This is outside the scope of what I would normally review (of course, having said that, I only have…read moretwo reviews thus far and this begs the question of how one establishes 'normal' given such a minute sample size...but I digest), in spite of this I feel compelled due to various factors. First let me mention decor; this is actually a wonderful bit of architecture both inside and out. In fact, the gentleman who helped my girlfriend and I informed us that there is a similar work of art in Providence, RI (i.e. the post office is built upon the same model). No cookie-cutter P.O. here folks. A typical post office experience is probably most comparable to a day at the registry of motor vehicles (translated: yucky and lame); this is what I expected and was cranky and frankly dreading the need to get a passport for a little trip up the river to Canada (said need the topic of an entirely different soapbox sometime down the road perhaps). We were, however, treated to possibly the most friendly and enthusiastic postal clerk we have ever had the pleasure to work with; he made the inevitably painful experience bearable and eased us through, going above and beyond repeatedly, offering to take care of several steps that normally would have sent someone to the back of the line (or worse, home). We left feeling reassured and, in all honesty, awestruck by how refreshing the whole experience was. The take home message folks? Government employees do NOT have to be miserable to function and one's expectations need not be so low when contemplating a trip to the town Post Office.

Am I seriously about to review a post office??…read more Yes, our Saturday morning at the Palmer post office was so good that it warrants some praise. We needed passports (a first one for Ryan, and a renewal and name change for me), and we arrived -- "descended upon" would probably be more accurate -- with a rag-tag collection of applications in various states of completion, certified documents, and more questions than answers...including, can the passport fairy please make all of this happen in time for our trip to see my beloved Liverpool FC play in Toronto about a month from now. And by the way, we don't have photos and, oh yeah, surprise, I'm out of checks. I felt a little like one of those tourists in a foreign land who, unable to make sense of the currency, just hands over a wad of mystery money to a shop keeper and begs them to take what they need. I imagine most postal workers would have run for the hills, or slammed the window shut and declared that passport processing is done for the day please come back Monday when someone else will be working. But the young man at the Palmer post office on Saturday morning had some serious halo action over his head. He was kind, patient, understanding, and abundantly competent and helpful. He figured it all out, made sense of our paperwork, advised us on how to get the fastest turnaround in processing, took our photos, made a couple of phone calls to get answers that he didn't have, turned my debit card into the appropriate money orders, and even filled us in on some of the history of the building when he overheard us comment on how beautiful it was. Folks, it simply doesn't get any better than this.

Hi There, On Aug 24, 2024 letter at the lobby drop off box…read moreat 393 Belmont to NY. After a few weeks , it had come to my attention that the letter had not arrived. On their website , a missing mail form was initiated. On Sept, 25a household member contacted an employee at the local post office for an update. Even though the employee was polite and professional which was great, his answer appeared to be a training book answer of how to possibly prevent this from occurring again. We appreciate the already known information provided from the employee however, we were more interested in the letter being found and what the post office was doing to find it. The household member informed the employee that the letter was a check and the we were concerned and will cancel it. We have not yet heard of any progress. Oh yes and this is hilarious. A few days later when raining, I go out to the mailbox and observe a letter on the ground addressed to our neighbors, of course I made sure it went to the intended address. This was not the first time. To the USPS employees, Thanks for doing the hard and sometimes tedious work. May I ask all just to be a little more careful with the mail? Thank you, Mr. B
