It was just before the Christmas and I went to this post office to ask the clerk's help to mail a gift internationally. He kept yelling at me that mailing vitamins is against the law. There was no explanation or demonstration of which law was violated when I asked him. Then another guy appeared coldly telling me that the store was about to be closed and that I should leave. This terrible experience destroyed my holiday spirit and haunted me for weeks. Till now, I still feel scared to go into this post office to use their service.

When we arrived to the front of the line, we were very rudely told that we missed our appointment and they could not service us. They told us we were supposed to arrive 10 minutes early, which was not directed anywhere in the appointment confirmation and questioned us repeatedly why we did not come to the front of the line. The staff was extremely rude and uncompromising even after we clearly showed them our appointment times, and that we were indeed on time.

This unnecessary visit came as a result of a parcel I mailed on Dec. 4th to Virginia with tracking. The tracking to this date shows it has never left Pittsburgh! Forget trying to get someone on their website phone number. I believe they have it shut off for the holidays! So I asked the nice clerk which is the only positive point I will give this review that since (1) I am unable to file a claim for it since I didn't insure it. (Item was only $20.00 but who knew?) and (2) they need the tracking number to look it up which I left at home, I asked what was the best way for me to send this replacement to my friend in Virginia. Seems to me that if you pay more for their services your guarantee of it arriving safely increases. For instance. Insure it for $50.00 and keep your bill of sale. Else send it express mail for $20.00 (small manila envelope) that comes with $50.00 automatic insurance. She advised I should just send it first class and insure it for $50.00. I asked for Priority mail and get this-Even though it costs more comes with insurance-it takes longer to get there than first class! Go figure! I paid my postage and kept my receipts. I told her I would return after Christmas to have her track my lost parcel. Maybe after the New Year their toll free number will have someone who will pick up. Still of all things given you are better off sending it Fed Ex or UPS. They will guarantee receipt but you pay a hefty price-tag for their services. So for now I have stood in enough 30 minute lines to get my parcels out early to the folks I that are out of town. Mail can come exceptionally late at times and either your mail will end up in someone else's box or vice versa. Still we need their services so what else can one do. I only hope this parcel makes it to Virginia as I was told in three days.

And well... that's all I needed. I always have my packages prelabeled to save money on shipping, so it is cool that this post office was setup to avoid the main counter with ease. You save nearly 70% on shipping costs if you are able to weigh and measure your package at home and print a label. I wish all post offices had the double package drop off chutes. Usually the one gets clogged up quickly, so two is a BIG deal.

I arrived at 5:25 and the service counter area was locked. While I was going through the tedious self-serve parcel mailing process, three more people came in to mail packages and left frustrated. One commented that they are often closed at 5 PM. If that's the case, just change your hours officially and save people the confusion. I had a business post box here for many years which was fine. When you are here during open hours staff is always helpful. I also want to mention that despite my frustration on the evening I had to do the self serve, when I put my packages into the box they were not supposed to go out until the next day, but one of my recipients reached out the very next day to thank me for her package. So even if they were not customer facing after 5, they were obviously still keeping the mail going and I really appreciated that.
