My unanswered call during business hours
Selenia M.

This is the worst post office EVER! I was expecting a package which showed 'out for delivery'. It was not in the hall with the other mail I received. No pick up notice or 2nd attempt.. Nothing. When I checked the tracking it showed 'status not updated'. A small package just M.I.A. I call the post office and speak with Steve who takes my info along with the tracking details. He assures me I'll receive a callback once the postal carrier returns.. No call! I follow up the next day, and receive the same.. 'I'll check with the driver and call you back. The driver was supposed to return at 1pm per Steve. It's 4:43 and nothing. I've been calling them all afternoon and no one answers. How convenient. Find a more efficient location.

30+ minutes in line. I don't get it.

Had a package coming to me via USPS and as I was at work during their first attempt to drop it off, I was left a notice that it would be available for pickup the next day. I showed up in the afternoon a few days later expecting some traffic; its a post office on a Monday afternoon after all. But what I found was bordering on incompetence. When I came in, I noticed only 2 of the 5 windows open. After getting to the clerk, I pull my notice and begin to say I'm here to pick up before I'm cut off: "Pickups are around the corner. Next." Ok, fair enough. I turn the corner and run into a line of some 10-odd people, visibly upset. I see nobody at the window and after a few minutes I ask the person in front of me how long they've been waiting. "Close to half an hour now". Two young girls were at the front of the line and from what I overheard, had been waiting, were sent back to the original line I was first on, and then sent back again. When they questioned why they were sent back, the clerk mutters "did he find it?" and disappears once they understandably start getting upset. This location always has been a headache but today was just too much. I'd rather have my mail sent to my workplace than risk having to come back here again.

Literally the WORST post office in Mount Vernon. They lost about 4 of my packages and delivered another 2 to the wrong address with no reimbursements of course. I have to call the inspector general to get things done around here. Drivers lazy as hell and they tend to lie about redelivery or just don't do it all! The employees don't know anything and can't answer any questions unless the manager is there and the attitudes! Atrocious! A bunch of idiots work at this office apparently, they can't do ANYTHING right. STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE.

I hate this post office. I wish it would just shut down. I'd rather have to travel to a different location than be bothered with this one

Unlike the larger Wakefield Post office at East 233rd Street, this office is small and doesn't attract many lines. Growing up in the neighborhood, it was my preferred place to mail small parcels. Located next door to the East 241st subway station and the last stop on the numbers 2 and 5 trains, this post office happens to be the northernmost post office in New York City. The area was sketchy back during the 1980s when an Off Track Betting (OTB) location operated in the retail space next door, and for sometime the intersection where it was located was rated as the most violent intersection in the city with regards to homicides (all attributed to the OTB location). Since that location has closed, things have gotten better and the post office continues to provide service to those working in the Woodlawn, Wakefield, and Baychester neighborhoods of the Bronx and neighboring Mount Vernon in Westchester County.

Instead of handling the situation professionally, the employee became hostile, used profanity, repeatedly asked me to go outside to fight, and attempted to grab my phone while I was recording. This entire incident was witnessed by other employees and customers. At no point did I behave physically aggressive, yet the situation escalated due to the employee's conduct. This was completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and made me feel unsafe inside a federal building. Several employees had to hold her back from assaulting me in front of multiple customers. I expect USPS employees to de-escalate situations, not provoke them. This behavior should be investigated.

There are times I do have to come here, but I rue it. I RUE it I tell ya!…read more First, this location is the most local to me and probably the only Post Office within miles (that I know of). It's small with about half the public area given to PO boxes. 9 times out of 10 coming inside here, there is a line - a very slow moving line. There are three counter spaces available, but usually only 1-2 very slow moving Postal workers at these counters. In all the years I've come here, the slow aspect of the way they clear out customers has become a tradition. I know it happens in other Post Offices as well, so this place is really no different. (I've always said if a private corporation bought out the US Post Office, things would run a lot more efficiently.). Besides the obvious slowness, some of the time the workers aren't overly friendly either - a given as well, since they're not required to be. There has been times that someone behind the counter will be courteous or even crack a smile, but it's a rarity when that happens. A few years ago, they had some sort of supervisor out in the front with the customers and boy did those workers' behaviors change for that brief period of time - they became faster and nicer....but once that supervisor stopped being there, it was back to the mundane gingerly approach. And to be fair, it's not all of them because there are some that are actually friendly and helpful as well. I mentioned the place was small with usually a line, but past that, the supplies available for customers to use is usually decently maintained and stocked. If you can nuzzle your way in to get a form or something, you can usually find what you're looking for. I always have things prepared before I come here, so I would probably advise getting a few extra for yourselves if you end up having to come here more frequently. The mail carriers branched out of this location are ok. My usual mail carriers to my house have always been very good - it's the ones who cover them on days off that are the problem. Thankfully, it doesn't happen too often. I've had three mail carriers over the years consistently deliver to my house and all three have always been great. The parking lot is busy and on a busy day, you won't be finding a spot so easy. A lot of people double park on the fire lane even if they're inside waiting on the horrendous line. On a typical Saturday morning the lot can be a madhouse and it's a pain to try and find a spot. If you have to come on a Saturday, I would advise you to come a few minutes before open. This place does keep the lot open for 24 hour Post Office box access and mailboxes.
