The Novato USPS branch offfice provides one of the most underrated services that exists today. I ship and receive many packages both domestically and internationally, mosty as a result of my Ebay sales and purchases, on a weekly basis. The USPS has never lost any of the packages I have shipped or have been scheduled to receive. I consider the USPS an invaluable resource and quite a bargain as well. ln addition, I have had perfect service in regard to stopping mail while away from my home or business. This USPS location has to be the worst Customer Service that I've ever dealt with in my entire life of existing in the United States. The Asian woman who helped me today who was in her 50s with long dark hair, told me that they are gonna make their own decisions separate from what the United States postal office offers. Yelp needs to give 0 star options. If you only use a post office box, drop off and never have to talk to anyone that is the only way this place would be worth it. Whenever you need to get help, get in line, and wait it take 45 minutes to 1 hour. There is only ever 1 employee who is over stressed out while 5 other employees will walk up front and say nothing. This is my favorite post office because of their customer service. Expect to bring some patience since there is usually a line like any other location. The staff are helpful and friendly. It seems like some of the staff know some of the customers who frequent this location which is nice to see. The location is tucked in the back corner of the shopping center. I got my passport in less than a month. The entire process was super easy thanks to the great Filipina woman who helped process my documents at the post office! I got married before the pandemic and completed my name change after the lockdown so that meant I needed to change my name on all of my official documents. My passport was last. I scheduled an appointment with USPS online. Easy peasy! Ordered a passport photo online. Yes, you can order your passport photos online from many companies. I used a full service company that guarantees your Iphone face photo meets the specifications: passport-photo.online. $9.95. Printed out the application and filled it out, leaving the signature and date blank. Made photocopies of all the documentation required - including two additional options. Organized my copies, originals, and photos in an envelope. Had two unsigned checks ready to sign at the counter to fulfill the separate fees. I arrived 25 minutes early. Lots of free lot parking. My appointment took less than 5 minutes. Parting pro-tip: if you carefully read the information on the US Government and USPS website to understand exactly what they require, you, too will have a smooth visit, and the person processing your documents will appreciate your due diligence and organization. USPS needs to just be shut down or phased out completely, full stop. It is the least professional of all couriers and if you do any tracking at all you can see the delays and circuitous route the package takes, if not lost. And then you have the mail carrier who is off by one unit in a simple 5 unit townhouse complex - where do they even deliver the last one? The next building? There may be individuals that are okay and you may have businesses send by free shipping but more and more we should let the online retailers know just use UPS or one of the other carriers that's not going to screw it up. read more

This post office seems to have a few issues: the line is always too long and goes all the way into the front entrance often, mostly due to the older lady with the black hair that is always wasting so much time chit-chatting with the customers, oblivious to the line that is fast growing. She is always in no hurry to get the line moving. She went on break once and a young man with dark hair really got the line moving and i was amazed and so grateful. i told him i hope they replace that woman with HIM! i have a bad back and very bad knees and cant stand in line very long without excruciation pain. they need to make a line for disabled people like me who cant stand in line very long! Another problem is that the stamp vending machine is always broken - and for an extended amount of time. When they finally get it fixed, it is broken again, after only a short time. and every time I have gone back it is still broken! They need t fix it soon! We all need stamps and don't want to wait in the usual "soup line." read more

I absolutely love our mailman. Rain or shine.... (poured rain for months and now it's over 100 degrees out with no end in sight), always comes to our house with a smile. I went into the post office with 5 large boxes to ship to HI and a complicated address situation. The clerk was rushing through my order because her boss was calling her or going to write her up. She didn't ask me key questions. Importantly, I was told that my packages would be going by plane, when in fact, they were put in the barge, meaning a 4-5 week delay. I had I Portent clothes, papers, etc that I need and don't have access to. I would have gladly paid more for air. I had to call customer service, file a missing mail claim, and make multiple trips to the post office to figure out what happened. I had a package coming that was delivered to a different street, thank god they rejected the delivery, the post office sent me a note telling me it was being held at the post office so I went down and stood in line . I checked the reviews here before I went to the PO to renew my passport. My experience at this PO was very pleasant. A reviewer mentioned that she had a hard time with one of the clerks but she must be really stupid that she needed help with her application. No one was being rude as I was waiting. And when my turn came, the clerk told me what to do and saved me $35. It was simple and straightforward. Fill out the form, get a picture, write a check, and send it in the mail. I wish people would stop giving bad reviews to businesses and the people who were trying to help them when they have NO IDEA what they were doing or what they were talking about. It's totally unfair to these hardworking people. If I just relied on what the other reviewers say about this office, I would've (not "would of") missed this pleasant experience. We have done Premium Mail Delivery for 20 years - that we pay for. We never had a delivery problem in Mill Valley. But since living in Novato the last five we have had nothing but issues. I love how the window desk employees tell you that they will have the manager call you back when then come in. So I have been waiting for at least two hours and half for a phone call back to see my latest update on my package. Update No one answers the local phone number. They pick up the phone after numerous rings then immediately hang up. Calling the 800 number is a joke. After the automated voice stops talking press #4 then #2 to speak with an agent. Suggest the call back feature as minimum hold is in excess of 30 minutes. Even speaking with a supervisor is useless. UPS transferred a package to Novato USPS & 5:21am on 4/20/19. USPS is stating that they never received it. YPS states the driver definitely dropped it off - they have electronic verification. USPS refuses to open a case or look into it further. DISGUSTING SERVICE! No one gives a damn at this PO as they are all tenured. The Post Office gets a bad rap. The lines are out the door but they stay open later than other branches. The staff is friendly and this location is no more clean or dirty than other locations. Although I don't mind waiting in line I find the auto packaging much more convenient. I like the auto package postaging that makes life so much easier than waiting in line. Sometimes there is a line at the machine as well as a line to speak to a real person. Often, behind the scene staff come up front to see if there are packages to be picked up. I notice this more often than at other locations I visit. The Novato post office offers passport assistance with a full fledged room to do so. I also see voter registration forms awaiting those that have recently moved or new voter. read more

This is with the entire USPS in general, ...one USPS gets ahold of your package it's really a gamble as to whether or not it will arrive at its destination. USPS seems to lose about 15-25% of the items I purchase online. I prefer FedEx and UPS as I've had 100% success rate with both services. read more

Been to this post office 4x since we moved here & I've had a positive experience everytime. Usually 2-3 staff members up front. Granted there have been some long waits, and there have been a time when I waited 10 mins and turned around and went home - but this isn't necessarily anyone's fault but my own. I was in too much of a rush & got impatient. The other times - I've only observed warmth, kindness, and genuine willingness to help us customers. One time their supervisor helped track an international package for me; when I got home within 10 mins, there was a call from him w/ an update. And within 2 hrs, said package was at my front door!!! I made an on line appt for my passport. My passport was dated 1/2004. I read and re-read all info on renewing vs applying for new passport. Confusing-it expires in 10 years but you can renew within 15? So I completed the form to get a new passport. Other customers there for their passports had problems with the forms also. 2 workers were doing the passports. The female worker went beyond to help me. She let me fill in the form for re-newal, took my picture. The male worker was very rude-he told me to do the form at home and mail it in. He was also rude to the other customers.The female worker took me to her counter and helped me send off the passport papers. This is what I learned: *Fill in and complete all passport forms for renewing passports and for new passports. Do both, let the PO tell you which one is needed. *****Bring your checkbook to make out check to passport agency or you will need to buy a money order*********** *You cannot mail form from home. I'm not sure what post office the previous two yuppies--I mean Yelpers visited because after six years of not coming here; the same great service and employees greeted me. The post office is spacious, clean, organized, and...nice! I came in on a Friday afternoon and there were only about two or three people waiting in line, which made for quick, speedy service. The post office has plenty of supplies (boxes, labels, packaging supplies) and all the free Priority Mail supplies are readily available without having to ask an employee. After waiting a few minutes, the courteous employee called me up and within minutes my package was on its way to Los Angeles. I couldn't believe the same employees were working behind the counter and were just as I remembered them. If you think this is a one-star post office, I invite you to visit my local post office in Richmond, California. The employees there are forced to throw packages to get the job done at a faster pace to keep things on track for the managers(Claudia) and the reason for this issue is because they are under staffed and under paid but have to keep up with the pace or get stared down by management with a look that says your not cutting it. It's very intimidating and stressful for the employees because they know your not supposed to throw the packages but the upper levels there just say who cares and does It themselves. It's not fair because if a carrier is out on there route getting caught throwing a package they would loose there job in a heart beat. Also it's not fair to the carrier who has to go out on the same route everyday and customers complain to them about messed up goods when they had nothing to do with it. Literally on any given day you will see a package getting thrown and it's just not right to the customer. They literally don't know what's inside and how valuable it is, all they care about is getting the job done as fast as possible because they know at the end of the day there understaffed and more packages will be coming in on top of the overworked employees. In the mornings is where things really get tossed around. The managers just overlook it and tend to other matters, which really is nothing in high demand. It's a hit and miss experience here. Sometimes the line moves quickly and the clerks are very happy and efficient with their time. Sometimes, there aren't enough employees to handle the line or those that are there are busy chatting with each other that the customer has to wait for lulls in conversation to get their mailing needs taken care of. Today was the later when I went here. There was some inhouse competition between a register that took credit cards and one that took only cash. As I had a simply package to send out to another pen pal school for my class, I was hoping to get in and out. Unfortunately, the two clerks available were bantering congenially about their competition placement. With only two people in front of me, both with simple mailing needs, it still took 30 minutes to get through the line. When I got to the cash register to send my parcel certified, the clerk made three errors due to chatting it up with her colleague. Finally focused, and 10 minutes later, I got my package stamped and collected. While I understand there are lively games sometimes used at work to promote comradity and competition amongst staff, there still should be a focus on efficiency and professionalism. Getting customers through the line should be priority and focus on the customer's instructions should be given attention over a colleague's banter. If this got looked at, perhaps the experience would be better. Also, don't get me started on the parking lot outside just to get inside.... read more

how many stars can i reduce the post office by ......? hmmmmm. the post office post office boxes are filled with germs. yuck! a toddler does not need to be handling my mail when it is being picked up. until may 2023 I personally used to go into this post office to check the mailbox and I bring home the mail without the toddler touching it of course. I am of the mindset I don't want at all, a sick child in the household. cant work when the kids are sick even when working from home. how does one sanitize the post office box? I know .... do it the holistic natural way, spray the out side of the box and the inside of the box with they key in the slot of course with vinegar. that will kill the germs when the distilled vinegar is used full strength. Dropping the mail into my plastic bag to carry it to the car, i spritz the mail real well in order to get all the germs off the mail, works better than lysol. make yourself healthier, use vinegar on all mail you pick up at the post office and if you receive mail at home spritz the inside of your mail box at home and the incoming mail mail drop with distilled vinegar is great way to get rid of the germs and sanitize the mail read more
