If you are not prepared please step aside. If you come with a rude attitude please be prepared to get it back. If you need help - just ask. I love this method of handling business. You can't be in a rush and have no clue what you need. The small space is normally packed. Let the associates calm down the lines and they give you plenty of one on one personalized service. Then when you come back, you'll be one of those people that quickly gets through the line or laughs at the impatient people that want to rush and be rude. Lake Worth is ...interesting. I love this historic 1940 Post Office located in the historic district on Lucerne Ave in Lake Worth. It was built as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelts New Deal, the plan to put Americans back to work to get the country out of the Great Depression. Also part of the New Deal, Roosevelt hired artists and sent them out across the country to paint murals in 1.200 post offices. It gave the artists a job and the community something to look at. Palm Beach received three of the artists to decorate their post offices. They painted scenes unique to Florida that included palm trees and alligators. What is really cool about the Lake Worth post office art is you can still see it hanging in the historic post office it was created for. The Palm Beach Barefoot Mailman paintings were moved from it's post office to a facility built in the 80's and the post office at 95 N. County Road in Palm Beach has been sold and is no longer owned by the government so you can't just walk in to view the Seminole paintings. The Lake Worth art is called "Settler Fighting Alligator from Rowboat,". It is oil on canvas painted by artist Joseph D.Myers. The painting hangs on the west wall of the post office lobby. The painting was started in 1941 and completed in 1947. It depicts two pioneers with the aid of one really angry dog hunting an alligator in the Everglades. The artist Myers disagreed with the official in charge of the mural program who called it "disappointing" and "the dog is in no way convincing". Myer's reply was "to question the ability of any artist to get two pair of feet and a hound dog into a rowboat is a little short of insulting.' Despite the differing views about the piece Myer was paid a thousand dollars and the painting still hangs and the building still operates as a post office today. This small post office is hanging on strong, located smack in the middle of downtown Lake Worth, where pedestrians abound. When I lived downtown, I walked here all the time. There is no parking lot associated with this location, but you can park on Lucerne Ave directly in front of it, on J street adjacent to it, or across the street in the tiny municipal lot. The building is charming from the outside- is it historic? Not sure, but it was built in 1940. Inside, be sure to check out the mural on the west side of the lobby. Lake Worth is (proudly!) home to more than a few eccentrics, and the woman in front of me was no exception. A patient, calm, kind postal employee guided this over-anxious patron through some stress-reducing breathing techniques in order to help her complete her transaction. Quaint, old-fashioned post office built in 1940 in downtown Lake Worth Beach. I stopped in 2 weeks ago to mail a book for an online book swap. It was busy inside but the line moved quickly. Two things bothered me while I was there. There was a man with two dogs filling out forms to mail a package or some letters. The dogs were leashed but roamed around freely while the guy took care of his mail. I mean, the dogs walked all over the place by themselves. It is very small inside this building and was crowded. I saw many seniors and several families with small children inside. The dogs appeared friendly but someone could have been bitten or fallen because the owner of the dogs did not supervise them while he tended to his business. When did it get okay to bring dogs inside a post office? And let them run free?! The clerk at the window (I believe her name was Maria Teresa) became annoyed with me when I noticed that my book could have been mailed first class instead of media which would have saved me about 40 cents. I saw it pop up on the screen. When I asked, she dismissed my question but I know I was right. I don't need 40 cents that bad but I've belonged to the book club for a long time and am familiar with ways to save a little money when mailing books frequently. So I let the matter go, paid for the postage, and left. The person receiving the book had it delivered quicker than promised, so it ended well, I guess. read more

This post office is horrible, I frequently send packages to my family up north, using priority mail. The actual delivery time on one package was 2 weeks later than the promise, I have a package that was supposed to be delivered yesterday and it isn't even halfway there, going to a major city. Over the past 10 years, I have had nothing but Horrible Experiences with the Lake Worth Post Office. Court Hearings being missed because "Robin" the Carrier had THOUGHT I had moved out of my residence when I was STILL living there - NEVER did I receive my Civil Court Hearing Date Notice. I had gone online to see WHEN my Court Hearing was taking place - turns out it was the very next morning! I had to put in an EMERGENCY Request to arrange my hearing "Telephonically". Luckily, the request was accepted. However, "Mark", the Supervisor at that time, used the Clerk of the Courts as his Scapegoat - blatantly LYING that they NEVER mailed out the Official Notice of the Hearing. However, IN MY HAND, was the ENVELOPE, "RETURNED" to the Palm Beach Clerk of the Courts, with "MOVED", written on the front of the envelope. "Mark" finally shut his mouth and I informed him he could, and still could, be SUED. That was just the first error. read more

Mailed a package from LW Post Office, received tracking number and sent certified. Lost evidently. When I spoke to manager at LW, I was advised not scanned leaving LW and had no idea what happened. Did I insure. I thought it was, but if people did their jobs correctly, would not have to.
