We are incredibly grateful for the care and compassion we received from UrgentPaw during one of the hardest moments our family has experienced. When it became time to say goodbye to our beloved 12-year-old Lab, Mac, we had hoped to find an in-home ve to help him pass peacefully in the comfort of his own home. Unfortunately, no one was available, and we were desperate to find an option for our sweet boy. I remembered seeing wonderful reviews about UrgentPaw, so I called to see if they could help us... and I am so thankful that I did. From the moment we arrived, we were met with the warmest, most compassionate care. The staff brought out a gurney and gently helped us transport Mac from our car into the facility. They placed us in a private, dimly lit room with a comfortable couch and calming music playing in the background. Mac was placed on a cozy dog bed and given some water while we spent our final moments with him. The vet techs, doctor, and everyone we encountered at UrgentPaw were incredibly kind, gentle, patient, and sympathetic to what our family was going through. They treated Mac with so much dignity and love, and they gave us the time and space we needed to say goodbye. Saying goodbye to a family member is never easy, but UrgentPaw made an unimaginably difficult experience as peaceful and comforting as it could possibly be. We are so grateful for their support, compassion, and exceptional care of Mac and our family. We truly couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, UrgentPaw, for taking such wonderful care of our sweet Mac. read more

I struggled with whether to write this review because the vet and vet techs were genuinely very nice, and the facility itself is clean, modern, and convenient. However, after discussing my experience with other ER vets and experienced cat owners, I feel it's important to share what happened, especially for pet owners who may not know what is or isn't appropriate handling during stressful procedures. I brought my 11-year-old cat, Donut, in because he had been vomiting, crouching, and had not had a bowel movement for several days. They recommended bloodwork, urinalysis, and X-ray, all of which I agreed to. My biggest concern was how my cat was restrained, man-handled, and hog-tied (flipped over and held aggressively and tied with both hands and feet) during these procedures. Donut became extremely distressed during bloodwork and was aggressively pinned down. During the urinalysis and ultrasound, he was restrained by his legs and body and held down while crying, kicking, screaming, and struggling. I was upset, and asked whether this was normal, and I was told that it was. He was then taken out of the room for X-rays, where I could hear him crying, kicking, and screaming from down the hallway. The blood draw also had to be repeated because the first sample was apparently spilled, meaning he went through the procedure again while already extremely distressed. The X-ray showed constipation, so they recommended injecting fluids, an anti-nausea injection, and an enema injection (in the butt). During the treatment, he was again heavily restrained, hog-tied, and aggressively pinned down. I also noticed blood around his anus before the enema injection and asked whether it was safe to proceed. I was told it was likely from straining, and the enema was performed anyway. Afterward, Donut passed the enema solution, some blood, and only a very small amount of stool. That night, he developed bloody/brown mucus brain like discharge and remained in extreme pain, restless, and crouching. The bloody/brown mucas brain-like discharge was likely caused from the extreme stress and enema injection they shoved up in his butthole that appeared to have not been done that gently. He barely slept for days afterward. He was later evaluated at another ER and diagnosed with pancreatitis. What concerns me most is that all of this happened within roughly 1-1.5 hours: bloodwork (twice), urinalysis, ultrasound, X-ray, fluid injection, anti nausea injection, and an enema injection, while he was experiencing EXTREME fear, distress, trauma throughout much of the process. I understand that veterinary procedures aren't always comfortable and that restraint is sometimes necessary. My concern is the degree of restraint (man-handling, aggressive pin-down and hog-tying) and the lack of effort to reduce his anxiety before and during the procedures. My regular vet had previously recommended gabapentin (mild anti-anxiety sedative) before stressful situations such as car rides and veterinary procedures because Donut becomes extremely anxious. I wish this had been discussed before putting him through so many stressful procedures. The experience had a lasting effect on him. For weeks afterward, he was extremely fearful and had difficulty settling or sleeping. Even now, seeing his carrier or getting into the car can trigger significant anxiety because he associates it with that experience. The next day, I took Donut to VCA Animal Specialty Group in Glendale, where he received additional ER care and follow-up with an internal medicine vet. The difference in my experience was significant. The wait was much longer, but the vets took the time to explain options, discuss his anxiety and condition, and communicate with me afterward. I also shared what happened at UrgentPaws with the vets there and my experienced pet friends, and they expressed concern about the level of restraint I described. To be fair, there are positives: the facility is very clean, there was essentially no wait (but the no wait speaks volume as I've never been to a vet or ER vet with no wait or patients..), the staff were friendly, and the open-concept setup allows owners to see much of what is being done. However, for me, those positives do not outweigh what my cat experienced during the visit. I am sharing this because I wish I had known more beforehand. If you are taking your pet in for multiple diagnostic procedures, I strongly recommend asking how they plan to minimize fear and what anxiety-management options are available before consenting to the procedures. Most importantly, I regret not knowing enough at the time to recognize how distressed Donut was and advocate more strongly for him. I hope other pet owners can learn from my experience and ask questions before their pets go through something similar. read more

My 17 year old dog started peeing blood for the first time ever on a Saturday. It was in the afternoon so our regular vet was closed, we felt so helpless. We decided to go to UrgentPaws in Duarte and we are so thankful that we did! The staff was kind, compassionate, understanding, and very helpful. I love that they let us know that they had an open door policy so we could accompany our fur baby during any procedures. It helped me feel so much better to be by my baby's side during such a scary time. The staff explained everything they were doing and why, and in terms of pricing, spending the money felt worth it to ensure my dog's utmost safety. They even made sure to discuss treatment plans in including pricing to ensure everything was OK, both with my doggie and financially. We were out of there with treatment and medications in 3 hours which is much faster than I would've thought. HUGE thank you and shout out to the staff!! Thank you for being so caring and understanding during our time of need. read more

ER visits have never been fun for us. We had poor experiences in the past with doctors ignoring our concerns and misdiagnosing our pets. They have become traumatized and get very anxious even at the mention of the vet. UrgentPaws really changed our opinion of ER visits! We have been here twice now. Their team is incredible and you can really see that they genuinely care for animals. The treatment room has windows visible from the common area so you can see them working on our pets. This just shows they have nothing to hide and value transparency. The facility is super clean and lowkey aesthetically pleasing. Upon checking in, you will be lead into a private room where you have the consultation and finish the rest of the appointment. This makes the biggest difference for us because our pets are a lot more calm when they have their own space. We cannot recommend Urgent Paws enough. Thank you to the team here for giving Tofu and Toto the care they need and for being so kind to them. For the first time, they both left the ER visit happy and not shaking with fear. read more

We were in a bit of a rush and looked up UrgentPaws on Yelp to bring our german shepherd doggo to after she had complications with her diet and recent surgery. Our past experiences with vets have been hit or miss so we were on the nervous side but the staff at UrgentPaws were SO incredibly kind and patient. Hershey (our doggo) got all the works and got extra love even though she was a pooping machine in their back room (hah). She also did a number in our car so the staff offered cleaning supplies for us and didn't even flinch when our second dog was extra vocal towards them lol. An incredible thank you to the staff and the doctor who performed an ultrasound and found a huge mass under our doggos spine for which we are now taking care of. They also called us a couple days later to check up on our girl. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH TEAM :') read more

My dog was recently diagnosed with puppy strangles by his primary vet, so when something new came up on Friday afternoon, I wasn't sure if it was related to the strangles or something completely different. Of course, this happened at 5:30 on a Friday, and I was immediately in a panic trying to decide whether I should take him to urgent care or wait and see if it improved over the weekend. I decided to call the urgent care first to see what they recommended, and ultimately decided it was better to be safe than sorry. I filled out the "Save Your Spot" form online and drove over. They got us right in, although I know that isn't always guaranteed. We first met with the technician and then the doctor, who thoroughly examined my dog and came up with a great plan for moving forward. I left feeling reassured that I had made the right decision by bringing him in. I am so happy I went! Everyone was friendly, compassionate, and genuinely caring. It was such a positive experience during a stressful situation, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs urgent veterinary care. Thank you for taking such great care of my pup! read more

This is the best veterinary office I've ever been to! First of all, the facility is gorgeous and exceptionally clean. I was playing ball in the backyard with my fur baby and didn't notice that a vase had knocked over, which lacerated his carpal pad to the point that it was almost detached completely. He was profusely bleeding and it was after hours so we searched for the closest emergency vet. I am BEYOND glad that I chose Urgent Paws. From the moment we carried him in, everybody was so incredibly attentive and kind. They let us stand beside him during check in and each one of their staff members exuded such a calm, kind presence. They explained everything to us clearly and from such an empathetic stand point. Most importantly, they worked with us to find a med plan that would work within our budget. Dr. Brown is amazing and did a phenomenal job. Our pup needed stitches and everything was very reasonably priced. When it came time to discharge, they walked us into a room and even brought a blanket for Gryffin to lay on.. it's the little things that matter and I can attest with my whole heart that they REALLY love/care for animals here. I think the cutest thing is that they spoke to him directly, just like how I would! The interaction was so heartwarming and truly adorable. I was so touched by all the staff and Dr. Brown. Your baby is in good hands here! read more

So where do we start... Our family dog got viciously attacked by a pitbull while taking his daily walk on a leash. We took him to our vet right away, but really couldn't see any marks due to his dense hair, but was advised by the vet, if we see anything, come right back. The following week while giving him a bath, that's when we noticed a puncture in his skin the size of a quarter! We took him right back to the vet and he advised we go somewhere where they would accommodate surgery if needed. After calling MULTI places, I finally found Urgent Paws (and although it was 15miles out) we decided with all the great reviews, we would take him here. On the phone, the assistance was great, and even when we walked in (we were the ONLY ones there) the VA's where great. Gentle with the dog, caring, petting him for assurance. Then we waited for almost 15mins + for Dr. Brown to come in. Right off the bat, her vibe was not assuring. My dog did not feel comfortable with her AT ALL. From the door, she had the VA give us a muzzle to put on my dog (which I understand for some dogs may get vicious). She then comes, checks his pulse, just LOOKS at the wound (doesn't even TOUCH IT) and walks out. 15+mins later, the VA comes in with the estimate of procedure. The exam fee was $141 They stated we needed surgery (once again without even really LOOKING at his wounds) and the cost would be $2500+ - $3500+ depending. AND that doesn't guarantee that they would be even ABLE to finish the procedure. If during the procedure they feel they cannot finish, then we would need to get transferred to ANOTHER facility. They told me I can get some time to think about it, BUT if I decide to come back the next day, since it would be ANOTHER doctor that would be looking at our dog, they would charge us ANOTHER $75 and the assessment from THAT doctor might be different. WHAT! It seemed like they were just out there for the money.. So, I decided to call my friends with pets and contacted The Veterinary Care Center in Hollywood. They were REALLY friendly, and I got a spot for the next day @ 10:30am. When we arrived, staff was great. Didn't have to wait long for Dr. Klem to come in. He was SO friendly, even got comfortable with my dog, and was looking around his whole body not just for that one injury, but incase he had others from the attack. They gave me different options, but I was told that he did NOT need surgery, and if they cleaned the wound, it would eventually heal itself within a month. BUT If we really did want surgery, it would cost $1500 - $1900 (due to his age and weight). OMG! The best place ever! AND their assessment charge was only $85 VS Urgent Paws $141.. Urgent Paw's Fee $141 (nothing done) The Veterinary Care Center Fee $455.65 (everything included with a happy dog) I'm sorry, but I would NEVER come back here again.... Dr Brown, at least feel out the pets and see their wounds before giving an assessment. read more

Gem of a find for pet owners! They have great hours for busy pet owners because emergencies don't typically happen during business hours. My dog had pink eye and because he was also somewhat lethargic we didn't want to wait until Monday. Found them on google and they had amazing reviews so decided to give them a try. The visit did not disappoint. You can reserve a spot online. Once you arrive you are immediately greeted by a vet assistant and taken to a private room for intake. Christina was so helpful and sweet! Dr. Brown was also so great with our boy. The entire team makes you feel so at ease taking your pet to their care. The facility is beautiful! Modern decor and clean as well! All the suites have huge windows so you can see everything that's happening around you. You are also welcome to go inside the back office and see personally how well your pet is taken care of. The staff will come and go over pricing and treatment plans with you once the doctor examines your pet and prices are definitely fair priced and transparent. Their location is very convenient, located inside the target plaza. You can also run to get some groceries while your pet is being taken care of. Overall a great experience. Will definitely be back for future pet needs! read more

Having three kitties with chronic health issues, I have had quite a bit of experience navigating the animal health system. I have spent quite a bit of time in a lot of different vet offices with many different veterinarians and vet techs. My experience with UrgentPaws was absolutely excellent. The office space itself is well kept and clean. For any vet office, let alone an urgent care, the environment is also very calming. We were able to easily book an appointment for our oldest cat online within the same hour. Within moments of doing so, someone from the office called to triage our baby and make sure their office would be able to help. From that phone call to arriving at the office, every staff member we interacted with was truly spectacular. You can tell that each one of them genuinely and deeply cares about the animals they treat. While at the office, our kitty was seen by Dr. Hinz, who is truly an amazing and brilliant doctor. She was so thorough in her assessment and treatment of our cat and made sure we felt secure and fully informed during the entire process. There was not a single moment that we felt rushed or dismissed by her or any of the staff, which was so deeply appreciated. Reading other reviews, I saw people complain about wait times and cost. Yes, there can be periods of waiting, but this is an Urgent Care after all and pet patients have different levels of need and urgency. Also, yes, the cost of exam is a bit pricier than your average, standard care exam, but this is to be expected at an urgent care. I did not find the prices to be unreasonable given the context of the environment. If you need urgent care for your pets, I wholeheartedly recommend UrgentPaws. read more

We had to bring our orange tabby to UrgentPaws in Duarte because we were concerned he might have a urinary blockage. Overall, we were extremely happy with our experience. We felt the pricing was fair for an urgent care visit and the diagnostics that were performed. If any of our five pets ever need urgent or emergency care again, we wouldn't hesitate to bring them back. Location UrgentPaws is conveniently located in the same shopping center as Target with plenty of parking. It's also very easy to access from the 210 Freeway. Appointments Although UrgentPaws accepts walk-ins, I was able to reserve a spot online through their "Save My Spot" feature, which helped reduce our wait time. We were seen almost immediately after arriving. Facility One of the things we appreciated most was the open-concept layout, including the treatment area. Unlike many veterinary clinics where pets are taken "to the back," the staff invited us into the treatment room so we could stay with our cat and comfort him during his procedures. Staff Every staff member we interacted with was kind, professional, and compassionate. Dr. Rodriguez and Val did an excellent job explaining what was happening, answering all of our questions, and helping us prioritize our cat's care. Even after our visit Val called the next day to check on him and help answer our questions, which we truly appreciated. Price We felt the pricing was reasonable for an urgent care visit and the diagnostics that were needed. We have paid more at our regular veterinarian for similar diagnostics during a routine appointment. We especially appreciated that they clearly explained what was recommended and why, allowing us to make informed decisions about our cat's care without feeling pressured. Throughout the visit, the staff kept us informed and made sure both we and our cat were comfortable. We hope we don't need another urgent veterinary visit anytime soon, but if we do, UrgentPaws will be our first choice. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate, transparent, and professional urgent veterinary care. read more

What a wonderful experience - despite the nerves that brought us here yesterday. When our 12yo Miniature Pinscher started exhibiting very concerning spinning behavior and appeared to be in pain, we were extremely worried. From the moment we walked in, Omega and the entire staff immediately put us at ease. Remarkably, even Bubba stopped spinning uncontrollably and seemed to feel secure (as if he somehow knew he was in good hands!). The facility itself is incredibly clean, spacious, welcoming, and inviting. We also deeply appreciated being allowed to accompany old Bubs to the lab area while an uncomfortable procedure was performed. Being there with him eased our anxiety and, more importantly, helped him feel calmer and less alone. Omega truly went above and beyond, even offering thoughtful advice about selecting a muzzle for unrelated training goals we have - something that had nothing to do with the reason for our visit. That kind of care and generosity stood out. We felt genuinely embraced as pet parents, but what spoke volumes was our typically anxious little guy's transformation. He went from scared and clearly uncomfortable to visibly secure and relaxed in what was undoubtedly a difficult moment for him. read more

My regular vets office and specialty vet could not get my pet in same day and they both suggested Urgent Paws on Huntington in Duarte. They are in the Target shopping center. They open at 3 pm. I went online and reserved the 3:15 time slot. When I arrived I was escorted directly into an exam room. The office is clean and peaceful. We were seen by Dr Deborah Morey. She was gentle and calm and asked questions and listened to my responses. I got to go back with my pup while they did some tests which was nice for me and my pup. They were very reasonable for emergency services. Recommended I follow up with our regular vet in about 10 days when the antibiotics were finished. She explained a lot of things that educated me for future reference and did not order unnecessary tests. I really felt that my pup was in good hands. I would definitely go here again for an emergency situation. All the staff were professional and personable. It was a great experience. read more

This is such a wonderful business to have in Duarte-very reasonable for urgent care services and the staff tailors everything to your pet even to the design of the rooms. I wasn't pressured to have X-rays and the vet even said x-rays are expensive so let's try this instead- they start off with the most minimum and go from there. At any other place they would have said ok if the dog is limping we need x-rays first because that's happened time and time again. I wasn't rushed and the vet stayed talking with me giving me food ideas and we were on Amazon together figure out supplements. The next day, they called to check on my baby and they emailed me her records. If I could give 10 stars I would-Urgent Paws team-Delilah says thank you!!! read more

Communication at this clinic was great. When we arrived the staff was dealing with what appeared to be a life or death situation. They let us know an approximate wait time and had us check in. They later put us in a room and provided a little mat for our dog to lay in. The nurse later came in and did an intake on my dog and her symptoms. She let us know the doctor was still handling the situation from when we arrived and offered us something to drink. They took my pet back to have her physical exam brought her back in less than 10 minutes. The doctor sat with us asked us more questions, explained his diagnosis, then provided us with a treatment plan. He gave us different cost based on the options he presented. We left the clinic with meds and peace of mind. The place very clean and modern. read more

First, I want to say that it's never easy when a beloved pet is suddenly in urgent need of care. In my case, my cat--who means the absolute world to me--was showing abnormal behavior in his litter box, so I immediately took him to Urgent Paws. One of the things I appreciated most about this clinic is its open and transparent environment. The space is designed with glass walls, so you can see exactly what the doctors are doing. From the waiting area to the exam rooms, everything feels clean, professional, and welcoming. The staff is also incredibly friendly and clearly dedicated to the animals they care for. Fortunately, my cat did not have a blocked bladder, but he did have crystals in his urine. The doctors took their time to answer all of my questions--even when I asked them more than once, just trying to fully understand a confusing situation. They made sure I felt informed and reassured throughout the process. I was seen almost immediately and never left waiting long. A few days later, I returned when my cat showed some concerning behavior again. Thankfully, it was just a scare and nothing serious, but once again, the team saw me right away and gave me peace of mind. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the care we received. Urgent Paws is a place I trust and will absolutely return to if my cat ever needs urgent attention in the future. read more
