This past Saturday I stopped in to send a time sensitive letter to downtown Buffalo. Pearl Street address. Zip 14202. The line for service was out the door. The self serve kiosk was wide open. Being a somewhat adventurous sort I decided to give it a go.
Scale, touch screen...all things I can deal with. And I thought I did exceptionally well until I checked the tracking number from my receipt at the USPS site. My simple legal letter destined for scrutiny at a downtown Buffalo location may or may not be in York, PA. Undeliverable.
How odd. Trying to mask my angst over this time sensitive letter with one of a kind attachments I called the USPS help - I use that term loosely -line. I was connected with an Ebonic speaking attendant who "axed" why did I put the York PA address on the envelope if I didn't want to send it there????? I am thinking this individual may have manned the phones at Medicaid or the DMV in the past. Let me reiterate. Big word to process. I DON'T KNOW ANYONE in YORK PA.!!! I don't believe that I have been there. Let me sooner shoot myself in the foot than send time sensitive material to a location that I don't know. Irma, the Ebonic speaker, was not having any of my nonsense!
Called the West Seneca Post Office. Referred me to the York Post Office. First thing out of Kate's mouth, YORK PA postal employee, was "did you use the self serve kiosk?". She told me that sometimes the attachment labels hole up inside the machine. Shoot out after the fact. Suggested I not use them in the future. Also said that the person who actually sent a letter to York, PA actually called several minutes before I did because his/her package, according to tracking numbers, is somewhere else.
I have learned a valuable lesson. Ebonics is not a language that I speak well. read more
