I am not from San Francisco, CA, I am local Bergen County resident
I thought post office staff are polite and helpful, which I have experience practically everywhere, whether it is NJ, NY, RI or anywhere, but here in Paramus NJ, supposedly Premium location/site, it was practically horrendous. We are not from Paramus, but happened to be in the area so decided to mailer hand made greeting card from there. We always mailed from our local post office and had no problem. Here my wife went to mail to make sure we had enough postage, man at he window asked question about the envelope and my wife answered and he right away said that it is not , and my wife said it is what she always mail and she made it herself, man said to my wife that she was lying, and then said if you want to send like that send it. My wife came back and told me the story, in spite of my plead not to go. I said there is no reason for man to talk to you like this. I went inside, that man was not there on window. There was another woman with glasses and I said I want to see supervisor and make a complaint. she said what's the story, and I was explaining and she interrupted me saying that we don't say such thing to customers, I said but he said that's why I am here to talk, she kept telling me that now I am lying with her voice raised, and I said ma'am I speak very fluent English, and know English very well, and right away she told me to get out of the post office and started yelling at me, and I said excuse me you can't talk to me like that , she doubled her volume and withy gesture of hands to get out the post office four times, and when I saw few people on the line standing behind me I left because I did not want to make a scene there. This happened at around 12;15 PM or so, today which is August 8th, 2022. I called post office at about 12:23 PM and asked for supervisor, and Mr. Ajit Patel, the supervisor on duty answered the phone. I explained him, he was very helpful and also told me how calm and polite I am after what happened at the post office. Also in conversation topic came whether person had bad day or so, and I explained when you deal with public, and if you can not handle your emotions call somebody else, and that is what he told me that she should have done. I can write full conversation with Mr. Patel here, but in brief he agreed with me and said he will talk to them and for future if I have any problem ask for him. I said we do not come to Paramus to send our mails or for any services, but this was a horrendous and quite insulting experience I ever had from Post Office clerk, I am short of saying discrimination of dealing with a senior immigrant Citizen of USA and particularly in Paramus, NJ, Bergen county? Which is one of the most educated, diversified, affluent area in the nation. I would say Shame on.
Other personnel could be better, but experiencing two clerks within 5 minutes such a bad behavior? I am not here after anyone's job or demotion or anything to affect their financial situation, but hey better be trained properly how to talk to customers.
Peace to the world
