Turns out, there's not much "social distancing" being practiced with the taco truck. No one was hanging out right there, but it was basically the same as any other taco transaction - you roll up, place an order, hand over the cash (cash only business), keep it moving. I ordered a steak burrito with salsa verde and extra beans instead of rice. He chucked all the toppings on the flat top for a few minutes, rolled it up in a monster, and dropped it under the press to get a nice sear on the shell. That, to me, is an essential next step. I don't want a soggy, fall to pieces, burrito. El Taco Bus delivered a perfect burrito. Brought it home and threw it on a bed of spinach and lettuce, topped it with the salsa, and sliced it open. There's a layer of delicious melty cheese, thick pieces of juicy steak, and plenty of cilantro and onions for flavor. Frantically I pulled out my phone and found El Gordis right down the road in the parking lot of a BP gas station at the intersection of Tennessee and Reading. I pulled up way too damn hungry, distraught, trying to figure out if I wanted a torta or a burrito or just like 16 different things. I ordered in a panic, and ended up with a steak torta. Payment via cash or cash app, no cards accepted. It was a delicious decision. What I got from the owner was probably one of the best Mexican meals I've had in this city, and that torta was a solid meal in and of itself. Piled HIGH with meat, two different types of cheeses, damn near a whole avocado, fresh jalapenos, home made salsa, lettuce, pico, and a grilled jalapeno and onion on the side for good measure. It was probably one of the most ridiculously large things I've eaten, and at $12 it was worth every single penny. While he was cooking I chatted with the owner, they're open until 9pm every night except Sunday but he's talking about opening until late on the weekends (like 1 am), because he apparently does good business in the evening. He marinates and makes all of his meat (including chorizo), bakes his own bread, dices his own tomatoes, it's all his handy work making this little truck work. And the results are well worth it.

If a truck can't do tacos right, they likely can't do much else right. This truck, like many, is cash only, so no cards here. I ordered one steak taco, one chicken taco, and one al pastor taco. My boss ordered a red tamale, two chicken tacos, and one steak taco. We hardly waited at all before our order was up and the price was nice.
