Just over three years ago we purchased a chandelier from Urban Lights ("UL") at a cost of more than $3,000.00. Because of the size and weight, it cost an additional $1,200.00 to have the ceiling reinforced and hung. This piece is now over $4,000.00! Just one week from the three year anniversary of purchasing it, the chandelier just quit working! The manufacturer, Troy Lighting, simply said, essentially, Too Bad, you've only got a one year warranty. UL, however, stepped up and connected us with a specialist in the lighting repair and restoration field and determined it could be repaired!!! We began purchasing from UL nearly 20 years ago and, today, more than 85% of the fixed and non-fixed lighting, and at least 35% of accessories, in our home are from them. Because of their professionalism to not just helping the customer, but also taking a proactive approach to doing what is right, our future lighting and home decor needs will come from UL!! If you're with 'the Trade', and your trade discount is sacred to you, then NO, absolutely not. Buyer Beware. Worked up a large home package with a known designer in the area, who then parted ways with the client for that. The Designer let me know this when it happened, and I informed the homeowner I would not be able to honor those prices if she was not going through a 'trade entity'. Urban Lights took those trade #'s and sold it all directly to the homeowner for a matching price. Some places will protect that Trade discount, as is only right - this is not one of them, evidently. read more

We ordered a fandelier online, they shipped a completely wrong light (a very cheap looking one not even close to what we ordered) and when I returned it the young man at will call immediately raised his voice about it having been installed and that he had a problem with that. I said it hadn't been installed as I didn't know our general contractor had installed it as it wasn't installed when I saw it. I was upset but apologized for not knowing the light was installed. The young man remained rude and hateful, but at least he accepted the light back and reordered the correct light. The issue was fully caused by Urban lights sending the wrong light fixture but never apologized and made me feel like I was doing something wrong by returning it. Horrible customer service. While most of the inventory trends toward the high end, I did see some products that were similarly priced as Lamps Plus and the build quality appeared superior to Lamps Plus. I have shopped at urban lights for approximately 20 years or since they open, which ever is longer. During that time I have bought numerous indoor and outdoor lights and fans and all of them, including the very extensive landscape lighting. I purchased have been reliable and beautiful. In addition I also had universally positive experiences with all sales and customer service people who assisted me during the numerous times I have shopped there and needed replacement bulbs and things of that nature . In short, this is a very well run company with an extraordinary selection of all lighting and lamps to meet whatever needs you may have. The stellar customer service is a major plus since, as we all know, servicing a product can be a nightmare when customer service is deficient. The Poorest customer service from Jessica Bell. Avoid this shady sales person. Jessica sold me a floor demo from the Colorado Springs store, at full price, without telling me. I had to make a second trip from Boulder area to pick up the light, that was transferred from the Colorado Springs store clearance section no doubt. The light was dirty and dusty and looked damaged hanging out of a box that was too small for it, wrapped up in bubble wrap to disguise how dirty and damaged it was. There is absolutely no doubt the Denver showroom is spacious and "categorized so customers can find the styles you want" with an amazing amount of product. When you walk in a receptionist greets you. I read an article on David Nestor wanted customers to be greeted (check) and interact with throughout the showroom (no check). He said, " People still like a human being that greets them when they come in, tells them a little about what they're going to see, can page a salesman if they need one, someone they can wail on if they've had an unpleasant experience, but they've got somebody they can talk to at least" and this is where he has not met his goal. Good luck trying to get someone while you walk aimlessly around. If you are lucky to beg someone to wait on you, the salesman are very gracious and more than happy to help. So does David not have enough staff or not enough technology for the staff? Can he give his staff IPads or maybe the receptionist can log in customers similar to the Apple stores? What he has now just aint working. Why the 4 star because when you are able to get service, it is fantastic and I am telling you this store has an outrageous amount of incredible lights. I want to shout out to Eric Smith who helped us to get a light on Valentines Day (looks fab in our kitchen) and an even bigger thank you to Brooke Erkal! We saw a light on their website and wanted to snag it since we could not make it to the showroom. I called the receptionist, but she was unable to find a salesperson to help me. I called back an hour later and the receptionist apologized and said they are crazy busy. I think she heard the desperation in my voice and possibly tagged me as crazy (guilty as charged) and asked me to wait and see if she could find someone. In stepped Brooker, my super hero. The transaction itself took minutes and I believe they are packaging the fixture as I type. Went in with my sister since she needed new light fixtures. She was reading the Denver Post and noticed they had a 50% off everything sale this weekend. As soon as we entered the store, we were immediately greeted and told about the sale. We were able to look around without being attended by anyone which we liked. Once my sister was ready to ask questions about light fixtures she was assisted by Amber--she was very professional, friendly, helpful and efficient. First of all, we were impressed by the selection of modern fixtures. It's always so much better to see it live vs. buying online, which we've found to be risky for lighting! When we got there, everything was 40% off, which is an impressive deal. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and Amber helped us purchase our selection. She handled the transaction with care- ensuring we had enough wiring for 18 ft. ceiling vs. just assuming we knew! From there- she had great attention to detail, noticing some discrepancies in the specs vs. what the information sheet actually stated. She contacted the manufacturer to get the actual info, and kept us informed on shipping status. To round out a great experience, when the box didn't fit our car, she arranged a delivery right to our house. What a range of bad- good reviews. We went today and its a beautiful store. It did take some time to get helped but a terrific young lady (Madison) finally worked with us and she knew her stuff and was pleasant and fun. Within minutes she found the kind of design we sought and locked in a sale price for us to buy later.. Me and The Hubs went to Urban Lights recently to look for a ceiling fan/light for our master bedroom. In a nutshell, we found a great looking one. And it was in stock! And we went home with it that day! When we went in, there was someone at a reception desk who acknowledged us and asked what we were looking for. She suggested that we start by looking around to see if there was something we liked and pointed out where the sales desk was. So that's what we did. We found a few styles we liked and went to the desk. Rebecca was available right then to help us. She was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. She made some suggestions and I was happy that she agreed with my first choice as the best option! We haven't installed the fixture yet, but I'm confident that it will look fabulous. This place has a lot of really great looking light fixtures!. Now we're thinking about replacing the lights in our master bath! One thing leads to another... As a side note, if you plan to shop on the weekend, it might be prudent to make an appointment (also if you have a large project). We went to Urban Lights after a long day of driving all over town looking for a light to hang above our kitchen table. We were helped by Robin, and she was very respectful of our budget and really cared about what we wanted. She took us all over the showroom showing us different options and styles, as we didn't really have much of an idea as to what we wanted. I read a good number of reviews here and wanted to add my two cents. First the store is awesome. I have bought light fixtures, ceiling fans, and floor lamps here. They have a wide variety but tend to be a little bit expensive. As far as I am concerned it is the best lighting store in Denver However when it comes to customer service/sales staff, the company definitely needs improvement.it does not matter if the store is crowded or empty, the service is still mediocre at best. Once my wife and I tried for 20 minutes to find someone/anyone who could take an order to two ceiling fans that were on display. I saw a number of employees engaged in "talk story" (an Hawaiian expression meaning they were talking among themselves).We finally walked out without buying anything. As a licensed electrician, you would be absolutely amazed at the number of jobs I go on where urban lights completely failed to set them up with the right configurations of equipment to make their own products work. I walk back to a sales counter and they are busy go back to ask the receptionist to page someone for me I get told to go to the other sales counter and get passed around by two representatives who say they are busy right now. Don't ever get as-is furniture delivered by them. There were a couple of small marks on the table when we bought it, but nothing on the chairs. However, when they arrived, there were 5-10 gouges on each. Called and told them about it, and got the expected "we didn't do it" response. Very high tuition paid to relearn this lesson. read more

I've tried really hard to like this place. I have even purchased over $3,000 in light fixtures over the last year at this place. The showroom is a great resource but my overall experience with the staff has been extremely poor. I imagine they work off commissions so this surprises me. I have been ignored by staff who have helped me on previous sales. Overall I have been dismissed on more than one visit in the store. Most recently I picked a few pieces off their website I was interested in. They are all "special order" and none available in the showroom to view. In other words, if you order and it does not work you will pay a restocking fee. The reps provided no alternative to help. I am truly disappointed with my experience. I would not recommend this place unless you know exactly what you want to purchase and don't need any assistance from any of the staff. read more

Lighting is a major design element in one's home. It's more than just adding a lamp here or a ceiling fixture there. Therefore, walking into a place like Urban Lights without (1) having made an appointment and (2) being open to design help is simply a waste of your time and theirs. The staff at this store are lighting design pros; they know their business. (And, FYI, the markup on lighting is incredible. Know that going in. If you want to do this on the cheap, go to Home Depot or Walmart. That being said, there are good bargains to be had if you pay attention). My experience at UL has been terrific. I work with Robin O'Hare, a designer who is knowledgeable, creative, and loves working with lighting. A perfect combination for great customer service! The things you see in the store don't begin to represent all that is available. For example, a fixture I liked was shown in just one finish but was available in several other colors. I wouldn't have known this without Robin's knowledge of the inventory. Working with Urban Lights has been, and continues to be, an excellent experience for us. read more

Been here a couple times for lighting work. First time we went without an appointment and it felt a bit chaotic. I knew what designer I wanted to see so I was able to get the catalog but it was tough to flag down an associate cuz they all had appointments going. They have tons of examples for lights, fans, etc in their showroom but an even better selection of catalogs. Even though you don't need to make an appointment, I highly recommend you do. The associates know the brands and designers really well to help you out. They can also put together a document with your choices and ID numbers to revisit later. I also highly recommend you have an idea of what you want, whether it's a theme or a style for your room. The choices are infinite, and different brands have different prices. The website isn't the easiest to navigate but it's good when you want to look up something specific. read more
