.The good, the bad..
A while back, I walked into the FH post office with an envelope with very important documents I needed sent to the UK. By the (UN)luck of the draw, I was next on Diane's line and told her I needed to send it priority express. She immediately rang me up and charged me $32.95. I asked her if I needed to give her the customs declaration which I had already filled out and was informed that it was just an envelope and therefore not needed. However, upon reviewing the receipt, I noticed that it was shipping priority international and not priority EXPRESS and so asked her if she could please return my envelope which she had just placed atop the bin right next to her . She replied that she already put postage on it and could not give it back. I practically pleaded with her, saying that I'll add the additional postage for the express service and that it had to reach the UK by Wednesday of next week. but she repeated that it already had a postage sticker on it and could not be returned to me. Undaunted, I explained to the supervisor what my predicament was and she immediately went and retrieved my envelope.
I then went back to Diane ( HUGE ) mistake, figuring she was already familiar with my issue and gave her a PRIORITY EXPRESS envelope with the original contents placed inside. She then told me that I needed to fill out a customs form, this after telling me that since it was just an envelope, one wasn't needed. She then took off the postage which I had just paid for and placed it on the PRIORITY EXPRESS envelope and proceeded to try and transfer the info from the customs form into her computer. She began asking me repeatedly to what state it was going and I said, " there is no state, it's going to Engiand. " But she persisted. After trying Great Britain and the U.K. to no avail, she was fed up and said she can't do it . She then attempted to add the postal code which didn't show up in her system (the same system which was asking for a state in the UK).
The same supervisor who had gotten my envelope from the bin earlier suggested I return the next day with the correct postal code. Diane then handed the envelope to me, telling the supervisor that she had told me that it wouldn't arrive by Monday, after I had told her that it needed to arrive by Wednesday of next week. Additionally, the mailing sticker was still on the original envelope which she had kept, meaning had I not agreed to return the following day, the new envelope would probably have been placed in the out- going bin without any address on it! All the while she kept on mumbling, "I'm not going to be out of here at 530 today."
The following say I returned and went to a clerk who immediately said, " this will take too long..I hate this" and he foisted me off to his colleague to his left, a Chinese woman whose name I didn't catch, but she kept on insisting that the postage label on the envelope for $32.95 wasn't a postage label at all and that it was just showing how much I had to pay!, she then said, "I can't do this in a rather rushed/ nasty tone and directed me to the woman on her left. And now for the good part...
Her name is Champa and she was a godsend. She immediately recognized me as the guy from the previous day who was having difficulties at another window and proceeded to spend 40 minutes with me and my envelope. She too tried and tried to enter that mysterious postal code but could not get it to match any area in GB so finally, she said that she could send it out without verification but I'd still get a tracking number. As this was all I had wanted, I paid the additional money for the express service and thanked Champa wholeheartedly, wishing that the "genius", Diane, who was adamant about there being a state in England, had told me likewise...I would not have lost a valuable day.. read more
