If you are shipping something to your family or friend who lives in the area, I STRONGLY recommend…read morethat you ship Fedex or UPS over USPS. They have a really poor sorting and delivery system. Several packages over the years have shown "delivered" from the sender yet were not delivered to my box with either the package itself, a locker key, or a yellow card. I understand that due to staffing restrictions caused by financial restraints that they have little to no control over, that it is kind and helpful of me to wait until at least the next day after a package shows as "delivered" to allow staff time to sort incoming mail and deliver said mail to the boxes. I always do that and sometimes give several days and even a couple weeks sometimes, yet too often I have had to go to the counter without a yellow card to ask where my package that was delivered days ago is. Half the time they return from the back with no package while I pull up the proof of delivery on my phone to which they always return after another look in the back with my "missing" package. One time, I had an empty, but sealed, package delivered to me. Of course I inquired and was told by a newer staff member that a woman had "broken into" the post office that morning and must have opened my Sephora package, stolen the product, and then resealed the package, and redelivered it to my box. Sure, sure, sure. Whether that was true, or someone who works at the post office stole the item, we shall never know.

AVOID! This post office is a nightmare for receiving packages! They can go missing. No explanation…read more No recourse. Makes one wonder if NO over sight and poor procedures are to blame, or possibly THEFT within the branch?? It's especially hard if you live here full time. I have personally lost several packages, as recently January 2026, which was worth some money.

It is located on the hill as you pass through the small Point Arena downtown area. I did not spot a mailbox or a mail slot outside but the lobby was open and I was able to use the one inside. Picture yourself on the third day of a road trip, and having just stopped by a lighthouse to write…read moresome postcards, and you come across a Post Office. Of course you stop. Not only is this Post Office everything you would imagine from a picturesque small town, it probably already already featured in story written about it by at least a dozen novelists. Good, friendly service, and just a real hometown feel to it. So lets say you've mailed your postcards from the road to loved ones across the country then you hop back in the car. Transaction done, right? Wrong! Wrong because you've left your pencil case (for lack of a better term) behind but you don't realize it until you're outside San Francisco and you really can't go back. So you call. And guess what, they have your pencil case that holds all your pencils and that one super special pen that you "don't leave home without." How do they get it back to you? Well using their very own US Postal Service, of course. So that was my experience. The experience of a post-card writing nerd who left some pencils behind and had them mailed back to my home.

The clerk JON insists on mentioning this every time I go in. PETTINESS at the purest form. I am not amused and will be having a discussion with the POSTMASTER in the future. Take a look at the photos and tell me this isn't RIDICULOUS. I've noticed that JON has another unsavory review. Seems maybe JON needs to take a refresher course in CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Dear John, I had a passport appointment today at the…read moreCalistoga post office at 1:45pm. Before my appointment, I was hoping that I would not get you John as my passport agent. In the past you have been rude, negative & unhelpful. toward me. Once John, when I asked you how to get a change of address after my son's death & once again, John, when I wanted to know how to send Santa's Letters for the Soroptimists of Calistoga. But sure enough, I got you again today John and you did not disappoint. I had applied online & had all the copies I needed. Still you never acknowledged me John or even asked me if I was applying for a new, renewal, or lost passport. John you made me fill out a form that I had already filled out online & then halfway thru filling out the form, when I asked you a question, you told me not to fill out the form at all & just sign it. Then I asked you John if I could get a passport card & you said no because I didn't check that box on the form & that I would have to re-apply. At this point I would have paid anything just to get that box checked & get out of there. At the end of my application process John, you handed me a receipt & asked me to fill out a survey to let the post office know how you are doing. Well John, ( no customer skills person), I Won't Be Back Until You Go! A Calistoga resident hoping that my passport application will be processed
