It's everything you hope it's going to be and more. Wonderful people and a great experience, amazing food and drink.

Mmmm I don't think you can go wrong with anything in this display case.

After all these years, Anthony Bourdain is still sending me to good spots. This tiny charcuterie shop, at the Naschmarket, has all kinds of goodies in their display case. Honestly I felt a little out of place, as it feels like locals know what to order here by name. It all looked so good, and I know I wanted their local ham that they are known for, so while they were slightly amused by this American who walked in wanting something, but didn't know exactly what, they hooked me up with a sampler to put an end of my deer in the headlights stage fright. The local ham with a lightly shaved Parmesan was excellent, as was their rare homemade roast beef. Prosciutto Di Parma was spot on and one Brie and a Parmesan cheese. They handed me a glass of wine, and showed me outside, while I waited. I had no idea what it cost and after they brought it to me, told me to come in and pay after. Very trusting are these Viennese people. I decided to come back the next day to get some goodies to put in my refrigerator. It seemed that my quick return had earned their respect...and I asked if they had some truffled mortadella, which they found. Outstanding! A truffled cheese as well was quite tasty. I also asked for a couple of other recommendations, which he was happy to oblige, taking his time digging around to find some of the more exotic hard cured meats, and thinking about it. I will say this...taking to go and paying by weight is way cheaper than eating there. But there is something to be said for having a nice glass of wine while standing at an outside table eating charcuterie.

One of the highlights during our latest trip to Vienna. We came to Naschmarkt on a Saturday morning and decided to stop here for a break after wandering through the stalls. It's a tiny storefront with tables outside, and upon walking in, it can be overwhelming. You're greeted by friendly faces and an assortment of goodies behind the counter and on the walls. We asked for a chef's choice platter that came with an assortment of Austrian meats and cheeses. You can also customize by letting them know your preferences. Served with bread and don't forget to pair with a glass of Austrian red or white. The roast beef seemed like a popular item we missed out on. I wish we had tried ordering more but guess we'll just need to come back!

The chocolate is still made by the same family that has owned the shop for generations. This chocolate shop has drawers of chocolates to sift through. This used to be a button shop for the royalty. The drawers were full of buttons that the royalty could pick from to be on their clothes. Now the drawers are filled with buttons of delicious chocolates. The staff was extremely helpful and very pleasant. Besides, who could be sour in a chocolate shop. It was some of the best chocolate we have ever had. We are keeping the hot chocolate mix for our trip to Tahoe later this year. It will be a way we can relive our amazing trip. I wanted to say thank you to the staff for being so friendly and helpful in selecting our chocolate. I gave it one Euro sign, but you could easily get carried away in here. We spent over $40 of chocolate because we knew we weren't going to be back anytime soon.

Even if you think you don't know the brand, you might recognize Manner wafers when you see them. Their classic Neapolitan wafers were introduced in 1898 and are hazelnut-cream filled wafers. Josef Manner opened his first stop next to St. Stephen's Cathedral. I'm not sure if the current shop is located in the same place as the original shop, but it's certainly close by (just across from the cathedral). The shop is tiny, but it's well stocked - full of the classic Manner wafers but also additional flavors and a million other items related to Manner. Given the company's history, Manner wafers make a perfect souvenir from a trip to Vienna. Stop by and take some home - whether you love them already or not.

Yelp Review 2023 #268:…read more Every time I or anybody in the family go to a Duty Free shop in Europe, a big box of Manner has to be brought home. Crunchy wafers with chocolate and hazelnut cream in between. Located across from St. Stephen's Cathedral, I had to come visit this shop. You can get Manner in different flavors and shapes, and packaging: giant box, small bag. They have chocolate-covered Manner. So many options I didn't know exist. My mind was definitely blown. Keep in mind, these wafers have a rather short shelf life. Be sure to eat them within 6 months after purchasing them or they'll be expired. I've actually eaten expired Manner before and it was rancid! They also have Mozartkugeln (chocolate ball with marzipan and pistachio in the middle), individually wrapped chocolates and pralines. For serious Manner lovers, you can get liqueur, a t-shirt, a bag, and a hoodie, teddy bear, flash drive, snow globe, and all kinds of little accessories.
