Miles better than the Prospect Park West little shop of horrors station. I came here on a weekday afternoon to find no line, masks and Purell in use, and a helpful post office employee who sorted out a hostage package situation for me. Apparently, UPS taped over the address label, obscuring my street address, and returned the package to USPS for address verification. However, such status was not reflected on the UPS or USPS sites, and it took a great deal of effort to figure out why my package was being held in limbo for a week. I do have to deduct one star for the faulty USPS online request form, which hits a snag every time one tries to submit it, forcing one to call an 800 number to do the same thing, only to eventually get an email back, all of which, in this case, did not resolve my issue. The second star deduction is for the initial post office employee who did not log the issue properly (or at all), such that I received no notice that my package was actually being held at this post office (or anywhere) and had to go out of my way to do gumshoe research. read more

I walked down there to send something- it was a return so I didn't purchase the label myself. got all the way there to drop it off and the lady said "no" then said "read what your package " after I looked at her confused. it was the end of the work day so we're probably both tired. I don't understand what she means by "read what your package is" so I read the label to her lol. and I look back up still confused and she goes "you still don't get it?" and I look down again and see it's UPS. lol. that's my fault but her being so rude about it was uncalled for. like we all hate our jobs no need to be rude to people. idk if it was bc I had a service dog with me or something but she entered that conversation acting like I had wronged her just by being there. could she have just said "that's a ups package?" probably. takes a lot of energy and time to be an a$$h*ole and significantly less to give people grace. read more

This location is severely understaffed. I've only seen one staff member at the window (all the times I've visited) and lines are typically out the door. Also, they are too overwhelmed to follow on take away requests. My PO Box was supposed to be ready before my first visit but I've had to come back 4 times to follow-up on the request and I still don't have access. That being said, the lone staff member at the front of the house is always kind and friendly. She deserves a huge raise. The experience I had today at the Kensington Post Office was very different from previous. Two attendants behind the counter, both quick and polite. They greeted each customer, apologized for any wait time and I sent my package with tracking to learn that it was dispatched and sent out within an hour. I left off a star because earlier, I had called the phone number to get updated hours, expecting a recording if no one answered, and there's no outgoing message even if no one answers the phone. I come by this post office at least once a month to drop something off. I have never once walked out of this hell hole without witnessing at least one fight with an employee and a customer. I'm not talking about a disagreement about making sure the glass lever is down after you put your package down to weigh. I'm talking about full blown cursing, yelling and threatening your momma, your momma's momma and your momma's momma's momma. As a customer I have never waited less than 10 minutes on the line. Typically there is only 1 or 2 people working and people are PISSED at the carelessness, slowness and attitude of the employees working here. Meh. I've noticed that lately my mail has been late and/or gone missing and arriving up to a few weeks later. Sure, one can file a claim on the USPS site (don't bother calling their 800 number b/c they've changed their phone system. You never get to speak to a person. Ever) and maybe that'll resolve your issue. Recently, I wasn't receiving any mail for about two weeks. I mean, nothing, not even junk mail. So, after cursing at the USPS maze of an 800 number, I figured out a better solution: Twitter. Pro Tip: you want an instant response? Tweet at USPS Help. You'll get an almost immediate reply and direct message. (You're welcome.) After a couple DM's with the USPS rep on Twitter, I actually got a hold of/spoke with (!)* my PO's supervisor and he personally handled the issue. USPS: Please shut this location down. Please let the employees go without pensions so our tax dollars can be used elsewhere. This neighborhood would be better off with no post office than with this one. At least no one would have to waste their time trying to do anything at this place. You can hear lots of employees shouting, laughing, and talking in the back while the line of customers grows. Sometimes the employees will keep on laughing and chatting back there for up to 30 minutes past when the office should be open - but no one will come out to help the customers. A package made it all the way from Russia to this post office, who then managed to 'lose it' whilst it completed the last half a mile of its 4664 mile journey. This is the 3rd package they have 'lost' in 6 months. The staff are appalling, even for a unionized workforce. I don't buy the 'lost' excuse any more. It seems clear that from my experience, and the numerous other reviews here that someone there is stealing packages. I've lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have had my share of issues with this branch, but I felt compelled to leave a positive review because yesterday one of the workers saved my hide. I had dropped off three packages for work only to find out on my way home I sent the wrong items. I hustled back to the branch to find all the packages in the self drop window gone. One of the tellers told me they were sorted and their wasn't anything she could do, but then looked to see if anyone was waiting in line (nobody was behind me) and said hold on. I never thought I'd see my self giving a 1 star to a postal service, but oh my god! If it was possible i would have given this location no stars. Service was so horrible i am almost at loss of words. I don't know where to begin. The reviews i read about this place were totally true. First off, upon entering i could already hear the worker arguing with the customer, and the worker had a horrible attitude. The worker was legit yelling at the customer for no reason. It was just my luck as i happened to be next. As i got to the counter she told me that i had to take my label out because it was wrong, mind you that i printer my shipping label from the amazon website. The worker claimed i had to handwrite it. So as i did that and came back to her, she was like how the label is suppose to go on the package. Are you kidding me? Her excuse was she didn't realize i had already paid for the label. The Kensington Post Office was surely recalled when Dante wrote the Inferno as this place is one of the 7 levels of Hell. Oh and the post office makes NO attempt to deliver your packages and will invariably leave that dreaded salmon colored slip to let you know there's a package waiting for you at the post office. They claim to have attempted to deliver it, but no one was home. Seriously? My girlfriend was home all day to receive it. So yeah, they lie in addition to losing your mail. * * * * To answer the question if I or anyone on Yelp has used the 1-800 number to complain, yes I have but nada. I even have taken it many steps further and wrote letters to Congressmen Anthony Weiner and Yvette Clark -- the post office is a federal issue. I also wrote to Councilman Bill DeBlasio where a member of his staff emailed me for more information. A week or so later I received a letter on his letterhead and signed by him showing a copy of the letter they sent to the post office to complain. So unfortunately my neighborhood post office is Kensington, Brooklyn 11218 , New York. My husband and I regularly have packages delivered to us almost weekly. I am writing this after years of putting up with the horrendous service from the employees/letter carriers at said post office. The letter carrier NEVER rings the bell to deliver packages and always leaves that peach colored pick up slip EVERY SINGLE TIME! How can they say they attempted to deliver when they never do??? It's outright lying. The thing that pushed me over the edge and prompted me to write this review was something that happened earlier this month. I had ordered some merchandise from Kohl's and it was supposed to be delivered by Sept. 7th, 2013. When I still hadn't received it by Sept. 18th, I looked online to see what the status of the delivery was and it said it had been delivered. I called Fed Ex and they said they had left it at the Post Office and that's where it currently was. The same day I took down the tracking number and went down to the post office to pick up my package and the staff at the window was completely unhelpful. I told them the package had not been delivered, they insisted that it had. I told them to check in the back I provided my name and the tracking number. The lady reluctantly got out of her seat and rolling her eyes took a stroll to the back and came back after TEN SECONDS and said it wasn't there and to call a 1-800 number to report a lost package. I came back home and called Fed Ex back. They said that my package was indeed at the post office and they would enquire with the post office and I will have my package within 72 hours. Lo and behold, the next day September 19, 2013 there was a peach colored "pick up" slip for the package in my mailbox. But they had the AUDACITY to back date it... It stated that the attempted delivery had been on September 17, 2013 and this was my FINAL notice and if I didn't pick up my package it would be sent back to the sender on September 21, 2013. This is the kind of incompetence and lying we have put up with for the years that we have lived in this zip code. I have never come across such a dysfunctional and lazy postal staff. I took to yelp to find out what other people have to say and it is consistently rated the worst post office in all of Brooklyn. If I hadn't persisted, and gotten Fed Ex involved I would have lost my merchandise. The workers at the post office have no regard for people and their property. They obviously don't take their jobs seriously. They outright lie and are nasty and unhelpful. It's not fair to the people of this neighborhood and we shouldn't have to put up with such behavior and such horrible service. read more

I called the better business bureau about them and was referred a # for a "special post office service specialist". The lines are always long, the postal workers are the most incompetent, rude and nasty people you could ever hope to encounter. The hours in which you can find the lobby open are subject to change, contingent on the day or employees blood-alcohol level. But don't bother calling ahead to make sure they're open. This post office will send you pink slips for items that the postal worker supposedly "tried to deliver," but they did not really try. I know, because I work from home. They cannot miss me if they ring the bell (and they don't). Furthermore, this post office will track your package delivery as "delivered" a day or more before it will actually arrive at your door. I've never had a bad experience with the staff. In fact, all my interactions have been completely friendly. However, this branch recently lost I package I sent and never responded to any of my search requests or claims. I tracked the package using the USPS system and it took a trip around the country to then return to Brooklyn a week later and then simply disappear... They either got it destroyed/damaged, someone stole it, or lost it. Whatever it is, USPS doesn't respond nor care about its customers. I'm still a firm believer in USPS, I would never trade it for FedEx or UPS, and I think Congress needs to do the right thing and fund it properly. In the end, both the employees and us, the customer, are the one's that got hurt the most from the lack of attention to our postal service on the part of the federal government. read more

If it was possible to give this Post Office zero stars, I would. I filed "hold mail" order before a two week trip. I received a confirmation notice that my held mail would be delivered to my home on 8/22. It was not delivered that day or the next, so I went down to the P.O. in person. The employee said that my mail wasn't there and that her supervisor would call me. It is now Saturday the 25th and my mail still has not been delivered, and the supervisor never called me. I am trying to call all the companies that may have sent me bills while I was away, paying on the phone, asking my credit card companies for duplicate statements, and getting in touch with places and people who may or may not have sent deliveries or letters. I arrived at this USPS location at 5:10pm on Monday June 22, 2020 - Door was locked and location CLOSED despite the fact that operating hours are listed as 9:30am-6pm Mon-Friday. During the next 15 minutes while I was trying to call this location, about 20 people came up and tried to enter and were confused, then immediately angry that there was NO EXPLANATION why the door was locked. On the USPS website this location lists the lobby hours as 6am-6pm and yet no accesses allowed even to the lobby to check your P.O. Box. This Kensington, 11218 post office is the absolute worst location in Brooklyn with no regard for hours of operation or the people who live in this neighborhood. There used to be a local 718 phone number to this location, to verify hours etc, it has been removed from the website and replaced with the general 800 number that only provides an automated service that keeps you going around in circles until you give up because one would still like to retain a small part of one's sanity. They have LOST about 3 packages I was expecting in the last year alone. After filling out the Missing Mail form on the USPS website, the automated response tells you that you will be contacted by a representative within 24 hrs. That did not happen, but instead I received an email asking to REVIEW the USPS service regarding the missing mail case. After giving them a negative review I received no further communication from USPS. Perhaps letting this institution go bankrupt is the best option now considering they're not really doing a good job. I would like to rate this Kensington USPS location with ZERO stars or even - 10 stars if possible, but unfortunately I have to choose 1 star because otherwise Yelp will not allow to publish this review. read more
