This location is severely understaffed. I've only seen one staff member at the window (all the times I've visited) and lines are typically out the door. Also, they are too overwhelmed to follow on take away requests. My PO Box was supposed to be ready before my first visit but I've had to come back 4 times to follow-up on the request and I still don't have access. That being said, the lone staff member at the front of the house is always kind and friendly. She deserves a huge raise. I don't think I would as pleasant or even still be working there if I were her. read more

The service has improved by leaps and bounds! Obviously under-staffed, hope the manager can hire more clerks to assist with the public.

Back to being the worst post office in the city if not the entire country. Incredibly long lines that don't move. Never anyone working though you can hear them chatting and laughing. They had hire a couple of guys who were nice and efficient but they seem gone. Self service station is NEVER working. The other day it wanted log in information. Log in information?! I try my best not to come here anymore but occasionally I'm left with no choice and it is inevitably a nightmare. read more

This Kensington post office has improved its service, you should give them a try again. I have waited in line for stamps or to mail a package and it went pretty smoothly. The clerks are more competent than the ones at the Prospect Park West post office. read more

Miles better than the Prospect Park West little shop of horrors station. I came here on a weekday afternoon to find no line, masks and Purell in use, and a helpful post office employee who sorted out a hostage package situation for me. Apparently, UPS taped over the address label, obscuring my street address, and returned the package to USPS for address verification. However, such status was not reflected on the UPS or USPS sites, and it took a great deal of effort to figure out why my package was being held in limbo for a week. I do have to deduct one star for the faulty USPS online request form, which hits a snag every time one tries to submit it, forcing one to call an 800 number to do the same thing, only to eventually get an email back, all of which, in this case, did not resolve my issue. The second star deduction is for the initial post office employee who did not log the issue properly (or at all), such that I received no notice that my package was actually being held at this post office (or anywhere) and had to go out of my way to do gumshoe research. read more

I walked down there to send something- it was a return so I didn't purchase the label myself. got all the way there to drop it off and the lady said "no" then said "read what your package " after I looked at her confused. it was the end of the work day so we're probably both tired. I don't understand what she means by "read what your package is" so I read the label to her lol. and I look back up still confused and she goes "you still don't get it?" and I look down again and see it's UPS. lol. that's my fault but her being so rude about it was uncalled for. like we all hate our jobs no need to be rude to people. idk if it was bc I had a service dog with me or something but she entered that conversation acting like I had wronged her just by being there. could she have just said "that's a ups package?" probably. takes a lot of energy and time to be an a$$h*ole and significantly less to give people grace. read more

The experience I had today at the Kensington Post Office was very different from previous. Two attendants behind the counter, both quick and polite. They greeted each customer, apologized for any wait time and I sent my package with tracking to learn that it was dispatched and sent out within an hour. I left off a star because earlier, I had called the phone number to get updated hours, expecting a recording if no one answered, and there's no outgoing message even if no one answers the phone. It rings 30 times, then disconnects. Put an outgoing message with updated hours, please. read more

I come by this post office at least once a month to drop something off. I have never once walked out of this hell hole without witnessing at least one fight with an employee and a customer. I'm not talking about a disagreement about making sure the glass lever is down after you put your package down to weigh. I'm talking about full blown cursing, yelling and threatening your momma, your momma's momma and your momma's momma's momma. As a customer I have never waited less than 10 minutes on the line. Typically there is only 1 or 2 people working and people are PISSED at the carelessness, slowness and attitude of the employees working here. I'm very happy that there is a post office so close by, but this place is terrible. read more

Meh. I've noticed that lately my mail has been late and/or gone missing and arriving up to a few weeks later. Sure, one can file a claim on the USPS site (don't bother calling their 800 number b/c they've changed their phone system. You never get to speak to a person. Ever) and maybe that'll resolve your issue. Recently, I wasn't receiving any mail for about two weeks. I mean, nothing, not even junk mail. So, after cursing at the USPS maze of an 800 number, I figured out a better solution: Twitter. Pro Tip: you want an instant response? Tweet at USPS Help. You'll get an almost immediate reply and direct message. (You're welcome.) After a couple DM's with the USPS rep on Twitter, I actually got a hold of/spoke with (!)* my PO's supervisor and he personally handled the issue. Eventually, the problem was resolved. *Anyone who's attempted to call this PO knows that they *never* answer their phone. read more

Kudos to the post office with the sad single star for an excellent employee :) Long line of the customers with parcels outside Kensington post office was greeted by Sharon who invited us one by one to use self-service kiosk (recently installed) and thus I only can share my experience regarding this one employee. Sharon, you deserve to be named an employee of the century. Thank you! read more

USPS: Please shut this location down. Please let the employees go without pensions so our tax dollars can be used elsewhere. This neighborhood would be better off with no post office than with this one. At least no one would have to waste their time trying to do anything at this place. You can hear lots of employees shouting, laughing, and talking in the back while the line of customers grows. Sometimes the employees will keep on laughing and chatting back there for up to 30 minutes past when the office should be open - but no one will come out to help the customers. If you're lucky, one service window will open up. The person who greets you will make you feel like they hate that you are there. read more

US Post Office - There's a USPS employee, behind the window, not looking at you, closed for business. Get used to it. - Post Offices Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

A package made it all the way from Russia to this post office, who then managed to 'lose it' whilst it completed the last half a mile of its 4664 mile journey. This is the 3rd package they have 'lost' in 6 months. The staff are appalling, even for a unionized workforce. I don't buy the 'lost' excuse any more. It seems clear that from my experience, and the numerous other reviews here that someone there is stealing packages. I'll be taking this further with USPS, and if I get no joy from them, I'll be going to the feds. read more

Another zero star review. Mean, rude, self-serving, lazy gov't pensioners here. Free theater, just step back and watch. TIPS (if this, unfortunately, is your neighborhood P.O.): Send and receive everything with tracking, save your slips. OR, use the self-service machine (debit or credit only). OR, get the window farthest to the left where they seem to stick the nonconformists. OR, as of 11/17 new manager named Ms Hernandez, I believe, is awesome. The pit bulls in the other windows say the manager isn't in but step aside and call directly, 718/436-0164. She isn't afraid of actual work or the elusive thing called dialog. AND FINALLY, use the survey code at the bottom of your receipt and include the rude employee's name in your submission. And the award goes to this act observed recently at our lovely Kensington, Brooklyn USPS office, "Ma'am (to an elderly woman), we're on camera so it'll see you're asking me to move this box (turn it on the scale in the window). I have a exploded disk and not supposed to lift anything ANYTHING but it's on camera and you're insisting so .... (blah blah blah)." Enjoy! read more

This post office loses my mail. LOSES MY MAIL! How is this possible?? What the hell are they doing??! Are they throwing it away? Enjoying the $20 my mom sent me for Valentine's day despite the fact that I'm 30 and in a relationship? Are they reading my New York magazine as they do FUCK ALL and still get paid? Are they cashing the reimbursement check that my insurance company sent me? Seriously. Inquiring minds want to know. Should any of you out in Yelpland have the pleasure of visiting this post office to mail or pick up a package, bring the following with you: ID, a snack, a book, and a sedative. The Kensington Post Office was surely recalled when Dante wrote the Inferno as this place is one of the 7 levels of Hell. Oh and the post office makes NO attempt to deliver your packages and will invariably leave that dreaded salmon colored slip to let you know there's a package waiting for you at the post office. They claim to have attempted to deliver it, but no one was home. Seriously? My girlfriend was home all day to receive it. So yeah, they lie in addition to losing your mail. * * * * To answer the question if I or anyone on Yelp has used the 1-800 number to complain, yes I have but nada. I even have taken it many steps further and wrote letters to Congressmen Anthony Weiner and Yvette Clark -- the post office is a federal issue. I also wrote to Councilman Bill DeBlasio where a member of his staff emailed me for more information. A week or so later I received a letter on his letterhead and signed by him showing a copy of the letter they sent to the post office to complain. I don't know if it did any good, but it was satisfying at least to have that recognition by my elected official. Since DeBlasio's office was responsive, I urge you all to write him to complain. So unfortunately my neighborhood post office is Kensington, Brooklyn 11218 , New York. My husband and I regularly have packages delivered to us almost weekly. I am writing this after years of putting up with the horrendous service from the employees/letter carriers at said post office. The letter carrier NEVER rings the bell to deliver packages and always leaves that peach colored pick up slip EVERY SINGLE TIME! How can they say they attempted to deliver when they never do??? It's outright lying. The thing that pushed me over the edge and prompted me to write this review was something that happened earlier this month. I had ordered some merchandise from Kohl's and it was supposed to be delivered by Sept. 7th, 2013. When I still hadn't received it by Sept. 18th, I looked online to see what the status of the delivery was and it said it had been delivered. I called Fed Ex and they said they had left it at the Post Office and that's where it currently was. The same day I took down the tracking number and went down to the post office to pick up my package and the staff at the window was completely unhelpful. I told them the package had not been delivered, they insisted that it had. I told them to check in the back I provided my name and the tracking number. The lady reluctantly got out of her seat and rolling her eyes took a stroll to the back and came back after TEN SECONDS and said it wasn't there and to call a 1-800 number to report a lost package. I came back home and called Fed Ex back. They said that my package was indeed at the post office and they would enquire with the post office and I will have my package within 72 hours. Lo and behold, the next day September 19, 2013 there was a peach colored "pick up" slip for the package in my mailbox. But they had the AUDACITY to back date it... It stated that the attempted delivery had been on September 17, 2013 and this was my FINAL notice and if I didn't pick up my package it would be sent back to the sender on September 21, 2013. This is the kind of incompetence and lying we have put up with for the years that we have lived in this zip code. I have never come across such a dysfunctional and lazy postal staff. I took to yelp to find out what other people have to say and it is consistently rated the worst post office in all of Brooklyn. If I hadn't persisted, and gotten Fed Ex involved I would have lost my merchandise. The workers at the post office have no regard for people and their property. They obviously don't take their jobs seriously. They outright lie and are nasty and unhelpful. It's not fair to the people of this neighborhood and we shouldn't have to put up with such behavior and such horrible service. read more

The staff here is ridiculously rude for no apparent reason, the lines are extremely long with only one or two windows open, but all this could be ignored if it wasn't for the pink-slips. The pink-slips have to stop. These guys have one job to do: bring you your mail. Why is that so difficult for some of them? read more

This hot mess of a post office needs to be shut down. The people at staffing the windows are rude, mean and incompetent. I called the better business bureau about them and was referred a # for a "special post office service specialist". I called that number and that person was just as rude and unable/unwilling to help as the employees at the counters. They should fire everyone here and start over. These people are the reason the post office has a bad name. Pick any of the other post offices in the area, even if they are a little out of the way. The difference in service is beyond, beyond a million times better. I just can't believe these people still have jobs. Someone must be dead or smoking crack at the helm of this branch. One clerk actually said " you have no choice, you gotta come back here". Idiot, she should know better, we all have a choice. read more

From the reviews below, you can gather that this is indeed the WORST POST OFFICE in Brooklyn. Perhaps even in the continental United States. The lines are always long, the postal workers are the most incompetent, rude and nasty people you could ever hope to encounter. The hours in which you can find the lobby open are subject to change, contingent on the day or employees blood-alcohol level. But don't bother calling ahead to make sure they're open. Even though their phone number is listed as 718-436-0164 on the USPS.com website, these Federal Employees are incapable of answering it. Unless you HAVE to pick up a package from this location because you found a notification in your box, try to avoid this hell hole at all costs! read more

This post office will send you pink slips for items that the postal worker supposedly "tried to deliver," but they did not really try. I know, because I work from home. They cannot miss me if they ring the bell (and they don't). Furthermore, this post office will track your package delivery as "delivered" a day or more before it will actually arrive at your door. Oh, and forget about redelivery. Ha ha! read more

So this post office is GRRRRRR i don't lnow what words to use to describe it The long lines make me want to sit down in a corner and just Cry. Why are the employers so stubborn? if they were less stubborn and a bit active USPS would be loaded with $$$ instead of struggling! They don't smile or have a sign that says please go to next window. One time I waited on the stamp line to get a stamp.. The bi$$ch took a customer and left (possibly on her lunch break). She made me wait 30 min until someone who was fixing boxed inside told me that window is closed! Come on?! My time is precious too?! I have a life too and I get hungry too! The reason why I am obligated to go to this post office is because other post offices are farther away. I hoe they hire workers who really want the job! Smiling more makes u more beautiful! read more

I wish that I can give this place 0 stars. Here goes... you are lucky if your mail goes in the right box. Sometimes your boxes reflect as "delivered" but somehow you find yourself scratching your head because they weren't delivered to YOU. I've lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have had my share of issues with this branch, but I felt compelled to leave a positive review because yesterday one of the workers saved my hide. I had dropped off three packages for work only to find out on my way home I sent the wrong items. I hustled back to the branch to find all the packages in the self drop window gone. One of the tellers told me they were sorted and their wasn't anything she could do, but then looked to see if anyone was waiting in line (nobody was behind me) and said hold on. She went through a giant bin of packages to find mine. She went totally above and beyond and I'm grateful! read more

I wish Yelp would let me give NO STARS! Worst Post office ever! I have lived in the area for 6 years now and it has always been so bad here. I cannot believe with all the negative reviews everywhere that nothing is being done about this place. This place is a joke! Very very rude staff who give every customer attitude. I leave there angry every single time! They also do not leave packages or notices saying they "tried" to deliver. I have had packages just sitting in the post office with no word. I never thought I'd see my self giving a 1 star to a postal service, but oh my god! If it was possible i would have given this location no stars. Service was so horrible i am almost at loss of words. I don't know where to begin. The reviews i read about this place were totally true. First off, upon entering i could already hear the worker arguing with the customer, and the worker had a horrible attitude. The worker was legit yelling at the customer for no reason. It was just my luck as i happened to be next. As i got to the counter she told me that i had to take my label out because it was wrong, mind you that i printer my shipping label from the amazon website. The worker claimed i had to handwrite it. So as i did that and came back to her, she was like how the label is suppose to go on the package. Are you kidding me? Her excuse was she didn't realize i had already paid for the label. I just don't understand! So your telling me you didn't realize my label was paid for when you first saw it? She apologized for her mistake but yet continued to give attitude as if it was my fault. Like no honey! It was completely your fault, and fully your mistake. The worst postal service ever. If possible go to the next one that actually provides good customer satisfaction.
