Great neighborhood type brewery! I will preface this by saying I actually don't care for beer, but I appreciate that this bar does offer cider and, my favorite, a delightful sparkling rose! The interior is spacious (no ac though so watch out when it's a hot summer day) and well lit, is good for gathering groups of people and there appears to be one food truck always parked outside offering food, today I believe it was a slider truck! The outdoor patio is also a great size and there is a parking lot that is a decent size, but if you don't find it there then street parking (with no pesky parking meters) is available which is awesome. They have plenty of space indoor and out, and their rotating tap list always has great options in a variety of styles seasonally (loved the Keiser). First time here a few weeks back. Definitely a cool space! This is a self serve place. You have to wait in a line(if there's one) for anything not named water. Love a good food truck and enjoyed tacos with a perpetual fog inside. At first, I was digging the family friendly vibe but as cute as the kids were, it started to become less enjoyable quickly. These kids and parents looked like regulars. (Mug club) Nobody was out on control, so it was far from bad, just not something I'd prefer. We moved outside to a picnic table and enjoyed a couple of easy buttons in the shade. A few patrons had their dogs, which was fine as there were no issues with the pups. This place was a converted warehouse and it's a truly unique spot for a visit. We found this place by chance and have found ourselves coming back quite often. It's surprisingly a great place for kids as there is a lot to do and play with for kids. They host food trucks and offer a couple charcuterie boards and starters to eat while you enjoy their delicious beers. They have a wide selection of apparel and it's relatively cheap compared to most places. They offer 2 rooms for hosting parties, both of which have closing doors for increased privacy. Cool spot downtown Ferndale. Their IG page is filled with boozy vegan sundaes. Unfortunately, I ordered the pumpkin spice one that advertises vegan cake from Spacecat V-stro. The ice cream/custard isn't/wasn't vegan the day I ordered. Huh? Why bother with vegan cake when you have dairy ice cream? Ugh. Talked to the bartender about this and while she was sorry, she still charged me for the sundae that isn't advertised correctly. My omni friend tried it at least, but the whole thing went to waste. The bartender did give me the other half of the small piece of pumpkin cake. Spacecat across the street is a delicious vegan restaurant. Guess I'll stick with fully plant based spots for food since this was a waste of money and food. The only truly vegan ice cream was watermelon and that is so summery (no cake either). Since we couldn't eat the sundaes, we ordered small beers and took some cans to go. The IPAs are great and well rated on untapped. read more

Meh! Lots of funky beers, I only drink craft beer, no Bud or Labatt's, but while their beer is decent their prices and pours are not. Had a DIPA, their Collect double IPA 7.5%, It was good but not $8/16oz good when they only pour to the 12oz line and tell you the foam is part of the beer. So it's not even a real pint (16,9oz) and they short you. I mentioned this to the bar keeper and he said he only pours them and I could talk to the GM if I wanted to call when they were in and another bar keep told me the foam is part of the beer. They have 470ml water glasses which is 15.94oz and I measured it against their 16oz glass, it filled it, but over the pour line so when they tell you it's a 16oz pour, it's really 12oz. Why bitch? Because all other breweries give you a 16.9oz pour in a pint for $1-$2 or even $3 less. Yeah so it's a Double IPA, at 7.5% it's one of the weakest IPA around. I typically only drink IPA. The food service is by guest vendors, Sir Duck provided a very good menu, we had the lamb with a side of Mac N cheese, the Mac was smokey and very good I won't be going back read more

We came to Urbanrest to check out the food truck, but they had already gone by the time we got there. Regardless, this was my first time here so it was still a great experience. The atmosphere is a huge open space. It's actually a warehouse. There were some game tables. I was surprised at the number of children there. I'm sure that would be annoying for some patrons. They had some table seating, bar seating, chair rail sears and also some comfy chairs. You go up to the bar to order. The lines get long but they are quite quick. They have several food trucks there throughout the year so there's usually food. They have some cool merch too. The beers were spectacular and they had multiple choices. The service was quick and friendly. We need to come back and check out the food truck we missed! The day we visited, local renaissance Festival folk were taking over which made for some crazy mood, as horned costumes leader would occasionally jump on a chair for a loud toast. I would say that Urbanrest is easily one of my favorite Michigan breweries. They don't have a kitchen but they do have a steady rotation of food trucks. We've lived in Ferndale for a LONG time and just hadn't made our way to Urbanrest before this week. We went on a Sunday when the Arepa truck was out front so we could eat and drink. It's nice that they have food trucks lined up to serve food for people, but they do allow you to order in or bring your own food. We saw that they offer charcuterie boards in house that looked good as well. The bartenders were knowledgeable, and helpful. No one was waiting very long even with a line. The vibe of the place is also really fun. It's an old warehouse that they put some couches and tables in, but while it looks like a warehouse it does feel nicer. I think it's the plants and wood accents. Now...for the beer. I think it is an acquired taste. I know they do some open air fermentation which changes the taste of their beers. Maybe that's just not for me. I LOVE sour beers and gose styles and I ordered what they called a sour. It wasn't very sour, wasn't fizzy and just tasted funky. My husband's beer was a lager and it was better, just a run of the mill lager. Nothing phenomenal. I also had their sparkling rose which was better, but still nothing to write home about. I was intrigued that they do mimosas with it though and I might have to try it. Now, even though the beer was so-so, we would go back to try more, hang with friends, and hit up some more food trucks. Went last night because they were having Casa Amado taco truck there. My bf and I have both been vaccinated so it was our first outing to a restaurant or brewery and this was a fun place to try. They don't have food, but there was a taco truck there, so we ordered our food (which had a wait), then went inside to get seated. There weren't any tables so they took our name and asked us to wait outside. We bought 2 beers after some guidance from the bartender, the Abbey Ale, and headed outside to wait. The beer flavor was really good, and we both enjoyed it. The inside of the brewery was well done, and the many windows are nice with the view and the light coming in. Back to having to go outside - normally that wouldn't be a problem except it was about 35 degrees out, so it was CHILLY. They indicated they had fire tables and to hang out there, but both tables were taken and we tried to fire up the 3rd one and couldn't get it to work. Unfortunately our food came out before a table was ready, so we went back to our truck to snack on our chips and wait to get called. About 10 minutes later a table opened up and we got to go inside with our food & beer. Once inside we enjoyed the space and just being out again! We ordered a 2nd beer each and just hung out for a bit. Looking forward to going back when it's warmer outside and sitting at the picnic tables. They are adhering very strictly to state guidelines of 50% capacity, masks, social distancing and sanitizing. They even set your beers and credit cards on a separate table that you then retrieve yourself. If you are out of your seat you need to wear a mask. We really appreciated how seriously they were taking the pandemic and what a good job they are doing to try not to get anyone sick. read more

Urbanrest is an amazing brewery with an expansive selection of their own great brews, kombucha, and even wine. This open space is perfect for gathering friends with even a play area for kids, foosball, and billiards (so activities for the whole family). There is even a private room that you can reserve in advance for a party. I had the Apple Lemon Ginger Kombucha and it was super refreshing and didn't have that intense vinegary taste that many commercial flavors do. My friends did very much enjoy their beers and there are different brews for every taste. The food offered are essentially a variety of food trucks and stands that set up inside so you get a new restaurant every so often. This is the perfect brewery for so many reasons, great beer, an interesting and tasty mix of food trucks, tons of space, and the best place to be outdoors when it's nice out. The beer is always changing so there is always a new thing to try with a few staples you can count on. They also make homemade kombucha which I learned from a bartender they can add as a floater on any of their beers to make them taste a bit fruitier like an Oberon. I drove by one night and when I finished my errands, went back to check it out. The reuse of an old building caught my attention, because I'm a historic preservation nerd and I liked the vibe. My buddy and I went in for a drink and they had kombucha on tap, which I was excited about. I hadn't had homemade kombucha on tap since Townshend's still had tea houses in Oregon! I was pumped! I asked the friendly counter server which he preferred and I ordered that one. It was amazing. The ambiance is great! The lighting is warm and cozy. There's board games to play, foozball, and a variety of seating. Central Perk vibes but with beer. You should go. I'll be going back. Maybe we'll run into each other and share a beer or a kombucha. Went here for the first time yesterday with my wife and infant son. We sat outside and enjoyed a few beers. The beers were very good. We enjoyed their session ale and DDH IPA. The outdoor area was very kid friendly as well as pet friendly. While we were there, we witnessed a dog that was on the patio attack a dog that was walking on the sidewalk. This is one of our favorite places to hang out, drink some amazing beer, and have a good time. The atmosphere and staff are so incredible.

We came in for a beer after dinner. They were having issues with their taps. We were able to get a couple of beers before they stopped working altogether. The bartender was doing a great job of keeping everyone entertained while the taps were being worked on. After about twenty minutes, everything was back to normal. I had an IPA that I really enjoyed. My friends and I wanted to check out this new brewery as it just opened on June 30. They opened yesterday at 4:00 and we lined up at 3:30 expecting a large crowd. Good turnout but not overwhelmingly busy and we easily found a table. It's located in a large industrial building, similar to that of B. Nektar, on the outskirts of downtown Ferndale. Nice laid back atmosphere, a large open space with long picnic tables, perfect for chatting with friends or playing board games which were made available, as well as a foosball and pool table. They only had four beers on tap so far, a golden ale, IPA, pale ale and porter. They let you try samples if you ask. I tried the porter which had roasted chocolate flavors but was a little bit heavy. I ordered the golden ale, which was light and refreshing. My friend ordered all four. He thought the golden ale had a slight after taste and his favorite was the IPA. A couple of my other friends said that the IPA was their favorite as well. They also offer flights and growlers. No food offered except charcuterie boards and they said they will have food trucks available. Overall, a fun place to hang out but not particularly impressed by their beer selection. Still looking forward to coming back as they said they were adding Saizons and Kombucha next week. read more

I went here today with a friend for the first time to try it out. It's in Ferndale but more in the neighborhood area vs. like the 9 Mile/Woodward area. I ended up trying their pear kombucha, which was very tasty but sadly only .5% ABV, ha. They have a pretty limited beer menu but there's about 6-10 choices I believe. The whole building has a very urban loft vibe to it, and there are tons of little corners to sit in, as well as tables. You can order your drinks either at the bar or wait until a server comes over to you. Overall a fun spot, and I'll come back at some point. I don't think they have food, besides a charcuterie board option, but I saw a hot dog cart outside when we left, so perhaps they have some of those regularly. read more
