On Saturday we had a plan to box up a Crosley turntable that my son had got for Christmas. He hadn't used it in months because he thought it was wrecking his records. So we called the store to see what our options were and she said, "Bring it in". So we drove form out of Calgary to Chinook Mall hoping that things might work out. Well they did. Our son was able to get another name brand turntable instead of returning the Crosely to the factory by mail. Thank you, thank you Laura. You rock! If not for their low prices, then at least for the abundance of quirky items, does this place deserve four stars. Aside from a standard greeter and the fleeting cashiers, there is little in the way of customer service at this store, which is likely a company standard (because there is no way you are getting service in their Granville Street location in Vancouver either). However, Hipster-Spotting is a bottomless treat and the funnest way to kill some time before work. Granola clothes, a respectable vinyl collection, offbeat humor books, laughable trinkets - all is fair game and easily available. Low prices? It depends. Sometimes you can find something cute in UO for $5 (Especially if you shop online) and sometimes the next cute something is $150. Yesterday, the selection in here was pretty underwhelming, but that can be chalked up entirely to my personal preference. Summer Fashions for 2012, why all the drop-waisted tribal print dresses?! I don't want to look like I have a muffin-top, and I CERTAINLY don't want to look like a Nick Lachey tattoo. UO makes me sad, because they blatantly rip off the designs from indie designers on Etsy (and elsewhere) and sell it to you at a lower price. However, the staff here is friendly, and the store is generally pretty clean. They sell t-shirts that are cut snug, so they're ideal on someone with a larger chest and smaller waist. You can also get home decorations, vinyl, nostalgic toys and books. But yeah, if you find something "really unique" at UO, chances are you'll find the original handmade version on Etsy. read more

This place is unbelievably expensive and the products most likely are not worth what you're paying. I have NEVER been greeted in this store, never been asked "can I help you find something?" and I go in quite frequently. Really disappointing. read more

I guess Urban Planet is Urban Outfitters? Think twice before you shop online and try to return something. My daughter bought something in April and we returned it in July, along with the receipt, which said that after 30 days, a store credit will be issued. Yet when we returned it, we got informed (after the item got rung in and processed) that we'd get the refund on the card used. Unfortunately, my 13yo daughter had used a Mastercard gift card that she no longer had. The cashier was unsympathetic and unwavering, and told us to call UO to get it resolved. She said it was a result of Canada vs. US, different systems. Yet the receipt in my hand made no distinction between the two countries. The cashier, of course, didn't care though. So I called, and got told that they couldn't reverse the refund at that level, that is must -- AND CAN -- be done at the store, and the woman I was speaking to wasn't sure why that wasn't offered to me. (Especially when I was clearly pissed at the store that we didn't get the credit.) So I phoned the store manager who confirmed that yes they could issue me a credit, but I must return to the store. SO WHY WAS THIS NOT OFFERED TO ME AT THE TIME?? Yet now I get an email from UO confirming the return, and stating that the amount refunded is higher than what we actually got, apparently based on the full price of the item (my daughter must have purchased it on sale). And in that email, it says that items returned after 30 days, you'll get an e-credit. FFS. How hard is it?? If a company can't get its act together selling into Canada, it just shouldn't. Anyway, it's infuriating that the store didn't get its act together in the first place and I was met with an indifferent cashier ... and now I have to return because of their error. Never mind discouraging that Urban Outfitters can't get its act and messaging together for online sales into Canada. I would HIGHLY discourage buying online. read more

Getting really tired of this store. For a long time it was the only place I could shop in Calgary that even resembled the style I wanted, so I came here a lot. Recently I have tried to stop buying things from here because their clothes are just getting to be of worse and worse quality. I bought a really cute, delicate blouse here a few weeks ago for work. I wore it to work once, and by 10:30 am I visited the bathroom and upon looking in the mirror, saw that it had ripped in TWO places; the right sleeve was literally about to fall off.Thankfully I had a sweater with me so I could take it off, but I was so angry. It cost 75 bucks and it ripped within 3 hours of wear. And this is not the first time something like this has happened. Their jewelry is overpriced, their shirts and sweaters lacking in substance (which becomes obvious in the winter especially...), and their dresses stupidly expensive and poorly made. The quality of the service depends on the day; my worst experience being when I wanted to try on a bright pair of 80s-inspired sandals for fun (maybe that's a loser thing to do but whatever, I'm a paying customer and they had them available) and had to try on my clothing first before trying the shoes. Some employee I hadn't seen earlier came in and laughed to the girl that had helped me, asking who those sandals were for... she replied with my name (awkward since I could hear them) and they laughed. I was literally RIGHT there, in the changing room closest to where the employees stand. So rude- I walked out of the store immediately. Sometimes the service is good though, it really just depends since there are so many people that work there. All that being said, I have good luck with skirts here, as well as socks and cheap sunglasses. I was also grateful for the store credit I got when I returned the blouse without a receipt. The sale selection also has some well-priced shirts from time to time. But now that Calgary is getting more and more interesting clothing stores I don't think I will make any effort to come here again. read more

i rarely if ever walk into urban outfitters and leave with a shopping bag. when i do, it's boxing day. on the days where i do go in, it's to get my christmas shopping done for that one vegan-quirky friend who takes advice from crystals and can't stop raving about quinoa (Peru is suffering because of you Michelle). on the one day that i did go in to buy something, i stood in the horrendously tiny line made of fairy lights and various books on lumberjacking or something 'quirky'. upon coming to the register, i wanted to get my $20 off $100 deal. if any of you have ever bought something from urban outfitters, you know that these sales will get you, no matter how shitty they are. urban outfitters, i beg you to please hire competent cashiers instead of cashiers who look like they belong on a trendy "trying to reach 1000 followers" instagram. in particular, my logic reasons that when you try to return something and buy it again on the same transaction, it will cancel out. that is why i told this specific cashier to do two transactions. after not listening to me she proceeded to do the same thing. twice. after finally running my transaction through properly, she asked me if she could fit all of my stuff into a tiny red bag. i protested. she did not listen. after trying to cram everything in there, much like a viagra-enhanced pornstar trying to fuck a virgin, she relented and proceeded to look for a bigger bag. for five minutes. now this does not sound like a long time, but when there is a large counter of red bags directly behind you and you proceed to go directly left and find no bags, i start to get mad. not only was i in a rush because my father was picking me up, but it turns out my father was already at the shopping mall. please imagine, if you will, a very dark asian man angrily listening to amy winehouse and ABBA while yelling at his daughter to hurry the fuck up. that sort of shit will stress you out, and will make you even angrier when a ditzy canadian "amelie" is wandering around behind the counter trying to find a bag. about the low prices thing, it is indeed a very low price if you consider selling a young fetus to buy a jacket low price.
