We were originally hoping for a brunch reservation but could only snag a 3 PM slot -- a testament to how incredibly popular they are -- although we ended up being ready at 2 PM and called ahead to ask if they could seat us earlier. They, very graciously, were able to make space for us to come a tad earlier. The food was absolutely incredible -- it was some combination of American comfort and Mexican / Latin American, with classic Mexican items like huevos ranchos, fish tacos, and enchiladas right next to traditional American brunch selections like chicken and waffles, hot cakes, and so forth. Their menu is also remarkably vegetarian / vegan-friendly, and it features their own house-made vegan chicken! We decided to split a few items, including the zucchini brie hot cakes, fish tacos, and vegan hot honey chicken and waffles. All three were outstanding, but my favorite had to be the zucchini brie hot cakes. The cakes were remarkably soft and fluffy, and I loved the bit of sweetness from the zucchini (and maple syrup, of course), and the extra hit of rich creaminess and savoriness from the brie. It was the perfect sweet and savory combo, and it was easily one of the biggest surprises of the meal. The rest of the items were also delicious, although not quite as wowing.The fish tacos were well-fried and flavorful, and I was quite impressed by how crispy and thin their accompanying fries were. I really enjoyed the flavor of the hot honey vegan chicken and waffles, but I was, admittedly, a little bit thrown off by the texture of both. It's very possible that the waffle had just gotten a bit soggy because I ate this dish last and it wasn't quite at its peak freshness. Drinks: Baltimore Vice -- strawberry-forward with a Don Q rum float, coconut foam, and freeze-dried strawberries. Light, refreshing, and very easy to drink. Piñata Riot -- a tequila twist on a jungle bird. Slightly bitter, tropical, and well-balanced. Both cocktails were solid and worth ordering again. Food: Green Chili Burger -- while it didn't quite hit true Albuquerque green chile standards, it was still flavorful and satisfying. A strong menu option. Zucchini Brie Pancake -- the standout dish. Unexpectedly balanced between sweet and savory, rich without being too heavy, and something I'd absolutely reorder. Overall: Great first impression. While I did not try libations, I find it hard to mess that up, especially in a drink district like Canton. Just look at the check before you check out to make sure it is what you think it is. This is a lively place to have adult drinks and burgers. The Long Story: My friend and I each ordered the "Foursome" which is a menu item of each of their burgers atop of a bed of fries. This is where the shadiness begins - but more on that later. What I like about this place is the simplicity of their menu. Conceptually, a simple menu should ensure that the product is done right and consistent. There are four main "entrees" - each a double patty cheeseburger with some sort of variation or twist. The delicious burgers come out on a potato bun. The burgers are oversauced which takes away from taste of the patty. At $13+ each, I expect the meat of the patty to do a lot of talking -- and while I could tell they use quality meat, the flavor was drowned out by the accoutrements. With that said, the most distinct menu items to me were the "Cowgirl" and "Hot and Heavy". The spicy burger wasn't crazy spicy but biting into the jalapenos was most of its heat. The shoestring fries, I suspect, are not made in-house but probably come from a bag -- and a frozen one at that. Provided the fries come out fresh, hot, and well-fried, they are tasty -- I especially enjoyed the light seasoning. The server was deliberately bubbly and friendly. The speed, frequency, and order fulfillment was on point. While I generally had a good experience, here are the things that really REALLY irked me. Lack of disclosure: On the menu, the "Foursome" says you get "all four...special burgers". What the menu does NOT tell you, is, these are single patty burgers not double patty burgers -- no big deal, I don't want that much meat anyhow. The most egregious offense was non-disclosure of 18% SERVICE CHARGE pre-added to the check. The server made no mention of it, and, as a result, I inadvertently double-tipped. I suppose the proprietors or business concept assumes everyone ONLY wants cheeseburgers-- since there is no non-cheeseburger on the menu. While certainly I expect them to remove the cheese if I request it -- but seeing how deliberate the skimming is for this business, I'm sure I won't get a refund of the typical $1-2 every other place charges for cheese. While, I want every worker to earn decent compensation for the effort they put in -- more so I want to know what I'm paying for. I don't want to visit any place in the US with the feeling of "Buyer Beware" and have to make sure my math is sharp and inspect the check. Would I come here again if I wanted a burger? Probably not -- while I think the value is fair, I think there are other nearby burger places where the value is higher. Would I come here for drinks?
