THE ABSOLUTE WORST POST OFFICE TO EVER EXIST. ALL of the negative comments are correct! These people literally walk passed the phone as its ringing and they dont answer. I spent and entire day literally calling and not one call did someone pick up the phone. I had a package that stated "delivered" but it said delivered to my PO Box WHICH I DONT HAVE!!! The packing slip literally has my home address on it so how was it delivered to a PO Box when I DONT have one. These people are literally useless and rude. Will catch an attitude due to their errors. This is the 5th time I have had a problem with this office. And if you have to go there, put aside at least an hour just to wait on line. read more

Two days ago, I sent my nephew something via certified mail. It was time-sensitive but it was just in an envelope, therefore I didn't feel like going all the way to FedEx and also spending a lot more money. I tracked it online and it was out for delivery today - and then suddenly (at about noon), the tracking information said delivery was "refused". Further, it also said the item was being *returned to the sender* (!). I was *livid* and I was thinking that the incompetent mail carrier attempted to deliver it to the wrong address - but that didn't make any sense because my writing is really clear. Also; if in fact the incompetent mail carrier somehow went to the wrong address, that would (supposedly) be *quite obvious*. As an aside; I had a similar experience with the other Mount Vernon post office (Fleetwood) a few months ago, when I'd also sent my nephew something in an envelope via certified mail (see my separate review). The tracking information said the item was delayed and then it was delivered the next day, but even now - *nearly three months later* - it STILL says it's delayed (it's a huge understatement to say that's absurd). I made many attempts to call both post office locations today, but no one EVER answered (and the same thing happened with the Fleetwood location the last time). Then I tried calling the postal service's 800 # - but after waiting on hold for 40 minutes, I finally gave up. Meanwhile; my nephew returned home at about 3:00 p.m., and guess what was in his mailbox (yes, folks; it was the item that was being "returned to sender" because delivery was "refused"....). Both situations are beyond pathetic, but especially today's - and not only was it infuriating for me to waste so much time which resulted from sheer incompetence (in addition to making a special trip to the post office and waiting in a long line), but I paid for certified mail both times and it was useless. Lesson learned; in the future, I'll spend the time and money going to FedEx. read more

This is the worst post office EVER! I was expecting a package which showed 'out for delivery'. It was not in the hall with the other mail I received. No pick up notice or 2nd attempt.. Nothing. When I checked the tracking it showed 'status not updated'. A small package just M.I.A. I call the post office and speak with Steve who takes my info along with the tracking details. He assures me I'll receive a callback once the postal carrier returns.. No call! I follow up the next day, and receive the same.. 'I'll check with the driver and call you back. The driver was supposed to return at 1pm per Steve. It's 4:43 and nothing. I've been calling them all afternoon and no one answers. How convenient. Find a more efficient location. read more

Customer service is very horrible on a Saturday. I can't speak for any of the other days. But any Saturday I have to visit the post office in Mount Vernon near Enterprise, it is the SAME TERRIBLE SERVICE. Many of us who work Monday-Friday appreciate when a business as such is open on a weekend. However, the woman who worked at the 1st window on 12/16 between 12:45pm and 1:15pm had to have been upset that she worked this day. Her attitude when talking to people standing on the line was very nasty. There were only 2 clerks and the other gentleman on the other end did not speak very loud, so no one knew when he was calling next. It seemed she was dealing with passport applications, but then only the guy was left dealing with the rest of the line as she had the same customer the entire time I was there (30 minutes) When her customer was done, she still did not jump in to help the line and only kept shouting "He's calling next, I didnt call next!". I did mention it was no need for the attitude. Now, I don't know what the staffing concerns are, as a manager myself, I can understand running a customer service based office when you are short staff. But reminding employees that we are in the business of customer service, and that it is a very important aspect of our job duties to be courteous, respectful, and polite to those we have to service. Unless a customer is being difficult and disrespectful, customers should not initially be greeted or handled with such. Whoever the postmaster is, the employees definitely need to be spoken to about this because this poor service has been ongoing and doesn't seem to get any better. Had a package coming to me via USPS and as I was at work during their first attempt to drop it off, I was left a notice that it would be available for pickup the next day. I showed up in the afternoon a few days later expecting some traffic; its a post office on a Monday afternoon after all. But what I found was bordering on incompetence. When I came in, I noticed only 2 of the 5 windows open. After getting to the clerk, I pull my notice and begin to say I'm here to pick up before I'm cut off: "Pickups are around the corner. Next." Ok, fair enough. I turn the corner and run into a line of some 10-odd people, visibly upset. I see nobody at the window and after a few minutes I ask the person in front of me how long they've been waiting. "Close to half an hour now". Two young girls were at the front of the line and from what I overheard, had been waiting, were sent back to the original line I was first on, and then sent back again. When they questioned why they were sent back, the clerk mutters "did he find it?" and disappears once they understandably start getting upset. This location always has been a headache but today was just too much. I'd rather have my mail sent to my workplace than risk having to come back here again. read more

Literally the WORST post office in Mount Vernon. They lost about 4 of my packages and delivered another 2 to the wrong address with no reimbursements of course. I have to call the inspector general to get things done around here. Drivers lazy as hell and they tend to lie about redelivery or just don't do it all! They don't give a shit about anybody's important mail or packages and don't seem interested in improvement whatsoever. They employees are clueless, rude and rub it into your face that they could not care less that they have no idea where your package is. Their Sandford branch is equally unhelpful. The facilities are appalling with moldy ceilings and grimy counters and floor. They managed to 'misplace' a registered mail with my mothers death certificate. It took them a week and the involvement of two supervisors to find it. Want a passport ? Tough luck. Not at this post office. This has to be the WORST post office with the worst carriers ever. They do not follow directions here and they're rude. My sisters package went mysteriously missing a week before mine so I put in a hold request to avoid that with my package. Of course my hold request was completely ignored. After it was sorted it was still put out for delivery. The mail carrier claimed to attempt a delivery which was a lie because I was at my door at that EXACT time. I go to the post office the next morning at 830 and one lady names Sheila I believe went to look for it. She didn't find it. I asked for management and her name. No names were given and no management came. The name i got I overhead it. Another lady came out and had to call my carrier on the phone because I was not leaving. The lady then says The girl pressed the wrong button. -_- WHAT. Instead of it saying mail is being held she pressed attempted delivery instead. PEOPLE I WAS LIVID. i stopped by this usps branch in mt vernon cause my buddy who was born in mt vernon ask me if i wanted to see some ghetto soap opera drama which i dont but i do need stamps and i am a little curious about all the fuss. ok its a fairly common typical post office and maybe a bit larger then most other post offices in westchester but again the common theme is long lines and only one or two clerks working at snails pace .while waiting on line for stamps i heard so much profanity from customers and the ghetto soap opera drama my buddy mentioned just started as a customer and clerk are going it at verbally non stop . this is one of worst post office around and the other yelp reviews are on point , this post office should install self service kiosk machines so the chance of dealing with a useless clerk is zero . i finally got my stamps and nothing more and its time to leave mount vernon asap. read more

No rating - system would not let me post without indicating a rating. This post office needs an overhaul customer service training for all employed in this post office. Someone at this USPS South 1st Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY lost a certified letter and can't find it since November 16, 2017. When I speak with the mailman, he states the letter is in the Post Office - "...it was not placed in the truck". I go to speak with the supervisor or postmaster and they are never there. I spoke with the window clerk and she responds to me like I am bothering her. She stated it was in the truck. NOW! Where is it???? Today is Thursday, December 7, 2017. I received a message at work from someone in this post office - and never identified himself and the number he provided just rings, rings, rings and then disconnects (like someone is picking up the phone and hanging up the call). What's worst the content of this letter is to pay for medical and prescriptions that I currently do not have. Stay away from this POST OFFICE.....unfortunately the employees are ignorant.....let me tell you why..1st I had my mail put on Hold January 27...with specific instructions who is to pick it up with ID....he went to pick up my hold mail a week later and was told the mail was delivered. What??? It should have been held....OK so day 2..at the post office..."We need ID of the person your getting mail for and your mail is with the carrier?. Why again it's hold mail...see the email with the confirmation number and instructions...Get the supervisor...Supervisor says. Be prepared to spend 30+min on line here especially on a Saturday when they have 1 clerk helping a line wrapped around the doorway

This is the Post Office from HELL.. I can attest to the truth of all the negative comments made before me and worse. I buy a lot on Ebay and if I do not receive my packages at home (more on that later), i HAVE TO go to this Post Office to receive the package. NO ONE will ever answer the listed phone number. The are supposed to open at 8:30. Many times the doors will not open until 8:45 and the first (and sometimes ONLY) clerk will not be ready to serve customers until 9:00 a.m. Postal drivers REGULARLY do not deliver your package; do not ring your bell; do not even fill out the orange pick up delivery slip. Many times I am tracking packages and it will say out for delivery before 9 a.m. By 9 p.m. at night it will still be OUT FOR DELIVERY. Before midnight it will say NO SECURE LOCATION AVAILABLE, which means they never even tried to deliver my package, but left this message. So off to this dreaded Post Office I go to retrieve the package they never even attempted to deliver, where I run into the aforementioned late openings, under staffing and THE RUDEST CLERKS YOU WILL EVER SEE. If I get out there before 30 minutes I count myself fortunate. Because of all of the problems with the service, the lines are long, you spend an inordinate amount of time in this place. This results in short fuses between the customers and I have seen several almost fights break out between customers, as their frustration with the poor level of service boils over. The meters on the street only go for 30 minutes so many people will have to leave their place in line, to fill the parking meter, or risk getting a $25 ticket. Parking on the street in inadequate as the local Section 8 office is at the corner and they open at the same time. Overall, if I could give them a NEGATIVE 50 (on a scale of 1-5 stars) I would. This is by far the worst post office I have ever been to. They actually asked me and my service dog to leave because the woman behind the glass didn't like dogs. When I explained it was a service dog and that I had proof she told me I would have to HOLD THE DOG, or wait outside on the steps. The Mount Vernon Postal Service has always been problematic. If I could give it less than one star I would. The lastest fiasco is this: I ordered merchandise from Amazon Prime Day. I was home all day and got an e-mail saying that the USPS attempted to deliver my package at 6:17 PM and left a slip saying so. That was a lie. I was home all day and they never attempted any delivery and never left a notice. I called the number in the email and after being on-hold for one hour, they told me it would be at my local post office tomorrow from 9AM to 5PM. I went to my local Post Office and was told the package was not there and there were a number of others with the same problem. It appears the delivery person never actually tried to deliver the merchandise and falsely said that they did. This is fraud and abuse of the Postal Service. All of the reviews are absolutely true. They are thee worst post office I ever had to deal with. I lived in many places and never had so many issues. I have to get my stuff mailed to a family members house in the bronx so I can avoid the many issues. They lie about delivery yet there is no paper on your door. you only know by tracking it. They always put "Attempt to deliver." Carriers are so freaking lazy. I have seen packages dropped off in my building and left in the lobby by elevator where anyone can take it. I have many checks sent to my home which always seem to never make it to my mail box. I feel like the post office is stealing it. Also I have not gotten any mail in the last month not even junk mail, but I get someone else mail. I tried to make a complaint on line and they said they couldnt help and they will forward it to local post office. REALLY... if you have to get a package from post office. you will be waiting on line FOREVER and the meter is only 30min to park.
