dropped in to check out this highly rated bakery specializing in coffee and cakes. we really wanted to try different items, so we got 3 different slices and shared them. also get coffee. the joe was decent. not bad but not the best I've had in Vienna. in general, it was def respectable. i got a double chocolate cake , one friend got raspberry, and another got the traditional cake that vienna is known for.... they were all good but the traditional was def my fav. when we got there there was no seating available and reservations were fully booked so we decided to sit at the bar. to the servers credit he was able to get us a spot that temporarily opened up.

In search of authentic Sachertorte we ventured into this restaurant upon the recommendation of our concierge. Decor was great, but keep looking up because the carpets are in desperate need of a good shampoo. We all had the melange coffee and Sachertorte, honestly I don't know what all the fuss is about. So maybe in its day the fact it was preserved beyond normal shelf life is the feature but nothing special. There were other cakes and strudel options we would have tried had the coffee been warmer. Server was great and overall an enjoyable experience but it does feel like a tourist trap.

What a great little find while strolling thru Vienna. Yes, I would come from the US just for this!

I was recommended this place for a nice old fashioned atmosphere and excellent cakes. The place is very nice. Downstairs there's a sweet and cake shop and upstairs a small café with bar. All offered cakes are on display so you can see what you'll get. We ordered café melange and some cakes. The cakes were excellent. Not overly sweet or fatty and all the flavors well combined. The coffee came luke warm though instead of hot. And the waiter brought a different cake than we ordered. He was very nice and chatty but maybe he should have paid more attention to our choice. The prices are similar as in other places like this in Vienna city center. Not cheap but not extremely expensive either. I really liked the place and the cakes, I just think they might want to improve the service.

Bad service very snobish and rude. Cake was missing a chunk of the cake. Beautiful ambience, cake was good.

The chocolate is still made by the same family that has owned the shop for generations. This chocolate shop has drawers of chocolates to sift through. This used to be a button shop for the royalty. The drawers were full of buttons that the royalty could pick from to be on their clothes. Now the drawers are filled with buttons of delicious chocolates. The staff was extremely helpful and very pleasant. Besides, who could be sour in a chocolate shop. It was some of the best chocolate we have ever had. We are keeping the hot chocolate mix for our trip to Tahoe later this year. It will be a way we can relive our amazing trip. I wanted to say thank you to the staff for being so friendly and helpful in selecting our chocolate. I gave it one Euro sign, but you could easily get carried away in here. We spent over $40 of chocolate because we knew we weren't going to be back anytime soon.
