If you haven't been before, the vibe at Raising Cains is fun - think disco balls and Elvis art with a crown on top. The counter folks were all friendly, and I wasn't expecting that they would deliver food to our table, but they did. The food at Raising Cains was good, but didn't live up to all the hype for me. No complaints about the food, it was good. But my expectations were fairly high after hearing lots of folks talk about it. The chicken was crispy and not greasy as fried food can be. The fries were good -not soggy and not overcooked. I'm still assessing my thoughts about the sauce. I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed by the taste, but I did keep going back to it and dipping my fries and chicken in it until it was all gone. So maybe I liked it more than I realized? I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars. This was a 35 minute drive for me, so I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to do this again because of the distance. But we had a good meal here and a pleasant experience.

All the meats you'd expect, except he's not doing the smoked chicken wings every day like they used to. I had the brisket, pork, and chicken today and it was great! Good seasoning on everything, and the sauces are really good. Alabama White is awesome on chicken, and the Smokey bbq and tangy Texas was perfect on the brisket. The sides are good too. Had the potato salad and cole slaw, both spot on. Tons of sand which options to choose from and good for vegetarians in the way of portobello and salad options. Being able To govern excellent customer service while working on other orders is tough, but he did it well. We got an order of garlic knots to share, and they're were hit or miss. They were well backed and coated with butter and garlic, but very unevenly, so some bites were really bland and some werereally garlicky. I asked for some marinara, but we didn't get any packed. I think sauce would have helped the bland knots. We also got the Grandma's Pizza which really seems to basically be a margarita (cheese and basil). My Wife and I both thought this was a very good pizza. The pizza itself had a taste that reminded me of childhood (I believe the cheese and sauce tasted very similar to the pizza I'd get at a community park and it immediately took me back to 10 years old). The crust was very good as it had that nice crispy crunch when you bite into it, but it was also very airy and still have a bit of chewiness. The only thing that was bad was the funnel cake (or funnel fries as they're cut like French fries) dessert part of the problem may be that I ordered a funnel cake like dessert and didn't eat it immediately. There was a very light dusting of Powdered sugar, and like the garlic knots, most of it got placed on just a small area, so most of the strips just tasted pretty bland. They also appeared to be cooked very unevenly as some strips were very soft or tough as leather. My Wife and I both would come back here for pizza, but we'd likely not get the garlic knots and I'd likely pass on the funnel cake.

We ordered a chili cheese dog with mustard and onions, a hot sausage with cheese, an order of…read morefries, and a bottle of Diet Pepsi. The total came to $14.79, which is an awesome lunchtime bargain. I honestly can't remember the last time I fed two people lunch for under $15. Major budget win. It had been 15+ years since my last chili dog from Jimmy's, so while running post-Christmas errands and finding ourselves nearby with no real timeline, we jumped on the opportunity. Things have definitely changed since my last visit. It's clear Jimmy's has dealt with some difficult customers over the years--numerous signs now ask folks to grab their food and head out. No eating inside, no public restrooms, and no replacing lost, stolen, or forgotten beverages or chips "due to a high rise in thefts and customer walk-outs." Back in the day, I remember a packed counter with customers chatting and eating. That era may be gone--but thankfully, the food hasn't changed where it matters most. My love for Jimmy's chili cheese dog remains completely intact. It's not the hot dog or the bun doing the heavy lifting here: simple white bun, basic hot dog, lots of onions and mustard. No, it's *that chili*. Good lawd, that chili. I don't know what magic is in it--maybe the greasy orange residue it leaves behind--but one bite instantly reminded me why Jimmy's holds such a special place in my heart. I demolished the entire thing in seconds, with only audible moans to signal that I had not, in fact, been transported to actual Food Heaven. The fries were a solid supporting act--thick-cut potatoes, perfectly fried, piping hot. They came unsalted, but salt packets were thoughtfully included in the to-go bag, so no real issue there. The portion size was bigger than expected for the price. The hot sausage with cheese was another win: perfectly grilled, slightly charred, and just spicy enough to satisfy. Served on the same basic white bun with American cheese, it was simple, classic, and done right. Plenty of free, on-site parking is available right out front since Jimmy's is located in a strip mall. Be sure to check the hours--6am to 4pm most days. Jimmy's won't satisfy a dinner chili dog craving, but it will absolutely fill your belly at lunchtime and leave you wanting more!
