I was very disappointed with my experience at this store. I originally came in to purchase a new skateboard, but the owner was only selling it as a bundle with a shirt. Since I wasn't familiar with the clothing brand, I wasn't sure how their sizing would fit. After making the purchase, I returned a short time later to ask if I could exchange the shirt for a different size. Unfortunately, the owner refused to allow a simple size exchange. I wasn't asking for a refund or trying to return the skateboard, just hoping to get a shirt that actually fit. Although the owner was initially helpful, his attitude came across as rude and dismissive when I asked about the exchange. It's disappointing to spend money supporting a local skate shop and receive this kind of customer service, especially over something as simple as changing a shirt size. I would have appreciated a little more understanding and flexibility. Unfortunately, this experience has made me hesitant to shop here again. read more

Disappointing Experience - Poor Attitude and Unprofessional Behavior Unfortunately, our experience at URBN Skate Shop in Chula Vista was far from pleasant. We initially thought the gentleman helping us was nice, as we had been having a conversation with him. However, as the conversation continued, his attitude quickly changed the impression we had of him. He went on to speak negatively about other skate shops, referring to their boards as cheap, swap-meet merchandise, or something along those lines. What made this even more disappointing was that another local business had actually referred us to his shop. Instead of showing appreciation for that referral, he spoke poorly about other businesses. He repeatedly bragged about being the best skateboard seller in all of San Diego, claimed to have sold over 10,000 skateboards, and described himself as famous. Rather than coming across as knowledgeable and passionate about skateboarding, his comments came across as cocky and arrogant. The most awkward part was when I simply asked him his name. After carrying on a conversation with him, I thought it was a perfectly reasonable question. His response? "I'd rather not say." Seriously, who responds that way to a customer having a normal conversation with them? There is a difference between being confident in your business and making customers uncomfortable by putting down other businesses and boasting about yourself. A good business owner should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience without the arrogance or disrespect. We came in expecting a positive experience and left feeling disappointed by the attitude and lack of professionalism. Being knowledgeable about skateboards is one thing, but how you treat people matters just as much. Unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired, and this experience did not leave us wanting to return. A little humility and basic courtesy would go a long way. As for board selection... it lacks. read more

Took a friend in who'd just bought a second hand board and wanted it checked out. No upsell was piled on. No knocking a board they didn't sell. Just happy to check it out for us and make sure it was safe. Not even a discussion about billing us for it. There was a recommendation for better bearings, which we took. But, again, the no pressure vibe made the recommendation so much easier to trust. We also got to meet the dogs, which was super cool. Exactly the kind of small business I LOVE supporting. I bought a complete from them for 150 (had a real low quality warped deck, basic blank wheels & hardware, mini logo grip & bearings.) the deck snapped after 6 hours and they gave me a new one because it clearly snapped like a toothpick but they mad me pay an additional 7.50$ for mini logo grip again! they don't know much about skating and they do not have very good quality boards. I hate giving bad reviews, but this is an exception. My husband went to this shop ready to buy a board for my son (skate camp) and support a local business during covid, rather, he was verbally harassed by the salesman. I would like to precurse this statement with my husband is a very kind and patient man. I am not. My husband came in today with a specific board and goal in mind, but the man aggressively/rudely pushed his own agenda and pushed a a board that was far more expensive (and not what my husband wanted). My son is a beginner and we weren't looking for something that would last forever, just a good starter board. First he insulted my husband's experience and intelligence by asking, "do you even KNOW how to skate?" Also, my husband wanted to know a logical reason for the board the salesman was pushing and his response was " because [my son] would get bullied." Finally, my husband asked "could you at least educate me as to why I shouldn't get [the board he wanted]?" And the man's calloused response was "that's the camp's job!" During difficult times like these, I would love to give grace, but this man and this company has lost all our respect. We ended up buying a board from the Vans store from a very king and non condescending young man. read more
