After not receiving a package which this PO said was delivered i contact USPS using the 800 number and made a claim. 3 days later after two trips to the PO asking if they had the package i receive an dismissive e-mail from a PO supervisor (written like the person who wrote it was drunk) stating again that the package was delivered and placed in my mailbox. So after receiving this i contact the 800 number again. They read e-mail and then i tell um that if what they said were true id have the package because my mailbox is a locking mailbox of which i have the only key. At which time person on the other end of the phone sez "Oh". So, basically this PO never investigated the matter and then lied saying the package was delivered. With so many complaints about this PO there really needs to be something done about how its ran. read more

This post office redefines lazy and rude. I work at home all day, but I've frequently had to run to the post office to pick up packages because they're too lazy to even knock on my door and deliver it. Instead, they just leave the delivery slip, and I have to run around like a chicken with its head cut off to find my package. First I have to check with management to see if they got the package. Sometimes they say no, so they have to verify that it did not get mistakenly delivered to another apartment. It usually isn't delivered at all. Then I have to haul ass to the post office and wait in a long line because there's usually only two people serving the front desk. When I finally get to the end of the line, I get some surly lady who gives me attitude like it's my fault it didn't get delivered. She presses a few keys on a computer which I'm sure isn't even plugged in just so she looks busy in front of the impatient people in line. Then she slowly gets up, goes around the corner, and like magic, there's my package! You son of a...! When all is said and done, about an hour and a half of my day is wasted all because they didn't do the BARE MINIMUM required of them. I just have mail go to my wife's work now because they've been so terrible. Packages, netflix, even regular mail, goes through her work because they simply refuse to do their job. I'm sure they have no problem taking the paycheck. I think every single one of these lazy pieces of crap should be fired and forced to dance in a cheesy costume holding a sign in front of traffic advertising a car wash. On a hot summer day. At minimum wage. With no benefits. Maybe then, they'll get some perspective on how easy they have it. But until then, this lazy establishment will just kick around our packages until they get their pension at age 40 and retire. **** Oh and I almost forgot. I've been waiting for over a week and a half for my friend's wedding invitation. I get asked if it has arrived yet, but it's clearly lost. If it does arrive, it will undoubtedly show up water logged, smelling of sea water, and with a foot print on it. A few weeks after the wedding is over. You guys are down the street, what the hell happened? Are you utilizing sea gulls as carrier pigeons? Yet somehow the junk mail always seems to find its way into my mailbox. How many Alamedans on the west-central (NOT gold coast) have had this happen? You sign up for email notifications on package delivery. You get the email at 8:00 am or so saying IT'S OUT FOR DELIVERY, then you get another one around noon saying:AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP. What's the point of waiting for a delivery that won't be done? This place is a complete joke!! Someone needs to look into how they operate here because a government agency and should not be this unprofessional. I literally live right across the street from this post office and I was shocked to see a door slip for my package that said I missed the delivery and that my package was at the CONCORD OFFICE!! I was leaving town that day for a few days and I didn't want to go to the alameda post office with a CONCORD door slip like a fool so they could tell me that it was a slip for a different office, so I called the post office customer service and was on hold for 2 HOURS WITH NO ANSWER!!!! I called again the next day and was on hold for 1 hour with no answer. I went on their site to have the package held hoping they'll give me a location of where it was going to be but nope!! All it said was that it was on hold and I still wasn't going all the way to CONCORD to pick it up so I requested it to be redelivered but they wouldn't let me get it delivered on the day I got back so I just figured they'll attempt and leave another door slip so I can pick it up when I was back in town. NOPE! No door slip for the attempted redelivery so I go to the alameda office this morning and they said that my package was returned to sender. That my package was there the whole time EVEN THOUGH THE SLIP SAID IT WAS IN THE CONCORD OFFICE!!! How does that make any sense???!??!?! I like the self service kiosk but it's easy to misunderstand. Today I made an error buying postage on a stamp instead of the equivalent smaller number of stamps for the same amount. I an now swaying towards shutting down the postal service. I have no problems with service at the counter or the people at the counter but by delivery person is horrible. My postal person delivers packages for the wrong address, delivers empty boxes and drops/throws packages. I dropped off a package and realized a week later when I checked the tracking that it was never scanned in. I tried calling multiple times to inquire about it and no answer. I dread going into this place. The last trip the line was once again out the door and one of the tellers just wonders away leaving two to deal with the line. This was during the lunch rush. Then an elderly lady came in needing help with a form. Without making eye contact the teller said to her that she will have to find a friend or some to help her that he couldn't. I don't think it's possible to ever give a post office (or any other public service building) 5 stars, but the Alameda Post Office comes close. One of the disadvantages of living on a reclusive quasi-island like Alameda is that not everything you need is closeby. No big megamarts, no malls, no theatres, etc. What makes it good is that there is a lot less traffic; often only locals visit the places you want to go. This is true of the Post Ofice. As a result, it is seldom crowded. In the 4 years I lived there, I think the longest I ever waited in line was about 11 minutes. The staff got to know me, whenever I went on vacation, it was so easy to have them hold my mail. There is ample parking and it was located right next to Safeway, so it was so easy to get many of my errands done altogether. Damn, I miss Alameda. read more

#1 - Wrong hours listed. Not open until 5:30pm on weekdays. Closes at 5. Just submitted this on the form, hopefully yelp staff approve my change. #2 - Slow but effective. I've had mixed experiences here, and generally the lines are long and it really seems like there should always be one more teller every time I've been in. That said, they're friendly and I've always gotten what I needed to do, done. #3 - Really positive experience today. I went in, going on the listed hours where it said the place was open until 5:30. I got there at 5:10. A woman poked her head through the door into the hallway and said they were closed. "Oh no," I said, disappointed. "I just need to mail this one letter to England," I added. "And I also need an envelope." She said, "Well, we're closed, we've been closing at 5pm for over a year now. But hey, give me $1.15 and $.45 for the envelope." So I gave her some money, she went back in, came out a minute later with the international stamp and the envelope. Awesome service and friendliness! Fairly big post office. Line can get long, so be willing to wait. Or buy your shipping with the automated machine, my way of choice. There used to be a stamp vending machine, now you can buy ugly boring stamps with the automated machine (from what I remember there's a credit card minimum purchase on here) or you can wait in line to get cuter ones. Whole lot of PO Boxes. Parking is in the specified post office lot and the large South Shore parking lot. Free parking. Drop boxes along the shoreline if you just have letters/envelopes to go out. I look forward to getting a particular magazine every week. Several months ago I started getting it once every few weeks. We complained and it got better for a few months, now it's happening again. This place should have negative stars for their passport service. They have on their website that they accept walk-ins on Saturday, but when you arrive they have a sign on their door stating that they ONLY TAKE APPOINTMENTS ON SATURDAY. They give you a number to call, but when you call it no one picks up. On top of that, the staff are extremely rude and unempathetic about the miscommunication and lack of customer service. This is one of the best Post offices i have ever been. Great staff, also very polite and friendly. I never waited more that fifteen minutes in line, even though sometimes there was more that twenty people ahead of me. The building is spacious with plenty of parking space. I use their drive through almost every day. Also it is located right next to the Alameda Towne Center which only makes it more convenient. read more

We have a PO Box and it's a 50/50 shot whether we receive our mail or not. We have addressed it as "PO BOX" and "2201 Shoreline Drive" - there is zero consistency in receiving our mail successfully. Sometimes the mail is returned to sender and they contact us to resend which we then route to our jobs or family nearby to retrieve and sometimes it's lost altogether. We've talked to the staff numerous times and no one knows anything or has any suggestions for a solution. They just shrug and say "that's weird" and "that shouldn't have happened" but no one has ever found a valid way to stop this from happening. read more

Their website states passport walk in hours 9-2 on Saturdays. We show up at 7am to be first in line when they open at 9. To find out website is wrong. Appointments only on Saturdays. Fix your website and post something on door stating this. Otherwise wouldn't have froze our butts off waiting in lobby for 2 hours for nothing. Worst Post Office ever. Lost a month of my mail, including 6 paychecks. They Literally got the biggest meanest looking guy in the office to strong arm me into not taking action against their wrongdoing. I was about to move into a house and there was an issue with it. I went to them and said I wouldn't have an address for a month what should I do, I still need my mail and paychecks. A women there suggested I put a stop on my mail and pick it up at the post office. They just lost it all and wouldn't answer any questions for 3 weeks claimIng it takes time. I was so frustrated I called some govt number theY gave me. Never got a call back. I had to return a parcel to Japan and since it was a product return (because I had received a wrong item) I didn't want to spend big bucks on the shipping return. Paul was very helpful and patient with me even though there was the holiday rush and I was that one customer that took up more time than usual since the address was a foreign address. Paul even helped me pick out the cheapest shipping rate (I had to go over to the mailing box stand and grab a new mailing package for the cheaper rate). At no time was he ever agitated with how unprepared I was. He even let me take the time to take a picture of the parcel before its shipping since I wanted proof to the business I was returning the product. They purposely ignore all of their phone calls. It's impossible to get anybody over the phone here, even if you try calling on a daily basis several times a day. I expect more from a government service. Answer your phone calls, or come up with a new way to communicate from a distance. It's not that hard. What's more is that some employee shut the door in our faces. We arrived in the building just as she was preparing to close it. We had a few minutes before 5, but when she saw us heading to the door, she hurriedly shut it in our faces and locked it in front of us. We were simply coming to pick up 1 package after being unable to get anyone on the phone ALL DAY. This lady could have helped us for 1 minute of her time, but she decided to be a jerk instead. Oh, but there's a catch. The package we were coming to pick up WASN'T EVEN DELIVERED to us, but the tracking said a notice was left at our door, as no one was avaliable to take the package. There was no notice anywhere to be found AND we were both home when the "attempted delivery" was made. It's like the person doing the delivery didn't feel like getting out of their car to deliver our package. They just gave it directly to the post office and made it a big problem for us to go receive it. These people should be fired and USPS should replace them with competent employees. This isn't the first time I've had major difficulties recieving my mail, either. This place is a disaster and nobody employed there deserves the pay and benefits they receive for their "hard work." Passport office has the worst possible service. The gentleman working the office is incredibly rude. I waited an hour a week ago to be told he couldn't see me because he had enough people in line. Understandable, however he should have mentioned there was a limit prior to me wasting an hour of my time. I show up this morning, 20 minutes before they open so I don't have to wait and he says he can't see a handful of people because they only take appointments now. There were only two people there with appointments! I agree with an earlier post, this dude needs to find another job or work back office where he doesn't have to interact with people. When I request a pick up, they never pick up on the day requested and then say they picked up on the next day, when there were no packages to pick up. They stated they delivered my packages on holidays (like recently this past Columbus Day) and never received the actual item. Didnt know the PO was open on holidays! My mailbox is a secure mailbox. Sometimes my letter mail is laying next to the floor by my mailbox. Ive had to file 5 claims which have been paid for by the USPS since this branch takes my packages. I now have cameras installed for video confirmation that they in fact never deliver those packages or pick up my mail. This branch needs a serious overhaul with its staff. The worst! I came here to get a passport after 2pm and was not able to be seen because the ONE guy that processes passports will only see the first 10 people after he returns from lunch. He will count off and send everyone else home. They are supposed to open at 8:40am and he didn't open the door until 9! My husband got here at 8am and was the first in line because we don't have hours to waste, but because their photocopy machine is broken we had to go to Office Max. We let the person behind us go ahead which took 10 min. Then the guy disappears for 10 MINUTES with a room full of people!!! He comes back sits on his computer and starts playing Fetty Wap. WTF?! This whole experience makes me mad at the government and politicians who make hundreds of thousands playing golf, but somehow our tax dollars can't afford to hire one extra person at the post office to process passports so there aren't at least 20 people in line at any given moment!! Passport Appt. phone number NEVER answered. You need to bring the following: Color copy of your ID, both front and back, birth certificate and 2 separate checks. One for $85 and the other for $25. Most importantly if you have a child under the age of 16, THEY MUST BE PRESENT so yes they will miss a day of school or at least 3 hours of school. The guy who processes the passports NEVER smiles, is mean as heck, unprofessional and does not look at you when you ask him a question. VERY RUDE!!! Bring a picnic chair if you have one because you will be there for at least 3 hours standing in line. AND ONE MORE THING...when it opens, the guy does not open the door to let you know they are open, HE ONLY UNLOCKS IT FROM THE INSIDE HAHAHAHA! What a joke!!! This place SUCKS! read more
