The day I bought it, I wasn't planning on buying one but I was going to the beach in I.B. and I came across this skate shop so i figured I would peep it out for fun; I'm effing glad I did. I was browsing around the store and through the decks for about fifteen minutes before I even considered actually buying a new deck. I met Salvador senior and Salvador Jr who are super chill guys, laid back, knowledgeable and just rad guys, seriously. So, after testing out about seven blank decks, i finally found the right size and it was a go. I ended up buying a blank deck, black magic grip tape, bones bearings and shorty's hardware for $35!!!!! Since the wheels I had on my trucks were beyond rusted, it took the father and son team over an hour to take off the wheels and intense hammering to remove the bearings. Not only that, they also threaded the axle on my trucks to remove any rust to refurbish them, polished everything and lubricated the wheels and bearings. I can't believe how helpful these guys were. I owe them big time! I ended talking to the son for a while and he hooked me up with a skate shop T, skate magazines and a handful of stickers. No doubt about it, I'm going to continue on coming here. I.B.s best skate shop! Wait, South Bay's best skate shop!!

Of course, skating by the sea with incredible views next to The Del sounds amazing in theory. Overall, we had fun. BUT, the company who runs the rink (not affiliated with the hotel) does almost everything wrong safety-wise. 1. Expensive. Adults and kids alike pay $40 for 90 minutes of skating. You buy your tickets online and choose your time to skate, but the reservation times aren't monitored which results in overcrowding on the ice and UNSAFE conditions. If you're not an experienced skater I would recommend wearing a helmet- especially for the littles!! 2. SO MUCH WATER on the ice. Virtually no maintenance or resurfacing of the ice! Literally skating through puddles, kids falling all over the place and getting soaked. 3. Staff running the rink are very young- no one looked over the age of 20- they all seemed inexperienced and not intervening on the ice when they should (kids skating too fast, going the wrong way, etc). Felt chaotic. 4. Not enough skate monitors out on the ice. Most of the time the staff were seemingly invisible and did next to nothing to help when people fell. One kid hit the back of his head quite hard and another skater helped him more than the staff did. 5. THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE skates ever. My daughter has blisters and my ankles are bruised from the hard plastic rubbing against them. 5. No cubbies or lockers to store your shoes, etc. while skating. So disorganized! 6. No decent seating areas or shade for general seating unless you want to pay ridiculous prices for igloo reservations. Overall we had fun, but I am thankful that my kids and I got out of there without breaking any bones!

I cannot share enough good things about Jim Bell Skateboard Ramps…read more After calling and emailing so many different companies to try to get custom-made skate ramps, I was feeling incredibly discouraged. Many businesses never returned my calls or emails, and others were outright unkind -- including experiences that were transphobic, ableist, or dismissive in ways that were genuinely hurtful. From the very first interaction, Jim was the complete opposite. Jim was kind, compassionate, respectful, and incredibly understanding. He listened carefully to my needs, took my health and accessibility concerns seriously, and made me feel safer, understood, and valued throughout the entire process. He is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, and it shows -- he answered all of my questions thoroughly and went above and beyond to make sure the ramps would truly work for me, not just meet basic specs. It is rare to find a business owner who combines this level of skill and professionalism with genuine human decency and inclusivity. Jim Bell Skateboard Ramps is a truly inclusive, accessibility-aware business that clearly cares about people, not just sales. Because of Jim, I am so excited to be getting my custom 2-foot quarter pipes built. I'll be posting photos once they're complete, and I honestly cannot wait. If you are looking for custom skate ramps, stop searching and contact Jim Bell Skateboard Ramps. If you want to work with someone who is talented, inclusive, accessibility-aware, and genuinely cares about their customers, do not hesitate to reach out. I highly, highly recommend Jim. Thank you so much, Jim, for being such an amazing human and for making this experience such a positive one.

Jim came out personally to check out our space, and we worked together on customizing the original ramp to fit both our layout and our skating ability. He and his crew showed up exactly when they said they would, treated our property with care, and the build went off without a hitch. The craftsmanship is incredible -- solid, clean, and clearly built to last. Someone once told me Jim is the best ramp builder in San Diego, and after working with him, I 100% agree. He was respectful of our timeline, easy to communicate with, and by the end of the install, it honestly felt like we'd known him for years. Can't recommend him enough.
