice that service is improving.

Brian, a Senior Customer Care Rep, was helpful in getting both services removed quickly. I appreciated that the process could be handled over email without needing to call. That said, I was later told by Rhea that no refund or credit would be issued because these services were supposedly added during a phone call back in 2020. I do not recall knowingly enrolling in them, and it is concerning that something with ongoing monthly charges can be added so easily and then remain on an account for years without clear visibility. Situations like this should not come down to whether a customer happens to catch it years later. There should be better transparency and clearer confirmation when optional paid services are added. As for the Electrical Line Protection plan itself, it is marketed as protection but is really a limited service contract with caps and exclusions. For the monthly cost, the value is not there, especially for a newer home. The core utility service works fine, but this experience left me double checking everything on my bill, which is probably something more customers should be doing.
