My visit was a good experience. The place is spacious and very Indian (there was a distinct smell as soon as we stepped in), with high ceilings, thoughtful decor, and a mural showcasing Indian culture. The samosa was great, had plenty of filling and perfectly fried. The Butter Chicken was tasty, with tender chicken. The Goan Curry was a highlight too - the seabass was fresh and soft. Both curries were thick, rich and flavourful. The Chicken Biryani was also yum - both the rice and chicken were well seasoned. The Garlic Naan was well-cooked and went well with the curries. The staff was attentive. Overall, it was a nice dining experience. This was my second visit to this place. I was there after a long time and this time on boxing day. I understand it's a busy day with limited staff but that's the true test for consistency and planning. We ordered basic daal rice and roti. When I looked around after placing the order I realised there wasn't any food on any of the tables around. Even with a basic order we waited over 30 mins with nothing. When we asked the servers we were told there was some issue with the tandoor and they had to restart. Well proactive communication would have been helpful. People can modify their orders if they're informed of the situation. Anyway we got our food after 40 or 45 mins just to be served with slightly raw rice. The daal proportion was so little compared to the rice. We were so exhausted that we didn't want to inform about the rice and wait again. Later when the server specifically asked feedback we shared about the rice. She offered a dessert to make it up. While the gesture was nice the dessert itself wasn't. Overall food quality was disappointing. read more

This is a fancy sit-down Indian eatery with average flavoured food. They have spent on the interiors, nice looking furniture, pretty motifs on the walls, comfortable setting and spacious. The bathrooms are well maintained and the place is neat and clean. What could be the problem then? Well, the food itself. Seemingly they have misunderstood the primary reason people come is to eat a good meal, not just look at interiors. And my food sample size was large as we had a sizeable group of people, I tasted about ten different preparations, and just a couple of them are worth mentioning. One was the seekh kabab in the tandoori platter, another was the Navratan Korma, which was watery but still managed to retain flavour. The tandoori roti was very thin but is soft and I wouldn't complain about it. The Pani puri is atrocious, the cauliflower bites are gooey, and the fish smells weird. The brown gravy was the same across three different veg and non veg dishes, I think they believe people won't notice. The food portions are smaller compared to many other Indian restaurants in the same segment. In a large group of more than 15 persons, no one was happy we ate here and none of us plan to return to this below average food experience. There are much better options in the GTA to relish Indian food. read more

I was visiting from Washington DC and picked this place for dinner. You don't expect to go to a place and spend $150 dollar and $23 in tips and get such an horrible food. The young's girls were very attentive and fast to take orders. We ordered a bottle of wine for $52 and they just left the bottle and glasses on the table and did lot even pour. Same goes for water. The fish was double fried and over cooked. The daal did not taste right but the naan were good. The reason I am giving two star is cause the girls were fast to attend and nice. Not cause food was good. Hope owners do pay attention to this in future. God bless you and hope you can do better. read more

Flavourful! We didn't order much, the papri chaat, butter chicken and malai kofta with naan. They are all tasty and flavorful. The malai kofta has a great tasting gravy with potato dumplings, the dumplings have cardamom in it so it might be more of an acquired taste but I liked it. I will definitely be back to try the other dishes. read more

Really liked this place. Food and ambience were great. Was gently chastised by a skeptical waitress for ordering tandoori as a main course and advised to switch to a curry which I have to say was good advice. Only regret was not ordering more papadam. read more

I had never had Indian cuisine other than butter chicken until I met my husband. He grew up in London, England where 'curry' is a popular takeout choice. Needless to say, he is well versed in the vast variety of dishes in the Indian cuisine world. From bharta to biryani, from rogan josh to vindaloo, he has introduced me to so many delicious dishes, and our favourite place to explore all of these dishes and flavours is Urban Maharajas. Sometimes we'll order takeout, and they are very friendly and efficient in taking our order over the phone, and by the time we drive over to pick it up, everything is packaged up, hot and ready to go. Other times we'll dine in if we're in the area around dinner to lunchtime. As expected, the service is prompt, the food comes out quickly and it's always so so tasty. I'm hooked! read more

Finally an amazing organic Indian restaurant in Vaughan. I had lunch here. It was very good. The food was fresh and very tasty. Samosa was excellent. Rice was perfect. Service was good. Not the best but very friendly. Portions were good and I was very full from lunch. I highly recommend coming here if you are in the area. I hope this place does well. read more

This modern looking Indian restaurant is tucked away from the main street but easy enough to locate on a map and it's worth the minor effort to find it. The restaurant bills itself as the first North American Indian restaurant serving organic food which may account for the price point being a little higher than other Indian restaurants. We came for dinner on a Sunday night at 7 pm. A party of 8 was just wrapping up but the restaurant was otherwise empty which begs the question - why did we have to make a reservation for dinner when we called earlier to see if they were open? We ordered the veggie and beef samosas to start. I really loved the beef while my dining companions preferred the veggie (which I found to be heavy on potato). I found the tamarind sauce tasty but too watery. The mint sauce was good but also a little on the thin side. We ordered the assorted tandoori platter which comes with salad, chutney and papadum. The chutney was actually the same mint chutney that was served with the samosas. The salad was a small garden salad. Knowing that, we ordered the Kachumar salad which is a favorite of mine. The waitress brought the platter and seemed to forget the salad and the papadum until we reminded her so those came later in the meal. The Kachumar salad did not disappoint. It was fresh, light and tangy. I like a lot of spice so I would have preferred it spicier but I devoured it nevertheless. I would order it again. The platter was also excellent. A standout for us was the haryali tikka, a new dish for me - tender chicken marinated with yogurt, mint, fenugreek and green chilies grilled in a tandoor. It had a nice kick to it. If you're afraid of spice this dish is probably not for you. The chicken tikka, beef kebab and fish tikka were all delicious as well. Two orders of garlic naan later and we were stuffed and we still had leftover protein for home! I would have given the restaurant 4.5 stars if I could. The only drawbacks was the watery chutneys, the nice but slightly disconnected waitress that served us and the fact that for the price they could have given us three papadums instead of one to share as there were three of us. These are relatively minor complaints, I know. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and plan on returning to try the curries. read more

Came here for lunch on weekday around 1230. Believe this place is new, very modern interior. First thing i notice is that some items off the menus are organic and glueten free! We ordered beef samosa to start. Its good, but i did find it to missing some spices. Ordered the tandoori chicken (regular menu) and curry beef (off the lunch menu, choice of naan/roti/rice). We got one regular naan and choose to upgrade the other naan to garlic naan for extra $1. Tandoori chicken is very flavourful, and juicy meat! Curry beef is delicious! Perfect spices and tender meat! read more

Just came home after having dinner at Vaughan location. Worst customer service as only 2 servers were working and looking after more than 60 guests. Food came to the table after 50 minutes of order and that too was cold. Restaurant was busy but not enough staff to serve the guest. when asked about delay, server said people on the line are also short staffed. There was no hostess and only 2 servers doing all the job including bar serve, Cleaning , attending phones and serving foods., they both seems to be very tired and overwhelmed. The restaurant owner really needs to look in to it and to keep adequate staff to look after the guest and provide proper service. I will definitely think twice of going there again. Onion salad served was rotten. read more

Amazing Indian restaurant in Vaughan with a very nice modern decor. The service was excellent as the staff was very attentive. The food was fantastic and the presentation was quite nice. We shared all dishes which consisted of the veggie and beef samosas for appetizers and curry lamb and tandoori chicken for the mains. Will definitely go back again. read more

I really enjoy this place, especially since it's relatively new, so not crazy busy and they are trying hard to set a good impression. The setting is pleasant, the service is good and most importantly the food is tasty. Lots of options for most palettes. I like that they can adjust dishes to taste. Pricing is inline with other Indian restaurants in the area. I wish them success and look forward to returning. read more

I had this place bookmarked after seeing good reviews and finally had the chance to visit when I was in the area. This part of Vaughan is lacking in Indian restaurants so I thought this was a nice addition to the area. The restaurant is brand new with a very modern interior. They have a moderate amount of seating, and a separate party area upstairs. Among our party of 2, we ordered: 1. Maharajas Royal Platter, which according to their menu is "An assortment of chicken lollipop, haryali tikka, seekh kebab (beef) & tandoori prawns, served with salad, chutney & papadum" This platter was HUGE and probably a bit too much food but the good thing is we had plenty of leftovers to last the next few days! Overall, everything on the platter was nicely cooked with good flavours. Nothing was overly spicy, which I preferred, as we asked for medium spice. 2. Palak Paneer (Vegetarian) with Rice - With the curries you are able to choose rice, naan, or roti to accompany it. Again, we were able to customize the spice level and asked for medium. We were only able to have a few bites of this in the restaurant and had to pack the rest, as we were trying to finish the huge platter! 3. Desserts - Mixed Nut Kulfi and Mango Rasmalai. So even though we had to pack our main entrees, we still somehow had room for dessert. Both desserts were good and a nice ending to the meal! Overall, this is a nice choice if you are looking for Indian food and want a more 'upscale' ambiance in the Vaughan area! read more

Nice decor, clean and spacious dinning are, prompt service, generous portions, and last but not least tasty food! We had to wait for a while (30-40 mins) for our food to come out as we were a group of 8. But almost everything came out at the same time which we all appreciated. Naan breads were one of the best I have had! They did not skimp on meats in curry! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went here for Mother's Day lunch. There were 6 of us. The place is nice and clean. I like the set up and decor. We ordered the vegetarian platter and two plates of chaat papri for appetizers. It was a good portion size. The pakoras were burnt and we let the server know. She asked what we would like to do, and we said to replace them. For mains we ordered few dishes - a lamb curry, chicken saag, kachumber salad, malai kofta, yellow daal and palak paneer. We also ordered garlic and regular naan. The food was tasty. My sister did find a hair in her naan and told the server. They offered to make more but at that point, your appetite is gone. They took 10% off the total bill for that. One thing is their service is terrible. Takes forever for someone to come to your table and no one asks if you need anything or how is your food. The restaurant should do some customer service training. I won't come back for that reason. I don't need to wait 15 minutes in a restaurant for one thing. Especially knowing it's Mother's Day, you should be staffed accordingly. I also asked for olive oil on side for my salad and it was never brought out. These may seem like little things but I rather go to an establishment that has great customer service and great food. read more

Poor service. We went for lunch and waited quite a while for anyone to take our order. After waiting for a long time the server told us a large part of the menu is unavailable, so we had to order something else. We waited 20 more minutes to put our order in. The food took another 40+ minutes to come while the restaurant was virtually empty. Will never return. read more

Came for the first time today. Walking in the ambience of the restaurant was nice, it was well decorated. First table we were sat at had a horrible smell so we asked to move. Food was okay, nothing fantastic. Service was not good...the girl walked to us to take our order and then left multiple times. She just wasn't well mannered nor professional. The experience overall was mediocre not sure i'll be returning read more

The food was ok, quality and taste wise - nothing really out of the world specially compared to the variety and amply tasty Indian food available in GTA. However my complaint is about the QUALITY OF SERVICE ! We entered at about 10pm where the restaurant closes at 11pm, our hostess had no smile or happiness on her face to see a customer walk in, it was not a super busy night for them. We waited for about 10-15 mins for our order to be taken. However while taking our order at 10:15 and serving us the food at about 10:30, she never mentioned the fact that "Kitchen is closing, would you like to place any final orders". We needed extra breads with our curry and kept looking for her or any other hostesses, however the floor was empty. Each one of them were back in the kitchen and we waited for like 5-7 mins before she walks out with someone else's order to ask her for her help. Then she mentions the kitchen is already closed !! We asked her that you never mentioned or came out specially to tell us that "the kitchen is closing". It's not for the first time that we've eaten at a restaurant where kitchen was closing; usually the hosts are cautious of the fact that they make sure guests order everything they want. However after walking twice in and out of kitchen, she finally seems to have convinced the chef to bake us our breads !! The other best part was, that while guests are still completing their meals, instead of making sure they have their last orders, their bills and any other needs, the 3 hostesses start to wrap up the floor at 10:45 itself. One walks out with a mop, the other clearing the bar and other is clearing the tables. No one seemed to be interested in bringing the bill until I asked one of them that do I have to pay at the register? Not a great experience, given they call themselves as "Fine Dining" .. you can get better food anywhere, it's the experience and ambience that matters if you're charging at the rate of a fine dinning. Not sure if I'd recommend to any friends and family. read more

The food here is amazing! It may be a new favourite for me in the GTA. When we went it wasn't busy and service was great. Phenomenal food!!!!! Best restaurant in Vaughan! I have zero complaints about this restaurant; the food amazing, service was fast, and the ambience was on point. Finally, authentic and tasty Indian cuisine in Vaughan. Love the fact that most, if not all of the menu options are organic. Went here for dinner based on reviews and was a big letdown. Good ambiance and no spicy aromas in the dining area. Got paapri chat, Pani Puri, hariyali chicken for apps and lachcha whole wheat parantha x 4, chilli chicken for entree. The Pani Puri came with 6 golguppe which wasn't enough for 4 of us... So the Pani Puri filler was in excess. Pani wasn't as spicy as I yearned for. The chaat lacked the tangy zing. Now when asked how many pieces are there in hariyali tikka the waitress said 7-9 ($17.99) and for tandoori playyer, she said 7-9 ($32.99). Math didn't make sense , so we ordered hariyali. 15 mins later I saw a pic of tandoori platter on yelp and it's has 25+ pieces.WTF!! The waitresses really don't know the menu. The hariyali was god awful as the chicken isn't succulent juicy pieces of chicken but extremely dry and colored. The chilli chicken has a red chilli logo on the menu but it tasted sweet and sour. When the manager tried explaining why theirs doesn't taste spicy, I got ticked off and got into an argument. They cooked in yellow peppers ... Obviously it won't be spicy but on the sweeter side. They did offer to remake it but I said no as I was more than 50% done with my meal. They did not charge me for chilli chicken eventually but overall I did not enjoy the meal. And I did drive quite a bit on the 407 to get to this place. For drinks they did not have a lime soda which is quite staple in most Indian restaurants. C-. read more

My husband and I came here for some good authentic Indian cuisine but we were very disappointed with every dish. We ordered lamb curry, paneer dish, hot appetizer plate and butter chicken. The samosas had very little flavour and filled with only potatoes. Both butter chicken and lamb dishes were very over cooked and dry. I'm pretty sure I tasted MSG added somewhere in the sauce. The atmosphere is nice but thats pretty much all this place has going for it. Very unfortunate. read more

We held an event at Urban Maharaja's brand new upstairs party room and would absolutely do it again. The staff went above and beyond to help us make our event special. There was ample parking in the parking lot, the restaurant was clean, the upstairs party room easy to find, the staff responded well to our requests, there was lots of space for 40+ people in the room, the wait staff wore gloves while handling the food and the food itself was ample and well prepared and tasted delicious. The most surprising element was the Benihana (food is cooked on a large hot plate right in front of you) set up for appetizers. Very cool feature that sets this restaurant apart from the others. I would highly encourage you to contact Urban Maharaja for your next occasion. read more

4.5 out of 5 stars! I was really excited to try this place and came here for a family function of about 30 people so we shared various dishes: Appetizer platter - this was great! Tandoori fish - I liked it, a few family members said it was salty. Butter chicken - everyone liked it, just again with most Indian restaurants you only get a big bowl with 5 pieces of chicken and tons of sauce, which is where it lost that 1/2 star because I was expecting that to be different Lamb korma - delish Bhindis - delish Aloo gobi - delish Tarka daal - delish Rice - great as expected Naan - great as expected The servers were pleasant, the decor and atmosphere are nice, the menu selection is great, and we tried the Cheetah beer, which was nice. Overall, I liked it, would recommend it, and would come back! read more

Love this. Love how they package the take out orders. Favourite is the paneer! All their food is very authentic and delicious.

Had dinner on a Friday night with a few friend, good service and split 4 dishes, great food and almost like moms...

The food was pretty good here, they give you a good portion. It's a bit pricey but the dish comes with naan so if you think about it, it's the same as most places. I tried the butter chicken and chicken korma, I give it a thumbs up. They messed up our orders a bit and added spice my friends dish that wanted mild. Other than that it's worth a try for sure! read more

We decided to eat here when our regular Indian restaurant in Mississauga was closed. From the start our waitress looked like she'd rather be any other place in the world but there. She was the exact opposite of what you would want a waitress to be. I decided to order a martini since I saw it as an option on the menu but no one new how a martini is actually made.. 3 tries later after my friends had already finished their drinks they got it close to resembling a martini. The food came quickly and taste was great, we had the lamb vindaloo, chicken curry, lamb curry, samosas, and naan and rice! But in comparison to other restaurants it was very small portions of meat... very over priced. On top of that my mom found a hair in her food at the end of her meal... they handled it well and apologized taking the meal off of the bill. Concluding.. food tasted good but small portions, high priced, and bad service for the most part. Will not be coming back. read more
