I recently came back from some international travels and I'm one of the few people who still send postcards. Postcards I send from USA locations: 100% delivery within a couple of days. Postcards I send from anywhere else in the world: 80% or less within two weeks. Kentwood is a part of the best postal service in the world. But it's also an inefficient government bureaucracy run by Congress and an appointee whose job was to destroy operations. From what I've seen, the people working here on the front lines are nice and competent.

Grand Rapids police and postal staff do nothing to address the situation. PO Boxes only accessible during business hours, not very convenient or customer friendly. No automated shipping kiosk. In addition, supervisors shift blame to consumers when their staff continue to deposit mail in a private mailbox when all mail is supposed to be going to a PO Box that I pay several hundred dollars a year for.

They will give you advice on how to mail your package the best way for you, and if you have to go back to change your packaging they put you back in your same place in line. The clerk that helped me was so incredibly rude to me, and made me feel so terrible for having two international packages because apparently they take a long time to process. He was yelling at me and telling the customers who were coming in after me that they had to wait because I had brought in two international packages and that it was my fault they were waiting and not his fault. Every single time another customer would come in, he would yell and tell them that it was going to be a really long wait because "this girl" has two international packages to send out. He told me I was making him "suffer" by having two packages sent internationally. When I apologized for having two international packages and for it taking a little longer, he told me "don't apologize to me, apologize to THEM for making them wait!" and pointed to the customers behind me in line. I then turned to them at this point, told them how sorry I was for making them wait in tears. I have NEVER in my life felt so horribly at the hand of a complete stranger. I went to the location on the corner of Monroe and Michigan in Grand Rapids, and I was helped by a tall, caucasian guy with glasses and a receding hairline. On my receipt, it was clerk #4 but I don't know if that was a number specific to him or the register we were at. The way he spoke to me was ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. All because I wanted my boyfriend to have a piece of home during Christmas while he is ACROSS THE WORLD fighting for our freedom. This is the 2nd time I've been to this location and helped by this man and made me feel horrible for brining in a care package. I have also watched him berate an elderly woman for asking if a package would be mailed by a specific date and her walking out. If he spoke this way to me, he is definitely speaking like this to others as well and that is absolutely atrocious.

The woman behind the desk, then said very rudely you should make an appointment, which I informed her I tried and it wasn't working, and that these were the walk-in hours, she told me she would not help me. If you're going to advertise walk in hours, you should accommodate people, and If you can't, you should put a sign on the door that says (no passports for walk-ins today) so that a person doesn't spend 15 minutes in line and then get yelled at by a guy and treated badly by the person behind the desk who should be doing her job or at least be kind.
