Unsure why this location is poorly rated. Been coming here for years and they've always been quick and efficient. Sometimes I have questions and everyone's been knowledgeable. Dreaded coming here today, expecting a long line out the door for the holidays. Imagine my surprise to find a relatively short line (see photo). US Post Office - Short holiday line - Post Offices Near Me - San Diego, California

This place is always oddly busy. I usually come midweek, mid-morning to drop off packages or mail things off. All the customers seem miserable but the staff are quite the opposite. They are just humming along and working hard to keep the line short. When its my turn which is usually after about 7ish minutes, its a short quick exchange and its over before I know it. They have two sides of the office. The right side is where I drop off my packages and the left side, I'm not sure what happens there. It says retail office. In the middle of the two offices are the PO boxes and a place to drop off boxes and packages after hours. That shaft is always overfull or doesn't work, so I always make sure I go during business hours. Make sure you read the instructions because only certain packages goes in that shaft. Parking is numerous but its a two way street and it's pretty narrow so proceed carefully. read more

I had a really good interaction over the holidays and having been meaning to write about it. One, a friendly reminder that mailing treats to different parts of the country can be costly and that it's best to box yourself at home so you don't have to purchase extra packaging and bubble wrap etc, but I was really lucky to have come so early and interacted with such kind humans. They helped me get all set up to send Christmas cookies and there was a man who purchased shipping tape and was finished with it and gave it to me, really nice of him. Plus the USPS rep was so nice and let me borrow their scissors and pen so I could set a little station for myself. Overall I think I spent $50 shipping 4 boxes of cookies included their purchased boxes and bubble wrap, not too crazy but I totally thought it'd be closer to $30 but holidays am I right? Overall had a really nice experience at this location everyone was friendly and super helpful. read more

If it were not for Clerk 63 for assisting and identifying the issue that caused our mail to be erroneously placed on a vacation hold this location would have received 1 star. Manager Marilou was completely unprofessional and showed a complete disdain in wanting to perform any sort of customer service. They keep listing my address as 'vacant' this has happened four times over the last 2 years. I have missed, medicine, legal documents, dmv tags, christmas cards, etc... It is beyond unacceptable and they seem incapable of fixing the problem. I don't know if it is Dejoy's new automated system or cuts, or what, but this is utterly insane to me that we can no longer even rely on the basic mail delivery. Today, November 1st has already been a heck-ish day due to moving cross country and getting sarcasm and just plain attitude at this post office wasn't on my list. I had to come in person for an extra verification to change to my new address and this older gentleman that helped me was EXTREMELY rude. On the email with the barcode he made me read out the instructions out loud to him a couple of times and even told me to continue and said how we the customers never pay attention and notice these things and how he needs to email the president of the post office to change it. Saying that to a customer and making a customer read something to his was outrageous to the point my husband called. The gentleman said " he's exhausted" and that's why he was rude I guess. Even when I'm at work and I'm exhausted I don't act this way to people. And the employee making me feel stupid made me feel so embarrassed. That older gentleman with the white beard needs to be reminded how to talk to people. read more

I placed a hold on my mail online. When I went to pick up my mail, it was not there. The "supervisor" Mary Lou, had no record of the hold request, and no idea where my mail is at. Maybe it was delivered to the people that are now at my former address; maybe it's in the mail truck; maybe it's in Oz. No one knows, no one is responsible. Helpfully, I can go back in two days to see if my mail has magically appeared. I don't have much hope. Because I was expecting my car registration tags, now I get to visit the DMV and try to explain how the USPS look at my mail. read more

I put in an address change weeks ago and wasn't getting any mail. I put a note on my mailbox with my first initial and full last name and the full address. Still no mail. Through tracking I found that they were saying "No such address" and keeping my mail. I found the post man on his route today and he was trying to cover his badge so I took a photo and got one with his badge uncovered. Postman Carlos Munguia said my mail was at the post office. I talked to the supervisor and it wasn't there although my address change notification was there. Still no package though. read more

This is the worst post office in San Diego. I keep hoping things will get better after so many reviews have been left echoing the same concerns I have had. Who is going to do something? The employees here act like you are inconveniencing them--every time. I spent $18 to mail a pre paid box and they wouldn't even tape it shut for me, told me I had to buy tape too. Service like this, or lack there of, is why I would rather use UPS or FedEx. As someone who works in customer service as well, I can empathize with the frustrations that come with working with the public but it doesn't make it right to show a lack of appreciation to people who are supporting your establishment. Do yourself a favor and go to another location. Clairemont has always been really polite and helpful! read more

This is what I had to say back in 2018 but never posted this draft: At this particular location there is a nasty woman there on Saturdays who definitely recognizes me but will not give me my mail on occasions if I forget my key. She said it's illegal. I contacted USPS. It is not illegal. It's a practice to ensure mail does not go to the wrong recipient. Exceptions can be made by the post master if they recognize you, know it's your box, at their discretion. They will not give you mail even if they recognize you which IS legal esp if your photo ID matches your box! What happened to reasonable accommodations? This is what I'm adding in 2023: Came here to mail a package that needed to go to Guam.... got hassled by the rudest Guamanian post woman who told me I shouldn't be mailing someone a cake. Who is she to tell me what I give as gifts?. She further told me that my package would "never get there" which is unprofessional. Never!? There is a published delivery date for priority mail (what I used)... She said that it would likely be 7 more days than the 3-5 days published. She went on about her thoughts on choices of gift, mail product of choice(priority mail), and other general rudeness I got out of line to see someone else at another counter and she held up the extremely long line of customer to come over and provide me unsolicited interference to me and everyone waiting. The worst part was she was 110% wrong. I hope she followed up on that package since she was so adamant... it got there in 3 business days. It literally got there as early as possible given the path it takes to get to Guam. From this experience I became thankful and grateful I made the wise decision of changing my address and moving to a completely different PO Box facility and away from this one back in 2018. It's nearly impossible to have a neutral experience let alone a positive one. This is truly the consistently worst (key word being consistently) post office I have ever used in my life. read more

This gentleman had 10 tags to print and said he would be a while at the Self-Service kiosk. Why did he not do this at home on the computer? He didn't even have the items that were being shipped with him at this moment. Where was the US postal employee to service the lobby. It was incredibly backed up and no social distancing being reinforced. People were trying to get to their boxes on the left of this photo. Two other people were waiting to use the self-service station that took at least 25 minutes to get to. It was faster to go through the backed up line in the end. For a person who works 40 hours a week it is tough to get off with just enough time to rush over to the "United" post office in order to mail a package for a loved one. When the hours are listed at 5 o'clock and your doors close five minutes till. it really ruins a persons entire plans for surprising that loved one. This post office obviously has no respect for the hours in which they have listed so I posted this nice photo for them proving that their doors were locked and services shut down before the time listed. Thanks a lot USPS. You can do a lot with five minutes. I remember driving by here all the time when I first move to SD, the biggest building for US post office now no longer in service, only a portion behind the giant construction which I'm not sure what they would try to build that into. The passport service now either downtown or mission valley whichever you want to do for your first passport or renewal for the 2nd time. I was trying to use the self service kiosk but it didn't give me the option, the employee suggested me to go to Mission Valley one, but also I found out I could buy money order here and have it mailed out for my renewal. Would take at least 4 weeks, but I'm glad everything was done right, unfortunately they stopped doing the residential mailboxes key copy as well, but they were the biggest one I had gone to, so I don't think any smaller locations would have done that still, not too much traffic in and out, parking was plenty, line was always short. I prefer this location even though it's not the closest location to me. The parking lot is huge- I've never struggled to find a spot here, unlike Hillcrest. I have been here multiple time, the most recent on a Friday afternoon. There was no line and I purchased stamps, mailed about 50 envelopes, and was on my way - all in about 10 minutes. They have a self service kiosk if you want to buy shipping labels or stamps. There was no line for this. As pleasant as a post office service can be. read more

People can change and I applaud the effort and difference. This visit was completely different! Perhaps the fact that there were no long lines or annoyed customers to be attended to this go around that changed things. Either way Jacquie was pleasant, engaging, and while not seemingly thrilled to be at work, she didn't seem upset or even over being there. It was nice to see her effortlessly exude customer service skills and a bit of her personality with another customer. I hope this is her new normal, as the new attitude and approach will serve her well in the future and should be noticed. Kudos! read more

Older white woman with short hair was extremely prejudice and discriminatory towards me. She was automatically rude when i walked in. I have short hair and it's apparent i am a woman and she acknowledged me saying sir multiple times and never corrected her self. When i asked about sending a package she automatically told me "tape it up & come back" i said okay is there a way for me to just get a stamp and do it on my own once taped she said no. No other stamps. I said even for regular shipping? She said "How many times do it have to tell you no" she never looked up to me and i said i will take my business elsewhere. She was rude to every person before me that helped her and i will be following up to see what corrective action will take place . I never felt so embarrassed to come to a place in my life. The way she loudly disrespected me is ridiculous and not okay. She should be fired. read more

This isn't the main post office building on Midway as I found out after going through the line. The USPS worker told me there was a separate office just halfway up the block at the next driveway. There is a white circus-tent looking structure on the same property on Midway Dr, with a entrance driveway that takes you to their annex, apparently for undelivered mail to our zip code. It's odd because you have to ring a bell, next to a closed door, where another USPS associate takes your delivery notice card and retrieves your mail from the back. Sometimes you have to ring the bell more than once because who knows what kind of shenanigans goes on back there behind closed doors. Once you figure out the process, it's not so bad. Just make sure you go to the correct location listed on the back of the delivery notice card to pick up your mail so you don't go to the wrong post office like I did. read more

The women here are extremely unprofessional and downright rude. I came to drop off my marriage license and read that their system was down however, if you had exact change they could help you! I stood in line for a minute until I was directed to the kiosk. I said I'd like to be helped and I had exact change. Another girl abruptly yelled "OUR SYSTEMS ARE DOWN DID YOU READ THE SIGN?" to which I replied, "i did read the sign and I have exact change". She proceeded to make me feel completely stupid saying that they could not help anyone (even though the sign lists some exceptions, one being exact change). They're all standing around like a bunch of bozos, annoyed their system is down and have to redirect people. While I was helping myself at the kiosk they were completely rude and disrespectful to another middle aged woman as well! I told the lady they yelled and belittled me as well and she mentioned she comes here every week and they're always rude. Long story short I did not feel comfortable leaving my marriage certificate with them and that's not OKAY. To the managers - check on your staff. This is not how a United States postal office should be operating. read more

Completed my return forms onthe Amazon app. Returned items to the UPS Store on Midway Drive and Rosecrans Street. No wait. Showed my iPhone to the attendant. She Scanned the two items recorded onthe phone. Gave me a receipt. Transaction took less than five minutes. Awesome!!! Will return again. read more

We will be going back into this location to find out the name of the very rude and misinformed 2 women that "helped us". My friend and I came in to this location with a package, about 10lbs, to send to Nigeria. First we were told we couldn't use our box, we'd have to purchase one, so we did, then we would have to purchase tape, so we did. Then, after filling out the forms, without any looking into where this package was going, we were told "we aren't sending packages to Nigeria because of all the issues and fraud".. mind you, both these women lied to us as we then took our package to the Pacific beach location off Cass street and was told a completely different story, helped like a customer and had completely different experience. If you can avoid this particular location, then I would highly advise you go to a different one. This location is on my way home from work, so I came in early in the afternoon to get a large envelope and send a package. There was plenty of parking, but as soon as I opened the door to walk in, I was hit with the stench of pee. It was unbearable, but I had to send my package so I waited in line (behind a couple I'm 70% sure were meth heads). When I got to an open postal service worker, she was very pleasant and helpful. That kept this review from being just a one star review. AVOID IF POSSIBLE. read more

I often need to speak with one of the ladies at the front desk and have NEVER had an issue. They go out of their way to help me and accommodate other customers. I've had them open my box when I've misplaced my key and even get my mail when my payment is overdue. Every single one of them has been exceptional in my opinion. The manager of online services, Dan (?) has gone out of his way to extend courtesies beyond the norm...even mailing me a $15 refund out of state for my overpaid box. I'm not sure where all these unpleasant reviews are coming from, but personally, I appreciate all these front end ladies do!! read more

This place is really weird because it's kind of hidden. There used to be a really big USPS facility but they closed it down and now all that is left is the small USPS post office hidden behind a white tent. The parking is ample and the service is actually pretty good compared to the other USPS places. They were pretty expedient but maybe I got lucky? Angel a lady that works there was trying to tape my letter versus me licking it or using water to seal it. I told her that it was my letter that I was paying for and that I didn't feel comfortable with just taping it with clear tape that doesn't hold very well. She said "what's your deal what's with the attitude." All because I didn't want that tape on my letter. The manager overheard us and told me that it was due to Covid, I don't believe that to be true I think the manager is also wrong and should be fired. I went to my car and used a bottle with water to seal the letter and came back into line after purchasing my two envelopes one i destroyed and a new one to replace it. She then told me she wasn't going to serve me and made me wait in line while she accepted other customers. I was there for around 20 minutes waiting in line while she served other customers. The worse person I have ever dealt with at the post office. Please fire her immediately! read more

Very friendly and helpful staff. Rarely is busy and they always try to get everyone in and out quick. I much prefer this location to others I have been to. I recently put the wrong address on some mail of mine and when I came back they were more than happy to help me fix the issue. Cecilia and especially Dom are great. I come here to pick up my mail. I have a P.O. Box now. I definitely find it easy to find my box. There's a monthly fee for having a P.O. Box. I come here once every week to check my mail. This post office is pretty big compared to the ones in the city. There's plenty of parking in front. Weekends seem to be busy when parking here. Be careful for the speeders that speed in the parking lot. read more

I have been meaning to Yelp this Training Lot for the Post Office for a while now. I had my camera today and thought that the time has finally arrived. Yes, the mailmen and women learn to drive those funky little postal cars and wagons right here in this concrete, fenced area. Despite the nearby post office being closed, the gov't mail carriers make good use of the Training Lot. I have seen management types out there in the morning directing traffic around the cones and watching carefully as newbies learn the ropes. These mail "suits" carry clipboards and notepads and appear menacing to me. If you want to make the rounds on the street carrying mail, it's best to master the sharp turns and back-up parking on this U.S. Post Office Training Lot. Once, when no one was around, I even did some creeping on the Training Lot and drove around. That is probably as close to being a mail lady as I will ever get! 4 YELP STARS! read more

Post office supervisor - get your team in line! Your frontline person Debbie rather than saying can "I help who is next?", gave me a curt and unfriendly "are you ready or what?" Did this directly after her and your other team members were discussing personal matters of one of your team member's son's MRI for all to hear. After beginning to help me Debbie began to complain how her feet hurt and sat on the stool and said "I don't care what they say. These floor mats suck." Her I don't give a s*#t attitude allowed her to drop my mail piece of mail damaging the corner of what are several certificates for wall display. She just stared at it as it fell and continue to weigh my other mail pieces, leaving it on the floor. There was no acknowledgment of her folly or need to apologize. Are you running a business here? If so get your team to act like it. Just because it is a public service doesn't mean your team members can't have some sense of customer service, be courteous, and act professionally. I like that they have extended hours for shipping, but the whole shipping process can be a bit confusing, if you're a shipping newbie like I am. Usually, I just hit a Postal Annex+, but sometimes I'm too late for that store, and need to send something from the post office. I know it's a government institution, but the lack of information and helpful, useful items is slightly dismaying. There are the obligatory chains attached to tables, but instead of having pens at the ends, the chains dangle free. Instructions as to which label is used for which shipping option are also non-existent, so you're basically forced to stand in line, hoping that what you have is sufficient. Let me tell you - in all the times I've had to go through the USPS to ship something, what I've had when I've finally been called to a window is *never* sufficient. I'm always told to take this label, this envelope, this pen (but you be sure to bring it back, now!) and go to that window to fill everything out. The workers are typically friendly, though, which takes some of the sting out of being told you were wrong from the get-go. read more

This is one of the few post offices in this local area that has a self service machine. This is the 4th time I have come to this location and it has been "unavailable" to print stamps. And when you get there and the security guard is making sure no one goes in to speak to people to ensure they close at 5pm sharp, there is no one to advise it is broken. A man attempted to tell the guard and he kept talking over the man saying, "we're closed. Sorry, we're closed". The man said, I understand you're closed. I just want to be sure you're aware that your machine is broken. " The guard did nothing. I completely understand hey have to close on time. That's not the issue. Not fixing the machine is the issue. I have come on 4 separate occasions in two week... unfortunate I will say that I love the convenience of the P.O. boxes. I have one and it is worth every penny. read more

I found this sign on the window and no other explanation about why the lobby was closed or when it would be open. Compared to post offices where I'm from, this post office had ample parking and not a long line at around 10:00 am. The service was friendly and fast. In and out service.
