MoMo's BBQ

Just got out the lab, was dehydrated and way pass lunch. Found MoMo's around the corner and wow, this was so delicious. Restored me and got me back on track. The original sauces were unbelievable. Highly recommend to stop by here!!!

Well. I wanted this to be a superstar experience. It was a complete bummer. I was a huge fan of MoMo's when they were downtown. I grabbed lunch to go, had lunch meetings, took my teams there for lunch, got takeout for dinner, etc. Never had any issues. I loved several of their dishes. The wings with the Alabama white sauce was my favorite dish. Today, hubby calls to tell me they have reopened in the Rossmoyne area. Since it was lunch time, I immediately drove to the new location. It's in a strip mall with a few other shops. The location is significantly smaller than the place they had in Harrisburg. There are about 4-5 booths that seat 4 people. When I walked in everything was taken so I got my food to go. The menu is much smaller than the old one. I'm posting photos for those who are interested. Unfortunately, they did not have the wings I loved from the last location so I opted for something different. I chose the 3 Little Pigs sandwich for $9. They handed me the sandwich in a bag, ready to go, and I stopped at the sauce station to get some white sauce. They warned me that the sandwich was "dry". That normally means it doesn't have any sauce and you need to add your own. What they failed to say was that "dry" meant dry (in the traditional sense) meaning everything was dried out. (I will upload photos.) The smoked sausage was shriveled like the hot dog that gets forgotten on the grill at the end of a picnic, and when you go to pack things up it's a wrinkled-up, dry, chewy thing. The bacon had almost no taste and by volume was about half a slice. The pulled pork tasted like it was made in a slow cooker then left in an oven for a few hours. Parts of it was like jerky. It required lots of chewing. Plus, a few pieces of the pork tasted completely burned. Not like the yummy burnt ends you get at BBQ places, but like actually burned to the point they made all of the pork taste bitter. So, at this point I was completely disappointed. My dreams were dashed. I wish I could provide a happy ending, but I can't. I thought the Alabama white sauce would wash away all my tears. I was wrong. It was so, so, so, so, so salty . . . if I was in the restaurant I would have gotten a different sauce. Unfortunately, it was the only sauce I had for the sandwich so I had to eat it. The sandwich was soooooo dry without it, it was hard to chew. I did have a small taste of the Sweet Mo's and the Tangy Texas sauces, and they were decent. I don't normally post so soon after eating a meal. I usually want to reflect for a while. However, I want to make sure the restaurant gets this feedback in the hopes they make adjustments. It is their first week at this location so I'm cutting them some slack. I really wanted to give the food a single star. However, the place is nice and the service was good so I decided at least 2 stars for now. Just to make sure I didn't just have an off day with my taste-buds, I let my husband taste everything except the bacon. He was also a big fan of the MoMo's in Harrisburg and after each bite of what I gave him today, his response was, "you actually ate that???"

2 meat platter. Cold and dry as heck pulled pork, rock hard brisket, soggy mushy green beans and ok slaw.

I've heard great things about Dad's Garage, so I decided to check it out on a solo Friday night…read morewhen I was seriously craving a good burger. I was hoping all the hype was true and maybe I'd even find a new spot to add to my breakfast places to try list -- but, spoiler alert, I won't be doing that. Pulled in around 5pm and found parking (miracle, since there are only about 4 or 5 spots). Inside, I was greeted right away and told to seat myself. The specials board out front caught my eye, so I went with the bacon cheeseburger croissant, upgraded my fries to chili cheese fries, and grabbed a Diet Pepsi. I was the only dine-in customer, but there was a steady flow of pickup orders. Still, a 20-minute wait for my food felt long considering it was just me sitting there listening to FM radio straight out of an 80's prom (hello, Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings"...literally). When my food finally arrived, the staff immediately realized they'd forgotten the chili cheese on the fries and whisked them back to fix it -- good save! The chili itself? Fantastic. Like, "I-need-this-on-a-hot-dog" fantastic. The fries, though...yikes. Grease was literally pooling and dripping through the basket like a leaky oil pan. The burger was fine -- solid flavor, but the proportions were off. Giant tomato and onion slices took over the show, and the croissant was way too big for the small patty. Loved the croissant idea, just needs a smaller bun or a bigger burger. Ended up eating the patty and ditching the salad-sized toppings and half the croissant. The check was the real surprise: $12.99 for the burger, $2.49 for the Diet Pepsi, and another $2.99 for the chili cheese fry upgrade -- plus a mysterious "conveenience Fee (2.99%)" for $0.55. Maybe time to run spell check before charging extra, Dad. All in all with tip, $20+ for a burger that didn't quite live up to the hype. It hit the spot for a burger craving, but not enough to make me a regular. Glad I gave it a try -- it's got potential and a great location (even if parking is a tight squeeze). But honestly, it might be time for Dad to roll up his sleeves, give the menu a tune-up, and maybe double-check that receipt printer while he's at it. Bottom line: Cool concept, great chili, and 80s prom tunes -- but for $20+, I expected a little more horsepower under the hood.

By the way, "Kimchee" is not a misspell; it's actually the Korean spelling to the more popularized Japanese spelling, "kimchi". Kimchi is a banchan/appetizer by itself but can accompany anything to kick it up a notch.  It's also a great source of probiotics. I most often add it to my rice dishes being Asian American and all, but I am looking forward to try it on a burger next time I get a chance -- a tip I just heard from Kevin the co-owner.  Joyce ("the" kimchee girl?) & Kevin operate their business with heart and soul and I won't hesitate to recommend that you to give their kimchi a taste. Kimchee Girl takes online orders for its kimchi products, but it also sets up tents outside of its office during the week and offers BBQ lunch boxes such as bone-in pork chops, kalbi short ribs, and (I haven't tried) Kimchee dogs. All of them of course feature their flagship Napa cabbage kimchi.  They also do pop-ups from time to time at events and farmers markets. You can also find their products locally in retail stores such as the Cornerstone Coffeehouse and the Healthy You Café.

Tatiana herself greeted us and sat us at a perfect table in the corner where we could look out at the restaurant. The food matched the first impression - presentation was superb! We started with the appetizer of chicken meatballs - 6 delicious bites to share. Flavor was on spot and the white sauce sweet yet savory. Next cam our dinners. Each served with soup (Ukranian borscht), lovely mixed salad, and homemade dinner rolls - to die for! We started with the Ukranian Ice Tea - and first for me. And now a staple! It had a hint of fruit tones, not too sweet, very cold, and refreshing! I had 2 glasses. We ordered the Ukranian Stew which comes with Ukrainian rice (another fabulous staple - I will add this as an additional side dish to any ongoing visits we make, it's that good). The sauce on the stew was perfectly seasoned as well - with a hint of cardamom and perhaps cinnamon? It was a perfect blend of savory with hint of sweetness to compliment the chicken, chicken sausage, beef tips, vegetables, and more that made up the stew. The sauce was worthy of a spoon to ensure every morsel was consumed - with bread to wipe the bowl clean! The portion sizes are generous as well. The second entre was the Colosseum Tortellini Combo with chicken, chicken sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers and cheese tortellini all tossed in a Asiago Alfredo Marinera sauce. A other enjoyable dish. While we did not have dessert, the selections looked equally scrumptious! We will try the pumpkin cheesecake when we return. This is a family run business. Ash is the Chef, Tatiana runs the front if the house. They have a second floor dinkng space that can seat up to 50! Great spot for special event or party. Even Tatiana's mother participates with her dessert baking. Both Ash & Tatian were delightful. It was like being invited to a friend's home for a feast! Highly recommend trying. I know we will return to try numerous other items on the menu.

After our dinners were finished, our server presented a beautiful platter of different cheesecakes. Yes please! I got the apple cheesecake and it was amazing. Not too sweet and very creamy. The outside seating is nice and quiet. I'd love to dine in again.

Having had my fair share of tacos, these are NEXT LEVEL. Perfectly grilled chicken with mozzarella, cilantro, onions, and lime! Who could ask for more!! The server even asked if I wanted a side of beef consommé, which I'm glad I said yes to. It was rich, savory, thick and perfectly paired even with the chicken option. Rolled into Mechanicsburg Breakfast & Pizzeria at the extremely conventional breakfast hour…read moreof...5pm on a Friday. I was the only diner in the place, which honestly made me feel like I had just rented out a private pizza studio. Bonus: plenty of free parking right out front because it's tucked into a little strip mall. Before I even ordered, the menu caught my attention--an eclectic mashup of pizza and tacos, with breakfast versions of both served all day long. It's honestly the kind of menu you'd expect to stumble upon in a dream where the universe says, "Go ahead, choose joy." I originally planned to be "responsible" and just grab a slice to test the waters, but they didn't have any slices ready and would've had to make an entire pizza just for me. That felt like a sign from the Universe to stop lying to myself. If they were firing up the oven anyway, why not go big? So I took the cosmic hint and ordered their semi-Instagram-famous Mexican Breakfast Pizza: eggs, chorizo, mozzarella, cheddar... a 10" "personal" pizza (their wording, not mine) for $14. Twist my arm. Drinks live in the cooler by the door and you just grab whatever you want and pay at the end. As I was mid-debate between soda and water, the guy behind the counter popped out from behind the curtain and said, "Hey, since you're getting a breakfast pizza, if you want juice... orange, cranberry, apple... you can have it!" Sir. Apple juice is basically the secret key to my heart. SOLD. He also mentioned they have games and coloring books available--apparently dominoes is the crowd favorite here. Unexpected and charming. A little sign on my table caught my eye: "If you love it, leave a nice review." Challenge accepted. This place was already earning every star. Placed my order at 5:02, snagged a seat by the window to watch the sunset fade and the traffic chaos whirl by. The sign on the wall said "GOOD vibes, GREAT flavors," and let me tell you: an accurate mission statement. At 5:20, my pizza emerged in all its glory--and it. was. stunning. The crust hit that sweet middle ground between thin and deep dish: sturdy, doughy, beautifully crisped on the edges, and wonderfully yeasty. The eggs-to-cheese ratio was perfection, and the chorizo? A knockout. Spicy, chunky, far more personality than the usual breakfast-pizza sausage situation. I ate 1.5 slices and boxed up the rest, which will easily feed me for another three days because, yes, I believe in leftovers as a lifestyle. As I was leaving, the man behind the counter introduced himself--Sebastian--and he had been nothing but attentive, kind, and genuinely invested in making sure I had a great experience. Service like that sticks with you. Total damage: $22.26 including tip. For great food, even better service, and days of leftovers? That's what I call winning. I'll definitely be back--probably at another totally normal breakfast hour.
