You know, for a post office, this one is not that bad. I haven't had any grumpy people behind the counter, the lines move pretty quickly, and there is a self-service postage machine up front, if you just want to take care of things yourself. Gee is the guy who I have worked with the most, and he is very friendly, quick and efficient, and makes the process of shipping multiple packages at a time pretty easy.

I had to go into Park Rose Post office because the mail carrier had placed my package into the wrong box at our condo mail stand.

The line took a while while I was there. It's the post office so it's never the cleanest and prices are what they are. They have a self service area right when you walk in but it didn't have what I needed the post office for. There are also priority mail boxes available here for the public to take and use for shipping.

He weighed it and He said it would cost $1.01. I told him I had forever stamps and I would like to purchase the difference in cost for stamps for Xmas cards. (I didn't know how much the forever stamps are worth in 2024) That way I could use the forever stamp plus the additional priced stamp ($.28). He told me "just put 2 forever stamps on them". Why would I want to pay $1.46 per Xmas card when it only costs $1.01 to mail them???????? I had to request 3 times for him to sell me the .28 stamps and he acted like I was so putting him out. UGH. I will wait in line to have anyone BUT BRUCE help me next time. It isn't worth the aggravation of being treated like garbage by a federal employee who makes his living from my taxes!!!

Heck, I can't even say that this IS a secret to anyone but myself, so I may be the only one in town who was missing out...until this last weekend, anyway. It was a TikTok video, of all things, that pointed us to the deli within (Aunt Tillie's), but from there, after downing a couple of sammies, we had the pleasure of checking out the various shops (many of which seem to have...let's say...eclectic and unstable operating hours), but are still fun to browse: a vintage store, a Himalayan goods store, and others. But the real draw is the antique "mall" co/op running in the basement: a sprawling labyrinth of curated collections of the riches of yesteryear, laid out in such a way to maximize foot traffic, and capture the attention of eye and mind: vintage clothing, furniture, home décor, movies, comics, collectibles, personal items, books, postcards and a whole lot more: enough to keep a treasure hunter like me busy poking around for quite a while! I wish there were more places like this, but based on the fact that I didn't know this existed until two days ago, perhaps there are! Time to get back out there, and start exploring, because I'm obviously slacking a bit!

Located one block east of NE Sandy and the iconic Hollywood Theatre, the large light blue sign that says 42 Station is also iconic for this neighborhood. This place hasn't changed in the 20 years I've lived in Portland and it needed a facelift 20 years ago! But you aren't here for the aesthetics, your here to visit one of the 7 or 8 shops. Or Antique Valley on the lower level; a large space of multiple vendors selling their wares. The primary reason I come here is the Postal Annex. It's just so convenient with parking on the street out front and friendly service, Even though I've moved to SW I still come here frequently. They only accept cash so be forewarned. The 2nd reason I come is Aunt Tillie's Deli. If I'm here during lunch hours or need a sandwich for a picnic, this is the place! They make a delicious and satisfying sandwich and homemade soups that hit the spot! I used to visit Linda's Upholstery whenever I needed custom pillows, a seat cushion or a couch completely redone but she is no longer there. Bummer. She is the master of her craft and affordable. The Himalayan Gift store, located on the left when you walk in, never seems to have anyone there, but they are still in business. They sell clothing, candles, souvenirs and other very miscellaneous items. There is also a hair salon, another antique shop and a Nordic Home shop on the first floor. When I say shop, we are talking a very, very small footprint. The size of a small bedroom. Like I said, The 42nd Street Station is an unusual blend of stores under one roof that fits right into this neighborhood. It's not a destination or a place for out of neighborhood folks, but for those who do live nearby or did, like me, it's an essential part of the community.

This business is NOT A POST OFFICE. Notice the Google search result says "united states postal…read moreservice approved" rather than post office. Also look at Google reviews; there are mony more than Yelp and are MUCH lower. TIP: I suggest getting a price quote BEFORE you give them all your personal information: address, phone, etc. This is absolutely possible, don't listen if they tell you otherwise. All they need is the destination address. The sales person will begin their interaction with you by starting a profile which will take some time. Then you will get a very expensive quote for what you're trying to ship. This is called the "Sunk Cost Fallacy" and it is a sales tactic based on the idea that if a potential customer has invested time in a transaction they will choose to participate in the sale even though the price is unreasonable because they have now invested so much time. So after you're waited in a long line and then filled out a profile you ask yourself, "Do I really want to drive to a cheaper place after all of this, or just have this done?" I wanted to mail a 194 page paperback book. After spending time starting a profile, which took quite a few minutes, I was quoted $11.75. This book cost $4.47 to mail at USPS. Because I am not a tool I decided to spend more time on this task rather than bend over and take it. I give two starts only because the employee was very nice (but slow). While I have no complaints about a slow employee, I know most people would prefer someone who doesn't leave you wondering if he has fallen asleep. This business is open on Saturdays, when the nearby post office is not. I believe this is the only reason a person would mail a package here. Or you're a guy who just loves to throw money away.

At first I thought something was wrong because the employees are happy, they smile, they engage in conversation, and most important, they hustle! Not adjectives typically used to describe USP workers. Yes, sometimes there is a long line especially during lunch hour, between 11-1, but it moves quickly. I know when I get to the front of the line, if I have questions they will give me the attention and info I need, like which is the least expensive way to ship a package. There is a long, high table that comes in super handy when filling out forms or finishing packing up a box. They have supplies there that you can purchase and also a small assortment of greeting cards. On Saturdays they are opened until 2pm which comes in handy when you have no time to get here during the week. Plenty of parking on the street. And right next door is a deli that makes delicious sandwiches. The only downside is they don't take credit cards and that is a big downside so I am deducting a star. I haven't carried cash in years! Most people don't. Luckily I keep a bill in my wallet for emergencies. When I don't have a bill, I stop at the ATM at US Bank across the street first. Again, not convenient. Other than that, no complaints at all.
