Immediately upon walking in there was a weird smell that neither my husband or myself really cared for. I don't know if it's normal or not, but it was def a deterrent. We stopped in about 3pm on a Saturday while passing through the area, it was not busy- but either they had sold out of the pops earlier in the day or they only had about 6 flavor options to choose from normally. The woman working there was very nice when I asked her opinion- I chose cookies and cream because she said it was more popular than the banana pudding and I was afraid of picking a flavor that just plain sucked- haha. Everyone raves about Steel City Pops which by all means is great but for those of us who live in Hoover, Urban Pops has won our hearts over. It is similar but Urban Pops has more exotic flavors. This place is located on 150 in the Walmart shopping center. Parking is plentiful, they have adequate seating, service is amazing. Owners are super friendly and can answer any question about their items. If you come from eastern cultures you'll love kulfi, malai and pistachio flavors. I think they have a mango one too. The kulfi pop is a must try. Kulfi is Indian ice cream. It has sweet cream, a bit of cardamom and some rose essence usually. But the taste is not overpowering. You mostly taste the sweet cream flavor with just a hint of cardamom. You can get it in the pistachio or plain flavors. The owners are Persian but they have mastered this South Asian classic. I think Iranian desserts are similar to Indian. As a south Asian I can tell you they do this better than the Indian places in town! They use real ingredients, flavors and nuts. I got mango kulfi from Indian buffet and it was just artificial orange crap. Not here! They sell the real deal! They stay open past dinner time so it's nice to come here for dessert. They have coffee and other desserts on their menu as well but people come in for the pops. However, if you go with a person who doesn't like pops, there are options for them! I am in love with Urban Pops! Homemade popsicles are of course their feature, but they also have delicious coffee, tea, and cakes. Each time I visit, the service is fantastic- extremely friendly and helpful. They have a list of their fruity flavors, creamy flavors, and specials for the day. I decided on a Kulfi pop this time and now I am addicted! Creamy, cardamon and pistachios- may not be for everyone but I had to order an extra to take home with me! One niece ordered strawberry and the other Oreo and both very happy with the taste. So plenty of choices for those who like more traditional flavors or some like me who like to be a little adventurous. The store is quite cozy and nicely decorated with several seating areas. Pricing is great and you get an even better discount if you order four or more. read more

I can't believe it took this long for me to come here. What a cool space. Located in the Walmart shopping center in Hoover, this gem hits the spot if you want a treat. The employees/owners are amazing and so helpful. Store is clean and there is plenty of seating indoors. Flavors galore! If you want chocolate flavored...you're covered! Craving something fruity....you're covered (I went with the Raspberry Lemonade....simply awesome!!). Want something with candy in it....you guessed it...they have that as well! Reasonable prices and perfect size to quench that sweet tooth. Glad I finally made it in here and look forward to many, many return visits. read more

This is my new favorite dessert place. I love Steel City Pops but this place is soooo much better! The owner is incredibly sweet and so are the flavors! I heard about this place from my friends who are locals and go to Urban Pops on a regular basis. Several times in our conversations they have mentioned that I really needed to come with them the next time they went. Well I wasn't able to go with them the last time they went (this last week), so I decided to go solo to try this place out. I ordered the caramel apple pop and it was pretty amazing. Almost so amazing that I feel my words simply can't do it justice! Please, whatever you do, try the caramel apple pop next time you are over in this area and you will not regret it! They even have a drive through if you are in a rush, so you can get a pop on the run. read more

Urban pops has the best homemade popsicle around. My favorite is the coffee and cookies and cream. They truly put a whole Oreo in the popsicle and use real cream. The best. The owners are so friendly and helpful when trying to choose a flavor your wanting. They take such pride in their business. The inside is very warm and cozy and great place to have a cup of coffee or enjoy a popsicle depending on what your wanting on your visit. A couple tables on the outside if weather isn't to hot to sit. They offer a punch card where you can earn a free popsicle after purchasing so many. One of my favorite little finds. read more

Not only were the popsicles excellent, but the service was outstanding. We went there during a football game and she was nice enough to put the game on their one TV. We were able to sit in comfy chairs, enjoy our dessert and watch the game. read more

Great place! Birmingham has some kind of fascination with Popsicles. Every time you turn around they have a pop stand. This place is different. Food- Pops are great. I am a plain Jane and get simple things like vanilla. It's so good but cheesecake is my winner. Staff- So friendly. Atmosphere- This is where Urban Pops separates themselves. It is a laid back lounge with couches. They also have tables and outdoor seating. Unlike the other pop places in town here you can relax and enjoy your pop. Not only are the popsicles amazing, but the owners are an absolute delight to be around. The atmosphere of the space is very comforting-- with dark woods and comfortable seating. They have daily specials as well as regularly made pops. I have eaten 7 different flavors and I can't even begin to tell you how awesome they are. Our college age daughters took us here to try some delicious pops. They had a wide variety to chose from. It was so delicious! I would highly recommend you visit and try. I was pleasantly surprised to discover all the variety and options they offered. It seemed to be a hip place to be. We will definitely be back because I want to try more varieties. Yum!! read more

I absolutely adore this place and the sweet owner! The kulfi pop is probably one of the best desserts in all of Birmingham - the flavor is just perfect. I have gone in a couple of times and gone through the drive thru and have always had a wonderful experience. I love the quaint and peaceful feel inside. Hands down the best popsicle I have ever had! Steel City Pops who?!? I got the strawberry cheesecake and it honestly taste like a really good strawberry cheesecake! My husband got the cookies & cream and it was also really tasty. The sitting area was so cozy with low lighting. Almost all the tables and a lot of the decor were handmade by one of the owners. They have plenty of seats and even a few games to play, some magazines too. You can tell they put a lot of love into their business! The owner that was working that night was so lovely and just so appreciative. She told us about some of the other flavors they have and I can't wait to try them! I'm a sucker for Mom and Pop (no pun intended) shops and this place nails it. Wonderfully friendly people and atmosphere and delicious homemade ice cream on a stick! My favorites are the Kulfi (has pistachios) and Buttermilk pops. My five year-old and wife love the Mango and Watermelon pops. Also, they potato soup is very good! If I have a choice, I always support local business and this is a gem in Hoover. read more

If I could give a negative star rating, then I would. We, there were eight if us, that walked in. A terrible smell, almost like a restroom smell, assaults our noses when we walk in. We ordered creamy orange, not flavorful enough. Ended up throwing it away. Also ordered strawberry cheesecakes, strawberry, and mango. Okay, not special. We will be spending money at Steel City Pops, instead of wasting $16 on Urban. read more

What a great local Hoover business! The people that own the shop are so nice. I would go back just for that. My wife had a pink lemonade pop and I had a Cafe Americano from the coffee bar. They have a really nice coffee machine in there. The coffee was great and the little bit of the Popsicle I had was great too. As others have said, the atmosphere here is great versus other places like it around town because you can sit inside or outside and enjoy what you got. I'm not a huge Popsicle guy even though I like them occasionally, but am going to try to regularly stop in for a cup of coffee. read more

There's very limited seating inside but you could maybe grab a spot if you wanted to. I ordered a scoop of hazelnut gelato and husband got chocolate. The flavor selection is somewhat simple and limited but that's not necessarily a bad thing - product seems very high quality. Service was acceptable, quiet and matter of fact. The serving size was generous. Both gelatos were good, but my hazelnut was great! It was so pleasantly nutty and sweet, and the texture was amazing. I'd definitely order this treat again! Give them a try if you're a gelato fan. Yum!
