I wanted to take my kids on a little summer adventure and came across Urban Pirates, a pirate themed boat adventure, that takes place in the Inner Harbor/Downtown area of Baltimore. To start, we booked tickets online. Our adventure did not sell out so they called us and rescheduled for later the same day. When we arrived, we checked in under a tent that was set up at the end of small street along the water. The tent had some pirate themed items for sale. We waited there, on some benches, until our cruise was ready. Once on the ship tattoos and nicknames were given, stories were told, songs were sung and dances danced. There were battles with pirates, water cannons, treasure to be had all will cruising the waters of downtown Baltimore. Overall, a pretty cool adventure. Urban Pirates is definitely not cheap. My son, who is 8, really enjoyed the experience. My daughter, a middle schooler, had a little less fun. But there were kids older than her on our boat that were really into it. So, like a lot of things, you'll mostly get out of Urban Pirates what you are willing to put into it. Yaaaaar! read more

We did the 8:30 p.m. adult tour, which is about an hour. It sails very slowly around the harbor, staying close to shore, so there is no need to worry about sea sickness. My understanding is that this business mostly does cruises for children, and that is reflected in the way the boat is decorated and how the crew dress and speak (so many "aarhgs). However, for the adult cruise, they are very aware that their main audience is drunk people who are bar hopping around Fells, and they lean into that. They play dance music and give out free shots of Captain Morgan. It is BYOB and it seems they will allow anything, including glass. Most people had beer or white claws, but at least one dude was drinking out of his own personal tequila bottle. Also, there is a bathroom on board. All in all, this is a nice way to spend an hour people watching and enjoying the water. read more

We did the 8:30 tour with a big group of friends and it was so fun! The staff were so funny and friendly, and they handled a bunch of drunk adults so well. The website says cash tip, but they have Venmo and Cashapp options! The tour is about an hour and it sails around the Inner Harbor. There is loud music, lots of dancing and shouting, and plenty of pirate talk and booze. This was such a fun, unique way to explore Baltimore in a new way. read more

If you want to have "big kid fun" on a fireworks cruise, this is your destination, especially if you do it with/as a group. It gets really heavy on the pirate schtick as you float around the harbor waiting for darkness, but it's a fun time, and the music is great. For 4th of July fireworks, they secure an excellent vantage point where you can see the fireworks easily in all directions. You might be able to get on fancier fireworks cruises, but you won't find a more fun one. read more

This was so much fun! The crew teaches the kids pirate talk, pirate dances, and helps them fend off an "evil" pirate in the harbor with water cannons. The wee pirates of course earn loot, and get pirate names as well as tattoos. The cruise itself is about an hour. My kid loved it! read more

I bought a ticket for a Saturday and hours later I tested positive for COVID. I asked for a refund because I was going for a birthday party, instead of a refund they are giving a "rain check." Who wants a rain check? No one! It's more than 72 hours in advance of our time to go on the boat and a refund should be given. Poor management. Long lines, good service, boats work great and nice experience to have. My review is for the smaller motor boat you can ride yourself but not the big boat which most of the pictures here are showing with shows etc. Still run by the same business. 1. Long lines We came here on a rather quiet day. We saw at most 16 people ahead of us and they had many boats, so we got in line since people ahead of us were in groups and would sit in a same boat the seats 4-6. Even then it took us over 1 hour in line. Can't imagine the wait time during holidays and long weekends. No shade so sun will be right at ya while waiting. That part is rather painful. It's $25 per boat regardless of how many people. 2. Boating It's a motor boat so you can enjoy it with kids and unlike the neighboring dragon boats, you don't need to paddle, so very chilling experience. Radius you can enjoy is rather small and you do bump into other boats, which I actually found fun! 3. Life jackets Are necessary and they want you to wear one. However, they're so dirty! I wish they clean it. It just grossed me out so much when I saw the grease on the neck area which will actually directly touch your skin. Maybe bring a scarf or two! Or just learn to suck up, which is what I did. I would sill highly recommend this experience if you're in Baltimore! read more

COVID: Its an out door pirate boat, there was no social distancing or masks required. We went to the "Bring Your Own Grog" cruise. Overall it lasts about an hour and a half including boarding time, so about an hour off the docks. The crew is friendly and has a lot of fun with the customers, joking around, playing drinking games like pass the coconuts and the limbo. Be ready for what it is, a drinking pirate cruise, no point in going if you're not ready to deal with loud foul mouthed pirates and wenches! This was such a chaotic, dumb, and most importantly FUN time! I came here for the BYOG 10pm cruise, and it was so SO fun! The premise is that you can bring all of your own drinks on board and have fun with your friends while the pirate ship just circles around inside of the harbor. You need tickets for this, and they sell out quite a few days in advance, so plan ahead! This was a really nice change up from the typical bar-outing, and it is right at Fells in an easy-to-find spot (you can't miss the huge pirate ship in the harbor). Check-in is quite easy, and they give you a wrist band to verify check-in. I believe that you are not allowed to bring any open drink bottles on board, so just wait until you're on the boat to open anything that you might be worried about having to dump out! There was a chance of rain when I went, but it mainly held off and only drizzled a bit while we were on board, so be attentive of the weather! One of the staff (Snot Rocket) was giving people name tags with super funny nicknames, and she even takes nickname requests! We played a few games on board, but they weren't that involved or lengthy, so if you're not feeling like playing games with the other people on the boat, don't worry. Birthday folks got a free shot (of rum, I believe). They have a bathroom on the ship in case you need to use it. read more

I booked the 11:00 AM Family Adventure cruise with the Groupon deal ($61.50 for 4 people). There's not much to do in Baltimore so it seemed like it would be fun. We went there early to find parking since it's a bit difficult in the waterfront area. We parked in the residential area so it was free. The weather was great which I was worried about since they said rain or shine. The pirate guides were very nice and played a lot of games with the kids (and adults too). They give you name tags and temporary tattoos before you set sail. The water cannons and the pirate sailing by were a lot of fun. Overall, the whole cruise was entertaining and it was nice to sail around Inner Harbor on a sunny day. So this place should be on everybody's bucket list! It was awesome. A pirate cruise around the harbor... To see the beautiful lights and downtown is all a city girl could ask for. Shots of captain Morgan all night. Oh and the games we play.... The two hosts were amazing. You start off with getting a cool pirate name and a tattoo. By the way two weeks later my tattoo is still there. There are a few challenges... If you want to go with a group of people EVERYBODY has to get their ticket early. They fill up fast! It's so hard to coordinate with everyone. I had a credit from last year because my cruise was cancelled because if inclement weather and I had the HARDEST time re-scheduling because they give you a voucher that you can not Redeem online. Really fun for kids. We did an 11:30-12:30 Saturday cruise. The souvenirs aren't terribly overpriced. Sword was $5, can't remember how much the hats cost but they weren't bad either. The cruise itself isn't so terribly overpriced that you feel bad for doing it (LOL), but it's not cheap either. About $25 a person after taxes and fees. Definitely book online. The employees aboard the ship are awesome. Really great with kids and they made it entertaining and fun for the adults too. Lots of fun music, the water cannons are fun, the people in the inner harbor area watch and interact with you when the boat goes that way. Overall it was very fun and I'd definitely do it again. Absolutely fantastic. Obviously it is as campy and cheesy as you might imagine but the staff presents it so well that you cannot help yourself from getting in on the fun, even if you are a curmudgeon like myself. Honestly, the production value of the experience is nothing short of top notch. The whole experience ran like a well oiled machine, and it is extremely rare to find an experience that captures the kids imagination then continues to entertain them anywhere near as fluently as Urban Pirates. Additionally we were on the last cruise on a Sunday evening of a busy weekend. We fully expected the staff to be tired and just going through the motions but that was definitely not the case! We had a personal (nothing to do with the company) occasion that forced us to deal with their customer service as well, and they handled completely exceeded expectations and went above and beyond to help us out. We will definitely be going back ourselves another time for the booze cruise, never thought I'd be saying that! Had my sons 5th Birthday Party on the ship this past weekend. It was so much fun, nothing like I expected but in a good way. The cast entertained the entire hour and were hilarious. There was dancing, limbo, conga line and even water cannons aimed at a motor boat with the "mad dog" on it. There was zero chance the children could ever get bored, so high energy the full hour. On the other side, even though I booked ahead 21 tickets (at $20/piece) and said it was a birthday party. All they did at the end of the ship (as your docking) they generically ask if there's any celebrations on the ship and they sing a birthday song. And if you want to have food/cake/open presents it's an additional $175 to rent out the room inside. However, the staff was very accommodating letting me store presents and good bags inside while we were sailing even though I didn't pay the extra for the party room. read more

We had a blast the first time I went on the cruise a few years ago with a large group of friends. Charismatic staff, a bottle of rum, bring your own grog (pirate for beer!), a fun pirate boat, a night on the water. You can't beat this for a cool evening out. I definitely recommend going with a group though. The second time I went (more recently) I only went with one other person and the remaining crowd wasn't as interesting, the script from the staff was the same (no fault there, it's fantastic and most people only go on this once), and I was a little nostalgic about the first time I went. In summary, the more the merrier, and I highly recommend doing this once regardless of group size! read more

My team scheduled to charter the pirate ship tomorrow a month or so ago. The policy is that the boat goes out in rain but not thunderatorms, which is fine, but thunderatorms are in the forecast 9am-9pm. The boat is supposed to leave at 5:30, and they're telling me that if there's thunder 5 minutes before departure they will still set sail, because storms come and go quickly, and that they can only let me know at departure time if they will cancel or not. So, I have to rally my team together and get them to the venue to possibly go out in thunderstorm possibly not, which seems like a desperate not to loose money policy, at the expense of saftey. I would not recommend booking in advance for this. read more

But since it was the family cruise there was a lot of children and a lot of noise. Next time when I'm of age will probably take the adult cruise. I had the best time with my kids. I went once before for byog the Adult cruise which was so much fun I booked a week later to bring my boys back! The got a tattoo, a unique pirate name, costume, and interactive play! I'm sure they will not forget this. The crew was amazing. My only turn off was that they asked for tips. All I could think is that the cruise to me is already over priced and they are pretty booked each time I've inquired, I can't see why the kid crew members would ask for a tip at the end and not the adult crew members the week before. I mean they were awesome, I don't carry cash, but that was a little off putting. Their cancellation policy is a total scam. Their agreement states they sail rain or shine but will cancel cruise if their is lightning. They will not issue a refund, you can only reschedule. That's fine but what they don't tell you is if they cancel because their boat is having issues they still won't issue a refund. Then I called to reschedule. I wanted to use my adult cruise tickets towards a family cruise since I had no reason to use the adult ticket at that point. The person who I spoke to gave me an attitude and spoke to my like I was stupid for wanting to do this. He was so incredibly rude to me for no reason. I went on the "booze cruise" with some friends. Some of the people on the boat were being drunk and irresponsible, which is expected... it was fine, they weren't bothering me, it's not my problem. I was having a good time until a crew member came up to me and yelled because the people NEAR me were messing around. Not even my friends, just a group nearby. I told him that I didn't know why he was singling me out when I wasn't even involved and he got REAL snarky -- sneering with some passive aggressive "must have been the other girl in the striped top". This went on for a little while before I was able to shake him off but it definitely killed the vibe for the night. I decided to try out the adults only Urban Pirates adventure and it was lots of fun. We boarded the boat and received pirate vests, names and tattoos. The ride consisted of bring your own grog (alcohol), games, good music and rum. If you're looking for a different type of fun, I would highly suggest trying this out. I purchased 28 tickets in advance to go on the Pirate Ship. About a week before the event, I knew I was going to be unable to use all 28 tickets. Since the event was already sold out, I asked if they would try to sell six of my tickets that I was unable to use and if not then I would still eat the cost. The response I got was: "Unfortunately with a group of 15 or more we would need at least 2 weeks notification before cancelling your tickets for you to receive a refund. We look forward to sailing with you. Arrgghh" I understand they have policies but for somethat purchased 28 tickets for an event that was sold out, I thought they could have made an effort to help me out by trying to sell a few of the tickets that would go unused. I had a large group come in from out of town to go on the night cruise. Everyone was very excited. When we arrived we were told that the boat was not working and we would not be able to go out on the cruise. This was disappointing but understandable. The reason for the 1 star review was that instead of getting a full refund we were only given the option to get a raincheck. I am not going to get all of my out of town guests back to Baltimore on the same day to use the raincheck. Beware of cancellation policy--I booked late Friday pm for a cruise the next day. I had to cancel suddenly because of a family matter and Urban Pirates would not let me transfer my reservation to another day. Ninety dollars down the drain because of their inflexible "cancellation policy." Even though I was attempting a reschedule--not a cancellation. Bad business, Urban Pirates. Fun all around and excellent crew! This group of scallywags and wenches and God knows what else :-) made it a ton of fun to be on Urban Pirates. The games were fun and corny enough for you to call corny but play them all the same. You can bring your own grog and you get to be involved in all kinds of piratey goodness so if drinking and fun are your things, go check out this awesome bunch of scallywags and wrenches! What a great, great time! My college girlfriends and I do a girls weekend once a year at our friends house in Fells Point, in B-more. We have been talking about doing this adult "BYOG" (Bring your own grog) pirate ship for a while, so we decided that this was the weekend! Buying our tickets online was easy. I felt it was a bit pricey for a one hour trip ($25 plus $4.50 service fee). But I'll get into whether or not it was worth it later. Upon arriving, we were decked out in pirate gear- striped clothing, hoop earrings, and head scarfs. We were ready to pillage and plunder our way through the Baltimore Harbor! Check in was a breeze. Once on the boat, we cracked open our beers, got tattoos from a pirate on board and got our pirate nickname from another pirate onboard. Once we set sail, they played some dance music and we played some games (hot potato, limbo), for which the prize was a shot of Cap'n Morgan. There were also these water cannons that shot out water that you can play with. As well, as waving to all the "landlubbers" ashore. Overall, it was a fun trip but I definitely think you need to be with the right group of friends. If I had a kid, I'd definitely take them on the family friendly version during the day. Value wise, I thought the price was about right. Definitely not something I'd do every weekend, but it was a fun time. read more
